HYPOCRISY

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 7:3 KJV “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”

HYPOCRISY is the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case. The Lord now talked to His audience about not being hypocrites. Hypocrites see all the negatives about others, complain so much about how they are not living right, and sees nothing wrong with themselves. The Lord said whiles you see and complain about the mote in your neighbour’s eye, what do you do about the beam in yours? A mote is like a straw, a chaff or better still a particle of wood. A beam is extremely bigger, the whole wood itself. Man is a fallen being. Our righteousness is like a filthy rag. Isa 64:6 KJV “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness’s are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” As a man with so much deficiencies how do you overlook them to see what is wrong with your neighbour?

IT is an act of serious hypocrisy to see the errors in others and forget about your inconsistencies. To those of us who have encountered the mercy of God, never judge anyone. We acknowledge it is purely an act of God’s mercy that has made us who and what we are. The scriptures states in 2 Cor 10:12, that we are not wise if we compare ourselves with each other. What is our Lord saying in all these things? The lord is asking us not to use our words to destroy others, but to build them up. When they brought the woman, who was caught in adultery to Jesus, He asked the one who had no ‘sin, to cast the first stone. They all left without casting any stone at her. Jesus spoke to her as follows. Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more. (John 8:3-11)

Jesus discourse in this portion of scripture is an emphasis on the potency of words. Negative words can destroy absolutely. They can kill, depress, break homes, yet every wrong word defiles you the giver first before the receiver of those words. (Mark 7:21-23) Decide that you would use your tongue to encourage, heal, and bless. Refuse to give negative comments about others. Make these things as a matter of policy that you hold. If you maintain this approach to life, the power of God would always have a means of expression through you. The power of God thrives in hearts of love, compassion, and one’s readiness to reveal the nature of God. Ephesians 2:10 According this scripture, we are God’s workmanship to do good woks. You were designed to do only good things. The good and kind words you speak to and about others, initiates this ability in you.

CONFESSION

My tongue is God’s instrument of blessing and lifting. I do not speak evil of others, neither do I compare myself to anyone. It is my policy to see the gem in others and help them discover it.

FURTHER STUDIES

Mark 7:21-23 KJV” For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

John 8:11 KJV” She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

JUDGE NOT

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 7:1 KJV” Judge not, that ye be not judged.”

Mathew in his recording reported what we have as our key scripture, yet in Luke’s account, he added a few statements from the Lord. Luke 6:37 KJV ” Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven”: These are statements that are meant to keep us living at peace with our neighbours’ Lord said men will always give to us or do to us what we do to them. Luke 6:31 KJV “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise”. If you smile to people, they would likewise smile to you. If you frown at others, they would also frown at you. These things function on the principle of sowing and reaping. You always reap what you sow, but you reap more than you sow. The Lord instructed them, that for their own happiness, they should not judge, condemn and not keep offenses.

What does it mean to judge? Judging is to convict or conclude a matter on an individual. If someone tells lies, and you state to him “you are a liar” This is a judgment on the character of that person. You could have said, “you have been lying” The second statement is a statement of fact and not a judgement. If you add the following, “since you are a liar, nothing good would come out of you” The additional statement is a condemnation. You have moved from judging to condemning. Just consider the impact of such words on your neighbour. This is what the Lord said we must not do. It is not your business to judge anyone. At our law courts the state has appointed special individuals which are approved by God according to Romans 13:1. They have the right to fully access people’s actions make judgements, and also condemn them, if found guilty. By the principle of sowing and reaping others would judge and condemn you. These things create hurts, bitterness and so much confusion in homes and in relationships. Most people are constantly living at war with others because of the wrong ways we use our tongues’ 4:6 KJV” Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

In Luke’s account he spoke about not forgiving others their offenses. Failure to forgive hurts you, and not the one you hold the grudge against.  Secondly if you don’t forgive those who offend you, others would also not forgive you. When people don’t forgive, they may go to any length to hurt you also. These things create lots of pain among relations. If we are to adhere to what the master is teaching, there will be so much peace in our homes and with our associations.

In the light of all that have been said above decide to show kindness, love, and be very fair to all persons in your words and generally well disposed towards all persons. You would receive a better response from them.

CONFESSION

I do not judge, condemn, nor keep anyone one’s offenses against me. My words are always seasoned with salt bringing peace and cordiality with all persons. I rather forgive them.

FURTHER STUDIES

Luke 6:37 KJV Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Philippians 4:5 KJV” Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”

SEEK FIRST

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:33 KJV” But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The Lord Jesus gives a major step that would answer the problems of being anxious about various issues in life. He said, seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these things, shall be added unto you. The Lord Jesus said if anyone would come after him must first deny himself take up his cross daily and follow him. Matthew 16:24. When a man prioritizes his personal longings before God, then he becomes an easy prey for Satan. Just listen to what Satan told God about how men reacts when their lives are attacked.

Job 2:4 KJV” And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. Satan says a man living for himself is too vulnerable. At the least difficulty, he would be ready to attack even God. The Lord’s counsel to seek first His kingdom and its righteousness frees him from the weakness of his flesh.

The Lord revealed that when a man chooses to go after God and His reign over his life first, all the physical and material needs are also added to him. The man who makes the law of God his delight is like a tree planted by the rivers of water that yields its fruit in its season, it leaves shall not wither and whatsoever he does shall prosper. (psalm 1:2-3). This is the cardinal truth of scripture, and has proven to be practically true over and over again. To seek first the kingdom of God is to go after the will of God for your life. It also includes doing all those things that honours God. Get yourself committed to serving God in His house. Number one service you can offer God is to be involved in winning the lost for Christ. Dedicate your life to helping new believers stand strong in Christ. Give of your life to the service of God in any capacity that will make you useful in the house of God.

You must also commit your life to living in righteousness. Put every deceitful act absolutely from your life. 2 Corinth 4:2). Sin is a reproach to any people, yet righteousness would definitely promote and exalt you. Prov 14:34 Dear child of God free yourself from the deceptions of the life. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and every other thing would also follow after you

CONFESSION

I have chosen to seek first the rule of God over my life, in all that I do. I forsake all hidden things of dishonesty to walk uprightly. God blesses me with all that I need.

2 Corinth 4:2 KJV” But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

GOD, THE CARETAKER

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:26 KJV Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Our key scripture states clearly that God is a care taker. The birds of the air do not engage in any form of food production yet God always feeds them. God takes over that responsibility. 1Peter 5:7 KJV” Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. “We must cast every care unto him. The challenge of most people is the courage to leave the issues of life in God’s hands. For example, how does one leave the threat of COVID attack to God, especially people at the front-line workers. Those who relate with a number of people are in a constant threat of it. There are other pressing issues that may seem to drawn the joys of people. Dear child of God no matter the gravity of the problem, the word of God must be placed above the problem, if you are to be free from whatever threats it may pose. The scriptures give specific actions to be exercised in the moments of difficulty or challenge. DO NOT ALLOW WHAT MEN TALK ABOUT A PARTICULAR CHALLENGE, MAKE IT LOOK BIGGER THAN GOD.

Let’s have a look at some of God’s responses to some of the challenge we may be facing

1 Philippines 4:6 KJV “Be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” He says we should be anxious for nothing and make our request known to God with Thanksgiving. Thanking God means we are assured of his positive intervention. We must apply ourselves to the instruction as God has given to us. Our reaction to challenges must be that ‘ I will not worry, because that is what God has asked me to do. ‘

2 James 1:2 KJV” count it all joy when you fall into divers’ temptations;” The second instruction is to count it all joy when you face diverse challenges. Please note that, it is doing what the scriptures say that brings about answers. Once again, say to yourself, I will count it all joy” Start singing and thanking God for victory.

3 1Peter 5:7 KJV” “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”. Our third point is to leave the care with God. Say it.’ Lord I leave this challenge in your mighty hands’

HOW practical can this be? The word of God can be of benefit to us when we mix it with faith. Heb 4:2. Please decide to act on the word of God always. This will establish your roots firmly in the word, and would make you able to trust Him in trying moments.

Learn to say to yourself and various situations that, you would not be anxious about difficult moments, saying that, you give over the problem to God, moves our emotions into that direction. Our words control how we respond and behave in all situations (James 3:2). Maintain your grounds that God is in charge of the situation and you would not worry about it. Please note that God always work miracles when we trust Him

PRAYER

Thank you, Lord, that you are far greater than, any challenge of men. I leave all my cares in your care. You are my care taker. I Rejoice and praise your name for victory. Amen

Matthew 10:29-31 KJV” Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

DO NOT WORRY

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:25 KJV Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

We are living in times that many people are really worried about their life. COVID 19 has cast a big question to all mankind. People are wondering, would they be the next to be attacked? Others are in doubt about the safety of their children and relations. The Lord tells us not to be worried about our lives. Worry will not change anything, rather, it would complicate matters instead. Mat 6:27 KJV “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” People also get worried about other matters in life. The Lord said all these anxieties are because of lack of faith. Matt 6:30. In the absence of faith worry turn to become fear. Fear has torment (1 John 4:18). It is dangerous to get into these things. Fear will always make you vulnerable to the very thing you are afraid of. Job said the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me. Job 3:25.

Fearing for your life is very, very dangerous.

IF it is about the COVID-19, observe the protocols, yet build your faith in God. This is a more potent way to secure your life. The Lord Jesus established that all things are possible to him that believe in Him. Mark 9:23. You can’t trust in His word and be disappointed. It is not possible. Romans 10:11 KJV “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” This statement is binding on God to honour. God’s words are eternal laws established in heaven, ready to be fulfilled in the life of anyone who believes in it. (Psalm 119:89,90). All these anxieties and fears proceed from a lack of faith. Get your faith built up. Rom 10:17 shows us how to get faith.

Romans 10:17 KJV “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. “Feed on the word of God. Listen to faith building messages.

To really help yourself, stop watching and reading about all the negative things, and listen rather to faith building messages. You would hear about the mighty power of God that heals and protects. The following verse is one of the certain assurances God gives to us. Isa 43:2 KJV “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Feed your heart and mind on such undeniable assurances like this. He said His word will always accomplish what that word says, in the life of those who believe it. (Isaiah 55:11)

CONFESSION

Thy word O God have I kept in my heart, that I would not be worried or afraid. My God is mighty and gracious. I have His assurance and I’m at peace.

WHO IS YOUR MASTER, GOD OR MAMMON?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:24 KJV “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

The Lord Jesus reveals that mammon, is a very potent competitor for the hearts of men against the place of God. Mammon is wealth or riches. In its simplest form it could be represented by money. Money is a modern-day idol to many people including the rich and the poor. The scriptures say, 1Timothy 6:10 KJV “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Money is a legal tender for transacting goods and services. Almost everything we use, receive has money as the medium for it to be possible. This has made money very important and more visible than even God who we don’t see and physically encounter in most of our activities. The clear visibility of money has made it to occupy a very important place in the hearts of many. Actually, it has taken God’s place in many lives. This is what the Lord Jesus tried to correct. (Money in itself is not in evil)

WHO is your master? Is mammon your master or the Lord Jesus? You may claim Jesus is your master, yet how much are you prepared to serve God with your money? How truthful are you when it comes to financial matters?  What do you do when you are torn between helping the needy as against keeping your money?

According to the scriptures and by experience, anything that takes God’s place in our lives ensnares us. (Deutronomy 7:25) As the scripture says anyone whose heart has been dominated by greed or lust, for money traps himself or pierces himself with many sorrows.

IF JESUS is Lord of your lives you would use money to serve Him. The Lord said unto the same audience   in Matt 6:33, that if men would first seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness every other blessing shall be added unto them. Making the Lord Jesus, master will definitely mean being faithful to all financial matters, including tithes and offerings. Mal 3:8 & 9. You may indeed escape the curse of a thief. (Zechariah 5:3&4) Money will not dictate to you, rather you will rule over money. The man ruled by Jesus is not covetous as seen in the following scripture.

Eze 33:31 KJV “And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth, they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.”

Please note, riches are never evil, but it becomes an   error when it dictates your affairs against the word and way of God. God indeed takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children who favours his righteous course. (PS 35:27) Desire for riches with the sole aim to establish the kingdom of God in the lives of many.

CONFESSION

God has blessed me in every way. I favour the spread of the gospel and the transformation of lives. Money never rules me. I relate to money in the light of my love for Christ.

FURTHER STUDIES

Psalms 35:27 KJV” Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” Zechariah 5:3 KJV” Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall is cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.”

THE LIGHT IN YOU

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:22 KJV” The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light”.

The Lord says the eye is the light of the body. If the eye is sound, then the whole body is full of light. Our world, because of the sun, is bright with light, during the day time. The ability for our body to benefit from this bright light is for our eyes to be good. The Lord said further in the next verse that, Mat 6:23 ” But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! He also added that if the eye is bad then the whole body shall be full of darkness. After these two physical analyses He explained that if the light in you, or your eye in you is darkness, then you would be in a terrible darkness. According to the Lord Jesus, we have two kinds of eyes.

1.Our outer eyes

2.Our inner eyes. (the eyes of our heart)

Our outer eyes see the outer world yet our inner eyes have to do with, how much one relates with God and His ways. It also determines whether Satan or devils rule that individual. Rom 1:21 KJV” Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. “This scripture shows how and why some people BLIND their inner eyes. If you oppose an obvious truth you destroy the eye of your heart. The result is very vile actions and sinful ways. (please read Rom 1:18-28). The so-called elite world has taken a very deplorable path into all kinds of sinful ways, because they have rejected the truth about God’s greatness and revelation of Himself.

HOW can a man receive healing to his blinded heart? If you would humble yourself to God’s word and receive it, every blindness would be healed and light would flood your soul. There are some Christians who have some levels of darkness within them. Some are as a result of a hardened heart towards the truth, and others are as a result of lack of ignorance (Hosea 4:6). 1John 1:6 KJV” If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk-in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” Weakness of every kind in our lives is a sign of some level of darkness. Is it bad temper resulting in bitter actions, is it immorality or some kind of demonic control? The way out is repentance and accept the truth. Joh 8:32 KJV” And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Go for the light of scripture and destroy every blindness in you.

CONFESSION

My heart is flooded with light and so my life is liberated from all wrong ways. Satan has no part in me. I rather dominate every evil way. Thank God I am more than a conqueror

WHERE IS YOUR TREASURE?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:19 KJV “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal”:

The Lord in His teaching on the. Mount tells His audience not to lay up treasures on this earth, but to lay it up in heaven.

Men are always torn between the natural and the spiritual. Life is fundamentally spiritual and must be approached that way. The call from the Lord Jesus to lay up treasures in Heaven is the total expectation of all who have accepted to follow Christ. The fundamental meaning of this statement is to walk by faith and not by sight. God our Father would one day judge and reward us for whatever we did in this world. 2Corinth 5:10 KJV” For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad”. There is going to be a day of accountability, so make sure you live to please God always.

What is our treasure?  Our treasure is anything that is of utmost importance to us. To lay up your treasure in heaven is to use all those things that are most dear to us, to serve the course of Christ. One of this treasurable resource is our time. Consciously use your time to serve the Lord. Another important resource is our money. Many will rather keep their money for so called personal use, and give the leftovers to God. This is a big error. Let God have the best of your money. Our strength is another treasurable resource that we have. We can use it purely to serve our purposes on this earth, or use our strength to foster the kingdom of God. The Lord added that on this earth there is always a power of decay. The Lord referred to moth, rust and thieves that can break into whatever you establish in the flesh. This also means everything done in this flesh has an expiry date. It is also destructible. Anything done for the glory of God will last forever (Rev 14:13)

The Lord added that, where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. What does the location of our hearts as a result of our treasure mean? It is the determinant whether we live at peace with ourselves on this earth or not. Everything in this life according to the Lord is subject to decay. Since our hearts go into where our treasure is, the power of decay attacks the heart that is located in the treasures we deposit on this earth. How miserable are the souls of millions of men and women whose treasure is in this world? They may not openly admit it yet, no one who has his treasure in this world is genuinely at peace. Get this point very clearly, to lay up treasures in heaven is to live for Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can satisfy the longings of your soul. If you are not living a life of peace, then you are only living for yourself. Turn your life over to Jesus now, for a true life of peace.

CONFESSION

Thank you, Lord Jesus. I lay up my treasures in heaven. I am therefore at peace with myself. My heart cannot be attacked by the moth, rust and robbers of this life.

JESUS’ MODEL PRAYER

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:9 KJV “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

(Pls Read Matt 6:9-13)

Our Lord Jesus gave His disciples a model prayer in our above passage. He said after this manner or form should ye pray. We would consider each statement and then take our lessons from it.

HE said in verse 9 that we address God as our father in heaven. This means, God is our Father who is above everything or challenge. If He is above all then he is worthy of our praise, worship and able to meet every need.

1.Pray by worshipping and praising Him, declaring He is above all.

HE went on to say that they pray that the kingdom of God should come and the will of God be done. The kingdom of God is the rule of God over our lives. This demands the submission of our will to His.

2. In prayer, tell the Lord you submit your will to His will, reign and authority

HE then said, they ask for their daily bread

3.Ask for various needs to be met

The Lord told them to ask for the forgiveness of their sins as they forgive others

4.Pray that you forgive all who have offended you,

as God for Christ Jesus sake, has forgiven you all your sins (Eph 4:32)

The Lord then talked about asking the father to lead us in the path of life and deliverance from evil.

5. Submit your life to the leading of the Spirit of God and pray claiming exemption from all evil works of darkness and deal with all satanic works against your life. (James 4:7)

6. Give honour praise and glory unto the Lord

These six points can be a standard way to pray, taken from the model prayer the Lord taught His disciples.

PRAYER

Thank you, Lord, for teaching us how to pray. By your prayer I give glory and praise to my father who is greater and mightier than all. I receive answers to my requests because I pray according to His will and also believe in Him as well.

JESUS’ CORRECTIONS ON PRAYER

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:5 KJV And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

(PLEASE read Matt 6:5-8)

The Lord Jesus on His teaching on the mount, also talked about the right ways to pray. The following is a highlight on some principles that He talked about.

Verse 5: Prayer is not for public show

Verse 6. Prayer is purely MAN communicating with God. When men treat prayer this way, God answers, and all will see it.

Verse 7 Pray in faith.

Verse 8 Be assured of God’s omniscience and omnipotence

The Lord addressed the errors that the Pharisees used to commit. He also talked to those who would be sons of God and to rightly relate with God must Know and avoid. Prayer is a serious business and must not be used to win the praises of men. Prayer would lose its essence if approached that

way. Some people have also taught that, because of what Jesus said about praying in your closed doors, one cannot pray in the open. This is a misunderstanding of the scripture. The Lord Jesus prayed publicly at the tomb of Lazarus. The import of His teaching is to avoid attracting the praises of men, because of your praying.

The Lord also talked about not using vain repetition in prayer. This is an example of how they did it. He says O God, and repeats it about four to five times. He says O God, O God, O God, O God. He makes a request for his school fees. He repeats, O God, my school fees. This person keeps repeating this for about five to eight times. The Lord calls it vain or empty repetition. Do not pray this way. Praying this way kills every faith in you, and cannot brink any answers to you.

Prayer is strong when you pray on the basis of the word of God. Always know what the Bible says and make your request on that grounds. The following is what he has said about answered prayer. Mar 11:24 KJV “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” This is the prayer of faith. This is the eternal word of God that is forever settled in heaven and God’s faithfulness is from generation to generation. Psalm 119:89,90

The Lord also said, the father knows your request even before you asked Him. God is all knowing and He is all powerful. Believe in Him and be ever confident in Him. Although He knows your request before you ask, asking fulfills His principle that says man must always ask God before He steps into man’s case.

CONFESSION

I do not pray to attract any man’s attention. I pray to receive answers to bring glory to God. I do not repeat words in my prayers but rather I pray on the basis of God’s word, and He always answers me.
