DEEPENING OUR WALK WITH THE LORD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 1:16 “To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood. “

Apostle Paul said that after the encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, he did not seek any human influence but went into Arabia (solitude). He went to Arabia, which was very close to Damascus, precisely in the southern part of it. It was after three years that he went to see Peter in Jerusalem. Through that isolation to stay in God’s presence, he had a deeper knowledge of God and the truth about Jesus. Our present social media age robs many of that quality time to know God because most people have been taken over by the attention to their phones.

In the Acts’ account, which was recorded by Luke, he talked about the blindness that fell on Paul and also about Ananias, one of the Lord’s disciples, who was sent by the Lord to pray for him. His eyes were opened, and he received the Holy Spirit. There is no conflict between these two reports. It is the case of what the Holy Spirit wanted to communicate at each instant. Why did Paul have to stay in Arabia and Damascus for three years before coming to the brethren in Jerusalem? He needed to know the Lord who had commissioned him more deeply. It was in his solitude that he received most of the revelations. No wonder he came back to challenge the Jewish teachers.

Paul ‘s devotion and confining himself to seek the face of the master allowed him to receive such mighty revelations. Some of the revelations were so deep that Apostle Peter had to admit that some of the things taught by Paul were hard to understand, and those who do not understand and are unstable wrestle with the message as they do with the other scriptures. (2nd Pet 3:16).

Paul’s personal commitment to the Lord Jesus exposed him to these wonderful truths. Many are converted but do not have any personal relationship with the Lord. Dear child of God, the Christian life is a revelation of Jesus through you. How can he be revealed through you if you don’t know him? It must be your number one ambition to know him on a very personal level. Jesus said I am the vine, and ye are the branches; abide in me, so that you will bear much fruit.” (John 15:5) Develop a deep personal devotional time with Him. Keep all destruction of the phone, TV, and others out. The more you relate to him, the more useful you will be to him.

There are many people whom we win through personal evangelism, and we need to disciple them to become workers for God. We have to pray, teach, and encourage them to develop a personal relationship with the master. So long as they know Jesus personally, they will remain fruitful. Please take this working definition of a disciple: One becomes a disciple when he becomes stabilized in the faith, and has an ongoing commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ, and has developed the basic disciplines of Christian living and services, so that the lifelong maturing process is guaranteed as much as humanly possible. This could be achieved through a discipleship program.

PRAYER.

I pray for all Christians to develop a strong desire to be acquainted with our master, Jesus. That they would not be carried away by the present wind of entertainment through social media, but would give quality time to seek the face of the Lord.

ENCOUNTERING GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Acts 9:4 “And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me.”

Various persons who are saved encountered God in a special way. Some through hearing the preaching of the gospel. Others may even be watching the great dedication of another Christian brother. The following is how Apostle Paul, who used to be called Saul, encountered Jesus.

Saul had received letters from the Sanhedrin (High Priest) in Jerusalem to go to Damascus and arrest any Christian he found. Saul, by nature, commits his total abilities to whatever he does. In considering his aggressive approach to which Paul does his activities, we would categorise him as of a choleric temperament. A temperament is an individual’s emotional disposition or behavioural trait that dictates how one responds to life situations.

Paul is a goal-oriented individual who would kick away anything that stands in his way of getting that anticipated goal. This behavioural trait was seen throughout his life.

The bible said in Acts 9:2 that as he and his entourage got to Damascus, a light from heaven hit him to the ground. He describes this in Acts 26:13 as follows:” At mid-day, oh king, I saw in the way a light from the heavens above the brightness of the sun, shinning round about me and them which journeyed with me.” Through this encounter, Saul’s course of life was changed.

Through a physical encounter with Jesus, Paul, though a rugged persecutor of the Christian church, became a Christian, defending the very faith he tried to destroy. God has various ways of encountering men with his good news to bring about a change in their lives.

There are over a million and one ways of conversion. The method or process of conversion may not be so important as the result and impact of your conversion. Apostle Paul said in Galatians 1:16 that he was saved so that God would reveal his Son in him that he might preach him among the heathen, immediately he conferred not with flesh and blood.

He meant he did not allow any human influence to get in his way. There was a drastic turnaround in his life. What is the result of your conversion into Christ?  Can men testify to a change in your life? Has Jesus Christ indeed become the Lord of your life? Are you still controlled by the past or former habits? Apostle Paul said he conferred not with flesh and blood. He spent a total of three years in Arabia and Damascus, receiving revelations from the master. His devotion to the master helped him to know a lot from the Lord, which made him very effective. Deepen your relationship with the master to increase your *usefulness unto him

  PRAYER

Father, I pray for all children of God, especially leaders of the flock, to deepen their devotion unto God so they can be more effective.

NO CHRISTIAN IS EVIL

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

I believe many would quickly ask, How can you say no Christian is Evil. Some can easily point out people they know very well who are very diabolical and mischievous. Some may even be supposed men of God who actually practice evil. I do not object to any of these. Indeed, many call themselves Christians, but are never one. Rom 2:29 KJV” But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” This scripture properly refers to the Christian.

It describes the man who pays lip service to being a Christian, yet he is not so at heart. The Lord talked about the last day when he would tell those who claimed Jesus was their Lord, yet kept doing evil, that He never knew them.

In this study, I am talking about those who sincerely believe in Jesus as their Lord, yet they find themselves doing wrong. Such people may see themselves as sinners or evil people. I wish to say that, from the teachings of the scriptures, such people are not evil, but have not understood the teachings of the word. They have also not learnt how to appropriate the revelations of scripture for a victorious life. Christians have a substituted life. Every Christian has exchanged his or her life or nature for that of Jesus. 2Co 5:21 KJV “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” I would add another verse to strengthen my first point. Col 1:21 KJV “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled” The word reconcile in this verse does not only mean to join together but to change thoroughly by putting away the barrier, that is the evil nature He added in the following verse that we Col 1:22 KJV In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Through the Lord’s sacrifice he took away the old nature of sin, giving us his nature, which makes us holy, unreproveable and unblameable.

You cannot have this glorious, holy nature and be evil. It is your responsibility to acknowledge that you are holy, unblameable, and unreproveable. This nature is what Christ exchanged with our sinful, evil nature. If sin is knocking on your door, tell yourself, your new nature is holy, unblameable, and unreproveable, and so you do not do such things. If you fail to acknowledge that you have a new nature that is pure like Jesus, then you will easily submit to sins’ requests. If you consider yourself evil because of your slips and faults, then you can never lead a victorious life. Maintain a consciousness of true holiness and uprightness. If you are a Christian, then you are like Jesus, and so stop seeing yourself as an evil person.

THOUGHT:  À RIGHTEOUS CONSCIOUS CHRISTIAN IS ALWAYS VICTORIOUS, BUT A SIN-CONSCIOUS ONE IS ALWAYS WEAK.

CHRISTIANS: PEOPLE OF THE COVENANT

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 3:6 NHEB “who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

In our previous study, we learnt that the Christian is in covenant with God. How do we live with our covenant with the Father? Abraham came from a very strong idolatrous background and understood covenant responsibilities and significance. These were people who could sacrifice their children for the gods. With this background, he related to God so successfully. God said He had to tell Abraham what He plans to do. Gen 18:17 KJV” And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do? This is a result of the oneness between them, as a result of the covenant. When the Lord asked Abraham to sacrifice his precious son Isaac, whom he had waited for so many years to obtain. Abraham never hesitated at all. He hurriedly obeyed, although the Lord intervened to prevent him from killing the boy.

As a result of Abraham’s absolute obedience to that covenant relation, God made him the heir of the earth. Rom 4:13 KJV “For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” A good acknowledgement of our covenant relationship with God would totally revolutionise whatever we do unto the Lord. It would affect our love for God, our faith in the Lord, our service unto the Lord, and our general outlook about life.

As we studied in our previous study, the Christian is in a covenant relationship with their heavenly father. The terms of this relationship are that we might live to glorify God in all we do. We glorify Him through living upright lives, winning souls, and bearing fruits of answered prayer. John 15:7-8.The father’s role in this covenant is to handle every care of ours and to protect, preserve us completely. Our food must be to bring more fruit to him. Just listen to the master; John 15:16 KJV “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” To be a strong participant in God’s covenant is to be actively involved in bearing fruit in all the areas I talked about. Failure to bear fruit is a breach of the terms of the covenant. The Lord says, the Father would take away that branch or person from the vine John 15:2

THOUGHT: A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR COVENANT WITH GOD WILL SURELY INFLUENCE THE OUTPUT OF OUR WALK WITH HIM.

WHO IS A CHRISTIAN-10?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Heb 8:6 KJV “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”

God is a God of covenants. Covenants are agreements between two or more parties, in which the agreement joins the two or more parties as one person, making them all joint owners of whatever each party has. In case of a breach of the agreement, the offender may incur curses. Since creation, our Father God has entered into covenants with various people. After the flood, the Lord made a covenant with Noah and all living beings that He would no longer destroy the earth with rain. Gen 9:11 KJV” And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth.” He said He would cause the rainbow to appear in the skies as a token of the covenant, signaling to us that He would not destroy the earth any longer with floods. The Lord also made a covenant with Abraham. Gen 17:10 KJV “This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.”

Just as God’s covenant with Abraham was the circumcision of their flesh, so was the covenant he made with us through our Lord Jesus was the circumcision of our old man. Col 2:11 KJV “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:” It is said that we are the product of the covenant between our Lord Jesus and our heavenly father.  This should not be the case, since we were in Christ and we are identified with him in all that He did. Whatever the Lord Jesus did, we did it with Him. God’s covenant with the Christian is the circumcision of his heart. Rom 2:29 KJV “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God”. Dear child of God, through this spiritual circumcision, you are in a covenant with the Lord.

What is the significance of this covenant? Covenants make the parties one. The enemy of your covenanted becomes your enemy. Our enemies become God’s enemies. Your possession becomes the possession of your covenanted. Our terms of the covenant are to keep bearing fruit unto our father. His part is to take care of everything that concerns us. John 15:8 KJV” Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” We must abide in Him so that we bear much fruit. The struggles of most Christians is that they are focused on their cares and as a result have become unfruitful. Fruitfulness involves everything that brings glory to God. By understanding our covenant relationship with the Father, we ought to be more confident in him and commit ourselves to doing that which brings glory to His name. Amen.

CONFESSION

I am a Covenant child of God through my identification with Jesus Christ. I bear more fruit for the Father, bringing glory to His name. He cares for me and provides all that I need.

CHRISTIANITY: A BIOLOGICAL MIRACLE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Christianity is a biological miracle. In Christ, ordinary mortals receive a heavenly, supernatural life which supplants the natural life they received from their parents. The word “born again” means to be born from above or from a higher place. (John 3:3,)

Dear child of God, this is not just a view we carry but a real biological miracle.  Apostle Paul put it this way in Galatians 2:20 as follows” I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

This is the experience of every Christian. It is the life of Jesus that is living and pulsating through our flesh. This became possible because Jesus died in our place so He could release His life for us.

The Lord Jesus is the life indeed. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says, “therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold EVERYTHING has become new”. There is a new life in every Christian. This is a mystery and a real wonder.

Apostle Paul speaks of this life in Colossians 1:27 as follows: “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”. Christ is the life of the Christian. He gave His life for us and presently lives in us. What can defeat you? The Christian is Christ in one. “. Christ means the anointed one. When we say Jesus the Christ, we are only saying Jesus the anointed one. By virtue of the Christ in you, you have also become the anointed one.

The Lord Jesus died to make His life available to every man who would believe in Him.

Dear child of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, you are a supernatural being. Do everything with this understanding, and you would never be found wanting.

Victory in life is all about allowing Jesus to act through you. You can’t fall into temptation if you allow Jesus to face all the trials that may come your way. Whatever task you have to do must be done with the consciousness that it is Christ who is doing that task through you.

CONFESSION

Christ is my life. What a miracle. By Him, all things are possible with me. I have God’s divine nature, and I am an associate of the God kind, because Jesus gave His life for me. The forces of destruction in this life cannot defeat me. Thank you, Jesus.

UNDERSTANDING GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 7:18. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. [I have the intention and urge to do what is right, but no power to carry it out.]

Our key scripture portrays the experience of many. All that the Bible describes here is the nature of sin. There are a lot of people who do not like the wrong things they keep doing. They desire to do what is right and good, yet the sinful things keep repeating themselves in them. How can such an individual be free? The answer is in receiving a nature of righteousness.

Righteousness is a nature that God gives to any man who would surrender his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. To surrender to the Lordship of Jesus is to give over the rule and control of your life to Him. He comes into your life as a king, and everything He is and has is established or given to you.   Jesus is perfect righteousness. When He becomes Lord of your life, He gives you that perfect righteousness. [[Rom 5:17/ISV]] For if, through one man, death ruled because of that man’s offense, how much more will those who receive such overflowing grace and the gift of righteousness rule in life because of one man, Jesus the Messiah! This gift of righteousness through our Lord Jesus would make you rule in this life. Sin makes slaves out of men, no matter your social status. Don’t be deceived by your affluence, so long as sin controls you in any form, you are a slave, and death is the reward it pays you.

You would be free from the nature of sin when you surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. Just consider the following scripture. 2Co 5:21 ISV “God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that God’s righteousness would be produced in us”. Please note that when you give your life to Jesus, God gives you the very righteousness of Jesus. This righteous state means your past life of sin and failures no longer exist. No wrong thing of your past has any reference to you before God the Father. You have a perfect, faultless standing before God our Father

By your new righteous nature, you can now do that which is right. Doing right is just your very nature. All these are possible by making Jesus the Lord of your life. How can you make Jesus Lord of your life? Let’s consider the following scriptures. Romans 10:9 & 10

“Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and, in your heart, believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation”.

CONFESSION.

Jesus, I confess wholeheartedly that you are the Lord of my life. I believe you rose up triumphantly from the grave. Thank you for saving my soul.

THE CHRISTIAN IS SAVED BY GRACE

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 2:8-9 ” For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”.

One of the truths that sparked off the reformation of the church in the Dark Ages is the statement of Ephesians 2:8-9. “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourself: it is the gift of God, Not of works, lest any man should boast”.

Martin Luther, who came to the understanding of this truth, wrote a lot on it. He was ultimately martyred because of it. Many have directly or indirectly taught that one needs to do certain things in addition to believing in Christ to be saved. The scripture added that it is not of works, lest any should boast”. The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that it is not enough to claim that salvation is by grace alone. One must do certain tasks as prescribed by the Watch Tower Society for one’s salvation to be complete. They argue that to claim you have believed in Jesus is not enough.

I think all this confusion has resulted from people’s lack of appreciation of what this salvation entails. One is not saved because they join a church or start carrying the bible around. Salvation is a supernatural birth that takes place in the heart of an individual through believing in Jesus and declaring Him as Lord. (John 1:12, 13, Rom 10:9&10). This birth makes him or her a child of God, just like Jesus Christ. No work or action, or deed, can cause this to be. Jesus called it being born from above. John 3:3, This is a divine work, and it is only by grace, that is God’s doing, that can result in this supernatural birth.

Christians are not just people who have changed their lifestyle, but it is first and foremost an encounter with the Spirit of God that causes a regeneration deep down in your heart. 2nd Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new”.

It is the effect and the results of salvation that show in a changed lifestyle and also good works. Anyone who attempts to add good works to the work of salvation is erring. Good works is the result of salvation, and this difference should be made clear.

 CONFESSION

I have been saved by grace through faith, and it is never through any works that I did. I have received God’s supernatural nature, making me a child of His, and now I manifest his lifestyle in all I do.

THOUGHT: SALVATION IS A SUPERNATURAL EXPERIENCE RESULTING IN A TRANSFORMED LIFESTYLE

Romans 10:9-10” That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation”.

John 3:3” Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.

WHO IS A CHRISTIAN 9?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Mat 28:19 KJV” Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

The Christian is God’s mouthpiece on the earth. In times of old, God spoke to humanity through the prophets. Heb 1:1 KJV” God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,” After the era of the prophets, He spoke to mankind by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things. Heb 1:2 KJV “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” The Lord said to the first disciples that as the Father sent Him, so has he sent them. Joh 17:18 KJV “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” We are the mouthpiece of God on the earth. The Christian must know God has sent him with God’s word to go and make disciples of all nations. The following verse shows the great need to heed the call to go and tell the world. Rom 10:14 KJV “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” You are that preacher.

Our world lies in the power of darkness. Gal 1:4 KJV” Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:” Our commission is just the same as He gave apostle Paul. Act 26:18 KJV” To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

Apostle Paul said he was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.

We must also not be disobedient to our call to go and make disciples of all men.

Every Christian is a mouthpiece of God in our world. If you shut your mouth, then the world cannot know or hear what God has for them. On many occasions, the world is very hostile to the preaching of God’s word

This is so because the power of darkness that has held them bound is the same one that makes God’s word very irritating to them. Some of them can become very aggressive and repulsive  but just know that this attitude comes from the evil one, but as you stay a little persistent in prayer against these evil entities, they will soon give up, and these people will be free. God’s word is alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword. Just make sure your vessel or your body is kept Holy and boldly share the truth to the world. God would work with His word in the hearts of this people, and they would surely yield to the master.

PRAYER

O Father, touch my lips, and make it a source of your fire anytime I speak, that men would hear you and turn away from darkness unto your light

FURTHER STUDIES

1Th 2:13 KJV “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

Mat 28:20 KJV” Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

WHO IS A CHRISTIAN 8?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Rom 3:22 KJV” Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:”

We have established in our previous study that God’s righteousness is not an initiation by man but a gift of God that gives us a head start in righteousness.  According to Rom 5:17, this gift of righteousness, coupled with a reception of an abundance of grace, makes us reign in life. Please note that the strength of the enemy is the separation of the people of God from Him. Righteousness takes care of every barrier between us and our Father God. Righteousness gives us a perfect standing before the Father.  Our perfect standing before our heavenly father grounds our absolute triumph over the enemy. It is therefore the grand scheme of the devil and his cohorts to move the children if God to act against God, to break that right standing with the Father.

Dear child, if God’s righteousness is a gift always employed by faith. When you sin, you have broken fellowship with the Father, and so you must admit your sin, confess it, and receive the Lord’s forgiveness. Meanwhile, your gift of righteousness is not affected, but your repentance from that wrong way takes away the broken fellowship and makes your righteous standing fully effective once again. One thing that the child of God must be very cautious about is staying away from sin. Devils assume authority over the Christian when he or she sins. If the Christian sins, it means he has yielded to promptings or instructions from the enemy. Remember the scripture that says to whom you yield yourself to obey, his servant you become. Rom 6:16. This is the reason devils keep whispering, stirring, suggesting, and scheming in every way possible to make the child of God sin.

Dear child of God, please note that it is very important for you to maintain your righteous consciousness always. One way to do this is to meditate on the truth of your righteousness. Joshua 1:8 teaches us how it is done. It says this book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein, or mutter it or say it to yourself at a low tone, day and night. That thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and have good success. Take time to mutter the scripture over and over again, till your spirit is saturated with that truth. You may repeat the following: I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You may repeat this for about two weeks and see what happens to you.

CONFESSION

I am the righteousness of God. I walk upright by God’s righteousness in me. I have a right standing before God because of my righteousness. Thank you, Lord.
