WHAT CONTROLS YOU?

KEY SCRIPTURE 2 Samuel 3:14” And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul’s son, saying, deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines “

In chapter 3, the Bible spoke about the six sons of David. Each one had his own mother. In the key scripture, David requests that Michal be taken from her present husband and given to him. When he requested Michal, he meant he was going for wife number seven. David loved lots of women. Can you believe that when Abner came to him to assist him in reigning over the whole of Israel, David said, he should put that aside and then bring Michal to him as. wife, before the issue of the throne, could be discussed. Because of a woman, this reign, which nearly cost his life, was to be on hold. This was an area the devil was going to use to attack him and his kingdom. From the accounts of scripture, it does not appear he realized the love for many women was a problem and could seriously affect him. Why did David never become aware of this shortcoming? We learnt from his life that David always enquired of the Lord before taking any major step. Marrying a woman or a man is a very major step, and he should have enquired from the Spirit of the Lord before embarking on such a thing. There was no account from the scriptures that he sought the face of God before embarking on this venture.

Dear child of God, is there any area of your life that the Lord has no control over? Has the light of God not permeated some aspect of your life? Satan will only capitalize on that dark area of your life to pull you down. Make sure the Lord has perfect control over every aspect of your life.

The scripture teaches that Satan is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Satan cannot lay hands on everybody. He always seeks one who has bowed to his ways. They are the people he can devour. Those who are yielded to the Lord are outside his radar or sphere of influence. Satan is not so powerful. Whoever he manages to subdue has sadly permitted him to do so. This is a very hard truth, but that is exactly how it is. This is the reason the Holy Spirit says that, if you want to be free from Satan’s grip, you must first submit to God. This means refuse every agreement or yieldedness that you have given to Satan. Then and only then can you successfully resist the devil for him to flee. (James 4:7)

  PRAYER

I pray that all children of God would always surrender fully to the Lord. Always making him first, the enemy would never have an advantage over them.

WHEN GOD STEPS INTO YOUR MATTER 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2Sa 3:18 KJV Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.”

In our key scripture, Abner, who had stood along with King Saul to pursue David, came to the elders of Israel, telling them what God had said about David. He acknowledged that God had said that, by the hands of David, He would deliver Israel from the hands of the Philistines. He had known this all this while, yet they pursued David to kill him. Even after the death of King Saul, he kept resisting David from ascending the throne, but when God’s time was up, this same man came to the elders of Israel and explained to them that David should be made King. Dear brother or sister, do not give up on whatever God has said to you. Hab 2:3 KJV” For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” If God said it, then it would come to pass. The prophet Habakkuk says, thou it tarries, wait for it.

To wait means to keep trusting God’s word and doing everything in anticipation of the fulfilment of that promise. Heb 6:12 KJV “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” The Lord described how certain people inherited the promise. He said these people received the promises through their faith and patience they inherited the promise. Dear one, the truth is that God never fails in doing His part of the matter. It is always our part to keep acting

CONFESSION

God is faithful. He would never deny himself. He honours whatever he has promised. I will always do my part by trusting and obeying His word.

WHEN GOD STEPS INTO YOUR MATTER

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2Sa 3:10 KJV “To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba”

The scriptures testified that the house of David and Saul had a long, unending war, although the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker, yet David’s house grew stronger and stronger. The main individual who stood between David and the ultimate throne over the whole of Israel was Abner, who was King Saul’s General.

It so happened that Ishbosheth, one of Saul’s sons accused Abner that he had gone into his father’s concubine.2Sa 3:7 KJV “And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father’s concubine?” Abner did not take kindly to this accusation. He got infuriated and instantly decided to break faith with the house of Saul to allow David to ascend the throne as king over the whole of Israel. Beloved reader, this turn of events was the doing of the Lord. God had finally stepped into the long delay of David’s ascension to the throne. He orchestrated the whole event, making Saul’s son accuse Abner, and thus the corresponding reaction from Abner

Dear reader, please bear in mind that David was anointed as King as a teenager. It took a period over a decade before the major hindrances were to be taken out of his way.Satan did everything possible to make sure this word spoken by God would not come to pass.Dear one the only thing that can hinder God’s word is unbelieve.Unbelieve may show its head as sin in the life of the individual or a refusal to mix God’s promises with faith.Heb 4:2 KJV “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it”.So long as you believe in the promise of God and keep acting in obedience to His word.

David was certain about the promise of God.He never attempted to help God in bringing to pass this promise.Remember that he did not kill Saul when he had the opportunity. He even did not fight in the battle between the house of Saul.David believed God  and so was at rest.Heb 4:3 KJV” For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world”.Faith is always the action that allows God to step into our conditions.God has promised that Satan has risen to challenge  God’s word, but it is your faith  that would settle the issues in your favour.

CONFESSION

Thank you, Father, for your fsithfulness. You always watch over your words to perform it.Lord, I am fully at rest because you have stepped into my case, and the battle is ended.

CONCUBINAGE

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2Sa 3:7 KJV “And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father’s concubine?

Concubinage is the act of cohabiting with a woman who is not your wife. This practice was very predominant under the old covenant. A number of the Patriarchs had concubines, and the scriptures never spoke against it. These days, many people, both Christians and non-Christians, argue that it is not wrong to keep a concubine. Surprisingly, this term is not mentioned even once in the New Testament. In spite of the fact that this is not mentioned in the New Testament, they claim it is right for us to practice it in this time, giving so many reasons. Some say the difference between the number of women to men is so huge that men should marry more women. Some also claim that since one woman cannot fully satisfy the sexual needs of a man, which can lead to prostate complications, it would be right for a man to have concubines.

People state these things because they do not understand the word of God as well as the power of God. During my write-up on polygamy, I explained that the bible is a progressive revelation of God’s dealings with men. I said that at the beginning of creation incest, that is a brother marrying his sister, was not an offence. At a point in time (Abraham and Sarah), the Lord told the Israelites that incest was a sin. Concubinage was a norm during the Old Testament era, yet in the New Testament, the scriptures have continually stated that a man should have one wife. Let’s see what the bible says about extramarital sexual activities. Heb 13:4 KJV: Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” The Holy Spirit taught that marriage is honourable to all, and the marriage bed or the only place God has allowed for sex to be practiced in the marital home. He went further to say that God would judge whoremongers and adulterers. Who is a whoremonger? Those who have multiple sexual partners. Adulterers are those who sleep with anyone outside their marital home.

Now, to those who try to give all kinds of reasons for practising these things, they do not know of the power of God. Please note that a Christian is never an ordinary man. He is a supernatural man who does not have the ordinary limitations of men. John 3:8 KJV “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” The Christian is born of the Spirit, thus, he is supernatural. His life force is the very spirit of Jesus ( Gal 2:20). He has feelings like every man, but he is not controlled by the flesh and its appetites. Rom 8:10 KJV “And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” This means the Christian is ruled by the Spirit of Christ and not his flesh. The unfortunate truth is that most Christians are living like mere men. They are simply carnal. Please refer to the following verses.

Mat 5:28 KJV But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

1Co 6:13 KJV” Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; an d the Lord for the body.

1Co 7:2 KJV” Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”

1 Thess 4:3 KJV” For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:”

Fornication is simply any illicit sexual act. Dear Christian, concubinage is fornication, and there is no room to keep a concubine.

PRAYER:

Oh, Father, send a revival of truth among the church to forsake mundane practices, but to act rightly, that will bring glory to you, Lord.

SATANIC RESISTANCE

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Sam 3:1 KJV Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

Saul pursued David from the period that the women of Israel sang that Saul had killed his thousands, but David his ten thousand, until he met his death during their war with the Philistines. After his death, his tribesmen, that is the Benjamin’s, continued to fight the house of David, that is the tribe of Judah. I believe this was not just humans who did not want David to become king, but a demonic program behind their actions resisting David from mounting the throne to bring to pass God’s intended program. Remember that God said David was a man after his heart, who would do the Lord’s bidding (Acts 13:22). This means David did not just become the king immediately after King Saul died. The Bible said there was a long war between the house of Saul and that of David.

Satan has always raised his ugly head to challenge the purposes of God on the earth. Before the birth of Moses, King Pharaoh of Egypt was led by Satan to destroy the coming deliverer. They went about killing every male child of the Jews. In the mind of Satan, Moses, who was to be the deliverer, would be killed. This attack failed. Satan repeated this similar evil during the birth of Jesus in a replica of Moses’ case. In this time, too, Jesus escaped. The Bible said that although the battle between the house of Saul and David prolonged, the house of David waxed stronger and stronger while the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker. Satan would never win over the Lord. No matter how much the people being used by Satan resolve to fight on, they would lose because their master has already lost.

The bible describes the war as a prolonged one. Some battles in your life may prolong. This does not mean it would be forever, or the enemy would win. No, the enemy has been defeated, before men were created on the earth. The Lord Jesus established an eternal defeat of the devil. Heb 2:14 KJV “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Please no matter how long the fight may seem to go, hold your grounds and keep declaring your victory over the devil. Never admit that you are losing, no. The war in the first place is a spiritual one, between God and Satan, but Satan is already defeated. This makes you a winner, but you have got to hold your ground.

Now your victory plan is as follows

1 Never give up

2 Never admit you are losing

3 Keep declaring you are the winner

4 Keep thanking God for making you a winner

5. Maintain your prayer by resisting the enemy and asking God to give you the victory, which would be unbelievable.

CONFESSION

I thank you, dear heavenly father, for your faithfulness. You have eternally defeated the devil, and so no matter how he tries to fight back, I am forever a winner.

FOLLOWING DIVINE GUIDANCE

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 2:1 ” And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron”.

Please read the whole of 2 Samuel chapter 2

After the death of Saul, David decided to go back into Israel (Judah). He needed to get God’s approval before he went. He also needed to know the particular town in Judah to go to. He enquired of the Lord.. The Lord asked him to go to Hebron. Once again, David reveals to us the foundation of His successful life: that is an absolute dependence on the instructions of the Holy Spirit.

In Hebron, the men of Judah, that is the very tribe from which David hailed, came and anointed him king. The people of Judah told David that it was the people of Jabesh Gilead who buried Saul. This turn of events speaks volumes. Everyone knew that King Saul had been pursuing David to kill him, implying that, naturally, Saul should not be one man they would like, yet these people knew from David’s actions that he loved King Saul; and so they were bold to talk about those who had shown kindness to Saul. The brethren from Judah would have hated Saul, yet because David loved Saul, they likewise accepted him. Dear leader, your dispositions ultimately affect the general state of thinking of your members and the people who stay close to you. A leader who talks bad about other men of God would have his immediate associates doing likewise. They would always pick up on the way this leader goes about relating to others.

God our Father is ever ready to guide and tell us what to do. It is up to us to seek his counsel on every aspect of our lives. Many mistakes or losses could have been avoided if we had been diligent enough to seek divine guidance. The problem is that many of us are so confident in ourselves. A man of God was about to travel. He just entered his first car and attempted to start it, but it would not start. He turned to the next car, and that also failed to start. He abandoned the first two to use a third one, which also failed to start. As he contemplated what was happening, he fell into a sleep where the Lord spoke to him that there were highway robbers on the road robbing people of their new cars. If he had enquired earlier, he would not have gone through all those problems. God was just merciful with him. People were killed on that road that day by the robbers. Be wise and humble to daily seek the Lord’s guidance.

CONFESSION

The Lord is my life and my wisdom. He is my light. I daily seek his counsel on all I do. My life is secured, and most errors of life are avoided.

RESPOND TO PEOPLE ACCORDING TO WHAT GOD SAYS, NOT ACCORDING TO WHAT THEY DO.

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 1:12. And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

When David heard about the death of King Saul and Jonathan, he rent his clothes, mourned, wept, and fasted till evening for Saul and Jonathan.

Please note Saul had pursued David out of the land of Israel and caused him to stay in the Land of the Philistines, yet he did not “pop champagne” but burst into tears and wept for him. The man who claimed he killed Saul, although that was not true, rather he was seeking for David’s commendation to him for killing his enemy, David said, “How were you not afraid to stretch forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed? (2 Samuel 1:14)

He asked that this man must die for his utterances. Be careful about what you say. It could lead you to big trouble. Why could David not be taken over with anger and vengeance for Saul? Many people would have jubilated on hearing of Saul’s death. David did not relate to people according to who they were or what they did, but what God’s word said about them. David had a great reverence for God and what God approves. To h, m God had approved and anointed Saul to be king, and no one had any right to attack him.

I believe we must all apply this principle to do everything in this life. We must respond to people not according to what they do or who they are but what God’s word says we must do to them. He said, Do unto others as you want others to do unto you. He never said Do unto others as they do unto you. Many marriages would have been saved if they had worked with this principle. What we see in most homes is that couples play by tooth for tooth. This is the very thing the Lord asked us not to do. Wife, the Lord instructs you to be submissive to your own husband. Eph. 5:22

If your husband is not the loving man that you would like.  The Lord says submit to him. Your submission must only be in obedience to the Lord. If the wife does not respect her husband, the man must likewise love his wife irrespective of the fact that she does not respect him. That is God’s instruction. There can never be any marriage that would run into deep marital stress if couples live by this rule. David rendered to Saul what God would want him to do. Because David lived by this rule, the Lord made sure that David had a very successful reign.

He crowned his successor king in his lifetime before he died. Faithfulness to God pays.

    CONFESSION

I am committed to honouring God’s word all the days of my life. I do not live by what people do, but by what God says I must do for them.

SOME SIGNS OF FALSE MEN OF GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Phi 3:18 KJV” (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)”

In our previous study, we listed a few signs that one may find in a man who is not genuinely pursuing the course of our Lord Jesus Christ. The danger of following such a man is that you may find yourself in the pit of hell.

Jonathan, a very good and selfless man, died in a battle he should not have died. His father’s ways were against God’s way, and so God was not with him. When God judged Saul, he could not leave Jonathan out. He had to die because his choice to join King Saul made him a partaker of the problems of King Saul.

We now explain the signs of men who are not genuine followers of the Lord Jesus. This time we explain further.

We said in our previous study that most false men of God claim they are the only genuine men of God, and that all others are false teachers. Any man who does that is playing the game of divide and rule. His view is that if he succeeds in painting other ministers black, he can then have the flock coming to him. His goal is his belly and not souls for heaven.

The next sign of false ministers is that they prepare certain substances, calling them miracle drinks or anointed materials to sell to the congregants. The goal of such men is to find some wise means to make a lot of money. They make huge amounts of money only to condemn pastors who take the tithe and offering.

Thirdly, such men do not teach sound doctrine.

Especially if it is quite frequent 2Tim 4:3 KJV For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; If one teaches that the contention between Cain and Abel was because of a woman. Such men have other books that teach such things.

4 The teachings of the New Testament are clear without any ambiguity that a minister should be a man of one wife. Some even have girlfriends alongside. 1 Tim 3:2,

Jesus is not the central focus of their teaching. They keep talking about how powerful and a better man of God they are. Our Lord Jesus is our all. We died with Him, for Him to take over our lives. He is the image and person every true man of God must project.

False teachers do not talk about evangelism. They have dabbled in other sources of power, and so they trust these powers to bring people into their midst. Soul winning never comes to the messages. Please check for this. They may ask you to invite people to church, but they would never teach about winning souls through sharing the gospel.

Jesus said you would know them by their fruits. One major trait is pride and arrogance. They would go to any length to curse, insult and even physically attack those who cross their ways. They would never leave matters to lie as Jesus did.

Any man of God who supports LGBTQ is a false man of God. The basis of this thing is that there is no God, and men should be allowed to do what pleases them. I am not talking about having mercy on them to seek their deliverance, but to accept that such a lifestyle is an alternative way to live. No, it is a rebellion against God, and an abomination.

Jesus said, freely you have received and freely give, yet certain men of God would charge money before seeing you to pray for you.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I pray for every man of God to be stirred by your mighty holy spirit, and help is to have the courage to forsake every wrong way, to live by your word.

PERSISTENT DISOBEDIENCE BRINGS GOD’S JUDGEMENT

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1Sam 31:2 KJV “And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.”

Please read 1st Samuel 31:1-6

Saul, out of his ego, refused to accept the will of God. It was a known secret by almost every Israeli citizen that David had been appointed by the Lord to be the next king. King Saul did everything within his power to render it impossible. Sadly, he could not fight God. He paid so dearly with his own life, all his sons, including Jonathan, who was seen by Saul as the next king. Should Jonathan have died at such a time? I think he should not have died, but because he chose to stand by the Father, he was punished with him.

Jonathan knew very well that his father had fallen out of faith with God. Consider the fact that he had to kill so many priests just because David came to see Ahimelech the priest. Jonathan had to stay away from such an enemy of God to team up with David. Dear one, do not join the man who clearly shows that he hates the way of God. God’s judgement would come on such a person, and anyone who is with him would surely be punished along with him.

Israel, according to God’s promise to Abraham, should always possess the gates of their enemies (Gen 22:17)

They were never to be defeated by their enemies. Sadly, they were chased by the Philistines, and many were slain. Israel, through the covenant with the Lord, was one with the Lord.

They were never to be defeated in any battle. Their defeat was God’s defeat, and the Lord should not, nor ever be defeated. As the monarch of the universe, he remained the Lord of creation and the king of Kings. The sins of Saul had severed him and the whole of Israel. Isa 59:1 KJV Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

Dear child of God, choose always to do that which pleases the Lord. Be careful of the kind of associations you make. Is the leader of your church serving God or himself? Be fully certain that your association is not out of touch with God.

Consider the following signs to know if your leader is pursuing God’s way or his own.

1. Does he condemn all other men of God, claiming he is the only true man of God?

2. Does he sell various objects as anointing 1 Tim 3:3

3. Does he teach sound doctrine?

4. Is he the husband of one wife? 1st Tim 3:2

5. Is Christ the central person or himself in his messages?

6. Does he talk about evangelism and winning souls? Matt 28:19, 20

7. Does he bear the fruit of the Spirit Gal 5:22,23

8. Does he charge to pray for the sick?

If your answers were yes for about four or above in the above questions, then you may be dealing with a wrong man of God. Run away for your life.

WHEN CALAMITY STRIKES

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Sam 30:1 KJV And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;

David, with his six hundred men, including their wives and children lodged at Ziglag. A band of Amalekites raided the camp at a time when the men were not around. Has the Lord failed David and his men, since the Lord assured David of his protection? Before we take a look at that question, can we consider why calamity comes the way of the people of God? Let’s consider some reasons why trouble does come to the righteous.

1. Trouble may come as a result of one’s disobedience to God. Rom 2:9, 10

2. Trouble may come not because of one’s mistakes but as a result of man’s fallen nature, that gives Satan the right to attack men 2 Corinthians 4:2.

3. God also allows certain crises to come to His saints to test their reliance on Him and to ultimately show His power in the life of that child of God.

In David’s case, I believe, the Lord allowed it to show his great power to deliver him from imminent troubles. In this raid, the Amalekites took every woman with her children and burnt down the. Whole campsite.

When he and his men returned to see the devastated campsite. Each man wept for his loss. They got so desperate to the point that they said they would stone David. He indeed restrained himself by not accusing anybody. He rather encouraged himself in the Lord. He enquired from the Lord whether to pursue the raiders or not. The Lord asked him to go after them, and that he would recover all. David pursued them. He did go after them, and to the glory of God, they recovered everything.

When trouble hits us, we may grieve the situation, but that should be for a very short moment. David encouraged himself in the Lord. He might have rehearsed some of God’s glorious promises of protection and general goodwill towards Him. Always talk to the Lord about His eternal goodness and faithfulness. Put your confidence in Him. Seek his counsel as to what to do. Do not fight the problem, that is to complain about what has happened, or to play the blame game. Find ways to solve the matter and follow through with the plan to reverse what has happened. If it’s an issue that you can’t do anything about, I then accept that you should not worry about it, but encourage yourself to go on with your life.

PRAYER

Dear Father, we pray for all those in deep crises that you show them a way of escape. Strengthen those who need to be consoled and heal those who have been stricken with some disease.
