KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Sam 7:15 KJV” But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.”
A friend once asked, King Saul did not kill the king of Amalek and also kept the fattened animals, but God rejected him instantly. King David committed adultery and murder, yet God accepted him and even established an everlasting covenant of perpetual reign of his family line in Israel. Dear reader, let us understand that every man can fall in one way or the other. The question is, how much does one fear the Lord? King Saul’s offence might appear less serious than that of David, but the ultimate actions of Saul showed a man who was so egoistic and had no fear of God in any way. He consistently fought the will of God, in pursuing David to kill him. By this action, he was violently opposing God. God sees the depth of a man’s heart.
David committed adultery and murder, yet he humbly acknowledged his offence, repented, and never went that path any longer. Just consider the way he mourned King Saul and his family. On two occasions, he had the opportunity to kill Saul, but because of God’s word, he did not kill him. He did not directly fight in the war against the house of King Saul. David made sure he consulted God on every major decision of his life. David placed his absolute trust in the Lord. Psalms 20:7 KJV “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God”. Most of the Psalms were songs written by David to express his deep love and reverence for the Lord. David was described as pure as an angel. His great submission to God brought him amazing victories throughout his reign as king. All these set him up as a man of integrity. Let’s consider God’s testimony of David. 1 Kings 9:4 KJV” And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:”
I believe the Lord is making this statement to us also. That, if you would walk in integrity of heart, and in all uprightness, to do all that He the Lord has commanded in His word, to keep all His statutes and judgement. If you would do this, then your posterity or future lineage would enjoy the eternal mercies of God. God is faithful and the same yesterday, today, and forever. Ps 119:89, 90 says “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.” What He did for one He would do for all who honour His word.
CONFESSION
I thank you, my dear father, for your faithfulness to all generations. I live daily by your word, with a great reverence for you. I continually place my trust in you and my life. My seed after me is blessed as the Lord extends this blessing unto a thousand generations.
