KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 27:1 “And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand”.
Saul’s continual pursuit of David made him say that Saul would lay hold of him one day. He decided to leave the land of Israel and go to the Philistines to stay there. What did this decision imply? It meant he was giving himself over to the enemies of Israel. Despite these dangers, he went and was accepted by King Achish. (God will always make a way for those who trust Him.) Now take this thought of wisdom; whenever you are torn between two views, ask the following: Your present state offers no hope but destruction in view, and the second option has a fifty-fifty chance of survival, please choose the second option. In 2nd Kings 7, there were four lepers in Samaria who were torn between staying in Samaria and dying of hunger or going to the camp of the Assyrians, where they would either be killed or accepted and given some food to eat. They decided to take the second option and went forward only to see no enemy present but an abundance of food. If you find yourself in such a situation, choose the second option that has a fifty percent chance of survival rather than to remain in the old state and die.
Several people are living in conditions that are going nowhere. These people have lived in such conditions for years with no potential for a change, like the four lepers; if they continued to stay in Samaria, hunger and death were certain, yet going forward offers them either death or life. Dear brother or sister, what kind of condition do you find yourself in? Does your present state promise no positive change, and then you have to seek the counsel of the Spirit to know what to do?
Some young Africans who found themselves in supposedly such conditions chose to go to Europe through the desert. Most of them suffered and died. This is not what I am saying. It is a very big lie to think that there are no opportunities for growth and fulfilment in Africa. The truth is that there are more opportunities here than in Europe. Wherever needs and challenges abound, opportunities also abound. Start thinking outside the box, and you will see many opportunities to make a decent lifestyle and prosperity. Your choice must surely be instructed by the Spirit of God. In David’s story, the bible did not say he enquired of the LORD before going to the Philistine’s territory, yet I believe he did seek the counsel of the Spirit. If your present state offers no opportunities for growth and fulfilment, then start seeking the counsel of the Lord. Do not waste your days and life doing that one thing that brings no improvement or change to your life.
PRAYER
LORD, grant me the ability to know the best way for me to go and the courage to go that way.
