KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 16:14 ” But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.”
The scriptures reveal this time that the spirit of the Lord left Saul and an evil spirit from God entered him. One may ask does God have evil spirits? No, God does not have evil spirit but may allow an evil spirit to take over a man’s life because of the individual unwillingness to repent. In the story of Job the Bible recorded in Job 1:16 “…the fire of God is fallen from heaven and has burnt up the sheep… “. These people speaking from their understanding said the fire of God had fallen to destroy the sheep. We know by the revelation of the scriptures that it was not God who brought that fire. What is consistent about God is that He is light and there is no darkness in Him. 1st John 1:5, James 1:17
Any child of God who walks in disobedience is walking in the flesh. Such a person has forfeited his place of abode, that is in the spirit. Romans 8:9 “But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit… “. To be in the flesh means you have no protection, guidance and support from the Spirit of God. Demons would easily take over such a person and torment you. Romans 8:6 ” To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
David was called to play the harp so King Saul could feel refreshed. Indeed, when David played the evil spirit left him. Once again, we realize that this spirit was a demon that had come to torment king Saul.
In chapter 17, we are introduced to the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines in which Goliath stood to challenge the Israelites to produce a champion to fight him. Goliath’s appearance was really formidable and frightening. Saul and his men were paralysed with fear. Saul was without the Holy Spirit so he could do nothing about the challenge of the enemy. Every Christian has the Holy Spirit dwelling in him or her. You are therefore equal or greater than every challenge Satan throws at you. All you need is to show up, and face the devil. When you get scared you have only locked up the mighty Holy Spirit inside you and He cannot do anything. Just face the situation in the name of the Lord and you would surely overcome the devil.
In 1st Samuel 17:25 King Saul who was supposed to lead the Jews to fight the enemy had rather placed a prize reward for anyone who defeats Goliath. He had shed off his duty. Dear leader without the Holy Spirit you are empty and will not be able to play your role effectively as you ought to. Keep your fellowship with Him.
Heavenly Father, I pray for all leaders to continually maintain a constant fellowship with the spirit.
1 Samuel 17:25. And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
