TAKE HEED TO THYSELF.

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:16 KJV “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

In closing the chapter four apostle Paul advises Pastor Timothy to take care of his stability in the faith by taking heed to the teachings that have been given to him.If he does so, he would both save himself and those who listen to him. This statement presents two important facts.

1.If you fail to adhere to the truth and to order your ways by it, then you could be cast away at the last day. 1Co 9:27 KJV”, But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

2. If a minister teaches untruth or error, all his listeners will  end up in eternal destruction. It is extremely dangerous to be under a false pastor

In considering Apostle Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 9:27, every one of us should not take anything for granted. God is no respecter of persons. He responds to each person according to how we treat His word. During the ministering days of the Lord ,certain individuals informed him that his mother and siblings were looking for Him.

Just consider what he said. Luk 8:21 KJV” And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.”

To the Lord, those who do what He tells them, they are his true relations. We must therefore take heed to ourselves. This involves being disciplined to always do what it says. Some men of God are deceived by their titles and how men hail them. Please all these does not mean anything at all before God.If everyone praises you then you might be diverting from God’s path. The best way to judge yourself is to assess your life with the word.2Co 13:5 KJV” Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

The next aspect of the key scripture goes for the listeners of the message. Please consider carefully what comes out of the pulpit.Get to know the bible for yourself so that you can discern if your pastor teaches truth or error. One way to discover some of these erring preachers is that they never teach extensively from the bible. Most of their messages are moral advices and you may not find scriptural references in their presentations. They often teach certain strange doctrines which does not agree with the bible.Such preachers do not even read the bible on a regular basis. Dear one, if you are not given the truth, you would end up in eternal destruction. Sadly, certain congregation members have been hypnotised to the point that they are ready to defend everything their pastor does and says .I pray that every spirit of hypnotism be broken from your life in Jesus’ mighty name

God’s way to profit

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:15 KJV” Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”

In our last study we saw that to prosper from God’s point of view one must be totally given to God’s word.God’s prosperity comes from Him and it happens as one yields his whole being to Him.The book of the Psalms begins with how God blesses His children.

It says blessed is the man  who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of God.And in His law  does he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that yields its fruit in its season. It leaves shall not wither, AND WHATSOEVER HE DOES SHALL PROSPER

The scripture says as he meditates in the scripture day and night, he becomes like a tree planted by the rivers of water.God’s word  is like  streams of water to our spirits and souls.Your blessings are according to the state of your spirit.Pro 18:14 KJV” The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?”

Please note that success in God’s view is about a lifestyle totally given to the ideals of God.This imparts to that man the wisdom of God.Jas 3:17 KJV “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

When a man has learnt and abode  in the ways of God, he receives God’s presence and helps that  makes him bring answers to what human ability can not answer. This was what caused Joseph’s excellence in Egypt, Daniel’s uniqueness in Babylon and the great victories of David. It is that supernatural aura around  a man bringing timeless solutions to hard questions among men that brings your uniqueness among others. This will not be possible if the man is half yielded to God and compromises with the world in a number of issues.

The Lord Jesus was excellent and outstanding among men because He brought answers  to various issues of men.In whatever field of endeavour that you are God would bring His ability to uphold you as you refuse to live like the world  but to honour God and His word.It is very possible to prosper in God’s way. This is the reason Proverbs 23:4 cautions us not to labour to be rich, for when a man is consumed with a crave for money he would surrender to all forms of carnal pressures.

God’s way to profit

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:15 KJV” Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”

As the new year has just begun or set into motion, many are asking how do I profit in all my endeavours? I believe our key scripture rightly nails it. The word to profit also means to succeed. So please let us humbly follow what the Lord has for us in this study.

My first point for us  is that God’s way to success is very different from the world’s way. Just consider one statement from God’s word which contradicts man’s ways. Pro 23:4 KJV” Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.” This is God’s counsel, and it clearly does not agree with the way men view things. Now this is why.” For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 55:8. To prosper God’s way, let us go to Him and learn his way. God’s way of blessing or prospering us is not from outside to within, but it always begins from within, then it shows forth outside. Let’s  consider this order as revealed in one popular verse. 3Jn 1:2 KJV “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. “

In the above verse, we see that our prosperity and good health are all according to or after the prosperity of our souls. Our world system is dominated by the devil and his cohorts, and so  you can not dominate them by your natural senses. Your spirit, which is united with the Spirit of Christ, is superior to satan and his demons, so when your spirit takes the ascendancy, you would indeed be free in your body and finances. Our key scripture tells us to meditate on the word, give ourselves totally to it, or do as it says, then we would prosper, or the effect of the word would be clearly seen in our lives by all. This is God’s way of making us successful in life.

Proverbs 4:20-22, it teaches us to attend to His word and incline  our ears to what he says. We must not allow it to depart from our eyes and keep it in the midst of our hearts, for they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.’Life’ is always the seed for performance and achievement. God’s word is not just sounds carrying ideas and instructions, but they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63. God’s word is a person. Rev 19:13 KJV ” And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.” This person is Jesus. Meditating on the word and yielding your entire being to the word is infusing His personality into your life, as relating to what the scriptures say.

IMPARTATION IS REAL 2

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:14 KJV” Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”

Throughout the scriptures, we see God use men to play His role in the lives of other men. The truth is that God created men to partner with Him in administering His rule, works , and ways on the earth.

I am making reference in particular to imparting gifts and callings that God institutes through men. Num 27:18 KJV” And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;” Through the laying of Moses hands, the grace to lead the  people of God was imparted to Joshua. The word impart means to give over, or to share. It implies that what God has blessed  one with , that is, a grace or an ability, he could share with another person. The mystery is that there is no reduction or  diminishing of that  grace when shared with others. When Moses shared his Spirit with the seventy other men, he did not reduce or lose any part of the grace that he functioned in. This reveals that grace does not come from him; he is only a vessel or conduit through which the spirit of God passes to the other individual. Rom 11:29 KJV” For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” God does not take away the gifts, nor does he reduce their operations in a man.

It always takes faith in God’s word to receive an impartation of the gift. Whenever an anointed man or woman of God prays for you, please know and believe that the spirit has been imparted to you. Some people receive the manifestation instantly whiles others manifest after a later time. In all cases, believe you have received the gift.

On certain occasions, it seems one has lost the operation of a particular gift or might notice a reduction in its use. It is not God who reduces the level of functioning of a particular gift, but man is always the cause . It may be due to sin in the life of that person; as  a result, he can not exercise faith to use that gift. It may also be as a result of lack of use through idleness in that person, so  it has become dormant. This is why the scripture advices that the gift be stirred up.2Ti 1:6 KJV” Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”.some also lose the full operation of the gifts because they believe or accept that they have lost the gift and so they can not exercise faith to operate in these gifts.

How does one stir up a gift that seems to have been lost?

1.If you find yourself living any life of sin , please repent and allow the joy of the Holy Spirit to fill you one more time. The Spirit functions effectively in an atmosphere of joy. Isa 12:3 KJV” Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.”

2 Stir the gifts through prayer in tongues or otherwise  by devoting some good time to prayer. it. One edifies and  charges himself up as  a battery is charged when he or she prays in the Holy Spirit.

3 .Please throw away the lie that says , ” You have lost that gift, or God has withdrawn the gift. Believe it is there, and trust God to manifest it through you.

4 Lastly, you can allow one with knowledge and the anointing to pray for you by laying His hands on you again. This time, it is not to impart the gift but to stir your faith to the point of operating in the gift again.

IMPARTATION IS REAL

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:14 KJV Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.:

A friend once asked how can a man of God can claim he is going to impart spiritual gifts to others. Our key scripture says that as the leaders of the church laid hands on him, they imparted a spiritual gift to him. The verse did not state the type of spiritual gifts, yet it is clearly stated that he had a spiritual gift. This explains the truth that although we are all children of God, there are some who God has placed in a position to dispense blessings. The scriptures describe some men as being over us. Heb 13:17 KJV« Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Apostle Paul spoke of imparting some spiritual gifts to the brethren in Rome. Rom 1:11 KJV” For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;” Such men are described as gifts to the church. The church must cherish such men. Many times, such men are custodians of the mysteries of God. 1Corinth 4:1 KJV” Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.” As the scripture rightly said, they must also be faithful. They must live according to God’s acceptable standards. Some misinterpret the following scripture, Galatians 3:28 KJV: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” They claim we are all the same on all fronts. This is not what scripture teaches.

The scripture claims we are all one in Christ, yet this oneness refers to the common salvation that is the same for all of us. In our functions and roles, we are not the same. This does not make anyone superior to another yet, because of roles we must acknowledge whose role makes them ‘rulers’ and as a result are endowed with special graces that naturally place them higher, who can give this grace to those down in the form of impartation.

1Tim 5:17 KJV “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. In this verse, the Holy Spirit teaches the church to express double honour to men who rule or lead the children of God very well. It emphasises that those who specifically labour or minister in the word as well. By this study, I wish to establish that although we are one through our common salvation, our roles differ, which places some higher, and the church needs to acknowledge such servants of God and honour them as such.

THOUGHT: WE ARE THE SAME IN OUR COMMON SALVATION, BUT DIFFER IN OUR ROLES.

FRESH OPPORTUNITY

KEY SCRIPTURE:2Co 6:1 KJV” We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.”

Praise the Lord for bringing us into a new year. This is a fresh opportunity to do more and go higher. There are a few thoughts we have to consider and then take action on them. Coming into a new year gives us the privilege to reflect on our experiences, achievements, and perhaps failures from the past year. The results of each should spur us on to greater heights.

We ought to ask ourselves why am I here. We are here as co-workers with God in bringing to pass His agenda for men or humanity. We are continuing with the work our Lord started.  John 20:21 KJV” Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”  If we are to continue with what he started, then we have what He had. We have His power at work in us. If we’re on a mission like this, then what kind of people are we to be? Understand that you have His power to reach out to be light to another man.

Your life is only meaningful if you do what he has asked you to do. Now, note that whatever you find yourself in, you must give your best in every way possible. Bless men with whatever you do. Do it with all your heart. This is God in you reaching out to bless men.  Every evil that hurts fellow men is the enemy using your hands to inflict pain on others. Once again, your life is meaningful if it meets a need in the life of fellow men. True satisfaction is obtained from making others happy. Do not work for money, work to satisfy the needs of others, and money will never leave you.  Men would bless you when they receive the best from you. Make your life very meaningful by blessing humanity with the love of God in your heart. Have a great year in 2026

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:13 KJV “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”

We now consider the last of the acts that the apostle Paul instructed Timothy to keep observing until he comes. We must also take such advice seriously. He advised him to pay attention to doctrine. A doctrine is a set of core beliefs, principles, or teachings officially taught or advocated by a group, religion, political party, or institution, serving as a foundation for understanding and action. Doctrines are the basic tenets of our faith, and we must be firmly grounded in these truths.

The bible said the early believers continued in the apostles’ doctrine. Act 2:42 KJV” And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Now, please note that these cults that go around seeking to win people win certain ignorant Christians because they are not very knowledgeable  in the Christian doctrines. There are a lot of church folks who are confused about the doctrine of the Trinity. Some even ask, ” How can Jesus be God? Many Christians have left their churches for Jehovah’s Witnesses because they had no good teaching on the topic.

Some have converted to become Muslims because they were taught that Muslims have a simpler form of  burial procedure. This is all because they have not been taught to know that Christians and Muslims are not worshipping the same God. All these are a result of a lack of good doctrinal teaching. There are those who have joined the Seventh-day Adventists because they claim it is an error to worship on Sundays. These things are very unfortunate. The pastor ought to be well-informed about proper Christian doctrines.

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that salvation is not by grace alone but by observing some good works, including joining the Kingdom Hall meetings and propagating the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ doctrines. The scriptures clearly taught that we are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves; it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2: 8, 9. If one joins such a cult to accept their doctrine, then he has definitely thrown away the grace of God. Such a one is lost in his sins.

Give attention to Exhortation.

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:13 KJV” Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”

Apostle Paul instructed Timothy to give attention to reading , exhortation , and doctrines. Today, we consider his instruction to keep exhorting  the brothers. The word exhortation is the Greek word paraklesis, which is basically two words joined together. These words are para ,which means near and kalio, which means to call. It means to call nearer, of which we have the following synonyms: exhortation, admonition , consolation, entreaty(preach,) comfort  and many others. It is to strengthen the believers as the pastor preaches to them. The scriptures remind us that the righteous have many afflictions, but the Lord delivers them out of them all. Ps 34:19. In the light of this, the Child of God ought to be encouraged and. Strengthened.

The child of God is described as a sheep in the midst of wolves. To encourage the brethren is most necessary. The scriptures are loaded with words of assurance and comfort in the form of promises. The flock dearly needs to know such promises. Just consider the following  scripture, Isaiah 43:2″ When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” This is an amazing piece of promise. It is very comforting indeed. It assures us of his continual presence with us. He assures us further that no trouble would destroy us, although the trial may be very grievous. This places the child of God in a state of rest. He knows that no matter the gravity of the challenge, it will never destroy him. This is very comforting.

Another meaning  of the word exhortation is to entreat or to preach. Preaching is to communicate information by entertaining your listeners. During preaching, one does not explain issues a lot but may emphasise specific points by appealing to the heart of the listeners to positively yield to what is being said. 2Ti 4:2 KJV Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. Every pastor must know when he is preaching or teaching. Preaching may warn the brethren about certain acts that may be strictly avoided. Preaching normally appeals to the mind and the emotions.

Give attention to reading.

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:13 KJV “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”

It is said that all good leaders are readers. Leading  is all about influencing others to go a particular direction. The leader must be very knowledgeable  to be able to guide their followers rightly. Every one  of us came into this life empty-headed. Whatever we know today came through various forms of learning. One way that places others ahead of the people is a deliberate attempt or discipline of reading.

Apostle Paul instructed Timothy to give attention to reading. What was he supposed to be reading? The best material for a pastor is the bible. He must read it  consistently, prayerfully, and reverentially. He must consciously read every portion of the bible. A good knowledge of the bible makes interpretation of the bible easier. The challenge certain ministers are facing is the error in interpreting the bible. This has led them to actions that are very wrong. For example, if a pastor  says members would not be served communion until they have paid their tithe. This is an error. I   believe such teaching comes from the experience between Abraham and the Priest of God, Melchizedek. After he had given one tenth of all he obtained, the priest gave him wine and bread. ( Gen 14:18-20)This practice is not in  agreement with any other portion of scripture. The communion is a ‘form’  of the Passover meal, which marks God’s deliverance for all of His people and can not be tied to the paying of tithes.s. This error proceeds from a lack of broad knowledge and subsequent application of the scriptures.

Besides the Bible, the pastor must read broadly yet be very cautious about certain materials. He should be careful about these New Age writers whose materials are extensively  motivational. The spirit behind these kinds of authors is the spirit of the antichrist. They make references to the bible as the good book and would never make any reference to the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Besides such authors, there are many  highly inspired authors whose writings would greatly bless you. Please give attention to reading such books.

In this age of information technology, most of these  books have their audio forms, which could be read to you from any communicative material, like your phone or laptop. Just set up a time schedule to listen to the reading of these books. A good program to go through, listening to the reading of these books, would do so much good for you. The main challenge of listening to such materials read to you is that your attention could easily be captured by other engagements that would either make you miss parts of what is read or lose the  order of presentation of the information. It would be very advisable to give your whole attention to certain specified time periods. You can set aside one hour each day to listen to the books undividedly. You can even make notes as you listen to replay parts that are of more interest.t.

Be an example of purity.

KEY SCRIPTURE:1Ti 4:12 KJV” Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

Today, we look at the last, but not the least, of the virtues that apostle Paul instructed Timothy to distinguish  himself, so he would be an example unto the believers. Purity is a life devoid of  the works of the flesh. Purity is primarily the state of the mind, that is, when one maintains spiritual mindedness. The mind is the main target of the devil in every aspect of the Christian life. Satan and his demons seek to create or build a stronghold in the minds of the children of God. A stronghold in practical experience is a cave in a mountain. This cave could become a hiding place for certain people or even wild animals.

When the enemy succeeds in planting a wrong thought, image or idea in the mind of an individual, it becomes a hiding place for a demon personality to hide there. Impurity always creates a hiding place for defiling spirits to stay in such people.

When a brother entertains thoughts of immorality, envy, greed ,  pride or any of the works of the flesh. These things defile the believers. The pastor must not in any way give in to these things. Please note that no one would notice if you give way to any impure thoughts, yet the results of it would soon be demonstrated in his life.

How can a pastor stay free from all kinds of impure ways? You must acknowledge your oneness with Jesus. 1Co 6:17 KJV”, But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” The nature of sin is not in you. ( Rom 6:6) Tell yourself I am one with Christ and so ,I can not give way to anything impure. Tell yourself every wrong thought or desire is alien to you, and therefore it is from outside. The devil succeeds by making people do these things because they accept these thoughts as their own thoughts. Dear Child of God, no wrong thought comes from you. They are always  external influences trying to take hold of you, so refuse. Dear pastor or child of God, stand your ground against anything impure.

Please know that your authority as a Christian is linked to your purity. Heb 1:8 KJV” But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”  Now the sceptre is the symbol of the authority of any kingdom, and that is our purity. The challenge of impurity is that, if the pastor lives an impure life, he will produce church members who are like him. Choose to keep yourself pure.
