KEY SCRIPTURE: John 14:27 KJV” Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
It is popularly held by most people that if a thing or action makes you feel good then do it. This is the general view held by most people in this life. Our world now has the notion that if a thing, a condition, or an action makes you comfortable then, that is what you need. In this light, to them, comfort is being peaceful. Sadly, many people associate comfort with being at peace. In this light, the man who is facing difficulties with his wife seeks comfort in the arms of another woman. On many occasions, it is not only just one woman but a number of them. The same applies to those who find solace in various substances to feel comfortable. To some, it is alcohol, smoking, or some amusement from music or videos. All these things give people momentary pleasure. These days the LGBTQ craze is taking center stage in the lifestyle of certain communities. All these promise some comfort and so these people feel alright or suppose that they are peaceful.
The question is, is comfort or pleasure the same as being peaceful? The answer is a big no. Peace is a state of security within the soul that comes from only one source, that is, our right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Rom 5:1 KJV” Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: “I said peace comes from one source, Jesus, the prince of peace. Isaiah 9:6. This peace is a power that preserves the man who trusts in the Lord. It is called, the peace of God. Phi 4:6-7 KJV “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This kind of peace is a product of our faith or submission to God in the name of our Lord.
Now let me throw some light on the make-up of we humans. Man is a spirit who has a soul and lives within a body.1 Thess 5:23. His body is a house which should neither lead nor control him. Sadly, most men are ruled, and controlled by the body, which is demonstrated by the pleasurable appetite that rules them. When a man is ruled by his flesh he becomes an enemy of God. Rom 8:7 KJV “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Satan the arch enemy of God, as well as men, becomes the Lord of the man who has made the flesh his lord. There is no peace for such a person. They keep seeking true satisfaction in life, yet it keeps eluding them, because they search for, it in the wrong places. Rom 8:6 KJV” For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Now the irony of the thinking of such people is that they suggest that people who live by the Spirit and are ruled by God’s word are rather leading a very boring life. This is an unfortunate illusion of such people. Anyone living by the word is having a super life and feels like living on top of the world. If there is a Christian who sees his life as boring, then he has not tasted the life of the Spirit. He must repent and surrender his life to Jesus.
CONFESSIONS
I live a glorious life because I live by the word of God. I have the peace of God, which passes all understanding. It guards my heart and mind from all life stresses.
THOUGHT: LIFE IS ONLY MEANINGFUL WHEN IT IS LED BY THE SPIRIT
