KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 18:1” And it came to pass when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul”.
Please read 1st Samue 18:1-23
God brought David into a soul tie with Jonathan (Please note: Soul tie is a knitting of the souls of two individuals as a result of their associating with each other). This was a plan of God to help David escape some of the plans of his father against him.
David’s victory over Goliath also caused Saul to decide to keep David without going to his father. He stopped being a shepherd boy from that day. He had been anointed to be king over Israel and must begin going through a series of preparations to become a king. As children of God, our heavenly father may change certain life engagements, and we should not resist his dealings but rather be sensitive.
In 1st Samuel 18:5, the Bible says “And David went out wheresoever Saul sent him and behaved himself wisely, and Saul set him over the men of war and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants”. David cooperated with the Spirit to distinguish himself excellently.
The secret of his success was his intimate walk with God, which produced a great faith in God.
The Psalms written by David reveal the inner life and thoughts of David that caused him to excel. He said in Psalm 1:1-2 that” blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of God. In his law, he meditates day and night”. David was given to the word of God and the fear of God. This strengthened his faith so much. He was always exceptional. May we also place God’s word above every other view or persuasion. He behaved wisely always. Remember that true wisdom is always a function of obeying God’s word. Ps 111:10.
In 1st Samuel 18:7, the women of Israel decided to praise David over Saul for his achievement, and that started a new phase of life problems for David. Saul envied him and therefore persecuted him till he (Saul) died. The women did not act wrongly. This is the uniqueness of women. What men may take a month to say, a woman would take 5 minutes to say it!
David never blamed any woman for his woes. He faced all the difficulties that came his way by trusting God to see him through. Throughout the story of David, he was never overtaken with bitterness against anyone. He committed himself to God, who was able to deliver him. People normally complain and become very bitter about challenges because they are not prepared to trust God to see them through. We must all learn from the life of David. David established a very close relationship with the Lord, and so It was not difficult for him to trust the Lord in trying moments.
PRAYER
I pray for all those in trying situations. May they be strengthened to trust the Lord and act wisely in situations in Jesus’ name.
