WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST 3.

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.

Nicodemus a religious leader visited the Lord Jesus and started acknowledging by saying that the miraculous powers demonstrated by the Lord reveals that God was with Him. The Lord quickly answered him in a way that could be judged as an answer out of contest. The Lord knows what the heart and mind of every person seek: God always relate with us on the bases of what we need irrespective of what we may be saying.

The Lord answered him “verily I say unto you, except a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.

This statement was emphatic and straight forward. If you would want to see the kingdom of God, you must be born again. The word “must” gives no ambiguity or alternatives. There is no other way that a man can be saved unless he or she is born again.

What is born again? To be born again is a supernatural experience in which a man through faith acknowledges Jesus as his Lord and saviour. This act of faith results in a supernatural transformation right within you. (John 1:12&13) Romans 10:9,10 reads “That if thou shall confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead, thou shall be saved, for with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”.

Jesus explained further to Nicodemus that one is born again through the agency of the Spirit and water. Well the water in this context is the word of God. 1st Peter 1:23 ” Being born again not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abides forever”. The word of God is Spirit and life (John 6:63). One must hear the word and believe that Jesus died for his sins and rose again after the third day. Anyone who believes this and confesses with his mouth that Jesus is his Lord shall be born again.

Why must we be born again? We must be born again because man is born a sinner and therefore spiritually dead. Romans 3:23, Romans 5:1-2. Any man born into this life or by physical birth is dead unto God, he must receive life which is only possible by accepting Jesus as his Lord and saviour.

   CONFESSION

Lord Jesus, you came into this life to save my soul, I accept you as my saviour and confess you as the Lord over my life. Thank you Lord for saving my soul.

FURTHER STUDIES.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”;

Titus 2:11-12  ” For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world”;

WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST 2.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 3:15 “And Jesus answering said unto him, suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him”.

Our key scripture tells us our Lord Jesus’ answer to John who resisted him from he (John) baptizing Him because Jesus was greater. The issue at stake is not what honourable, dignifying or so is called acceptable. It is what is right in God’s eyes. Jesus said suffer it to be so. That word suffer, means to allow or permit. It is also means to endure. Although it may not be pleasant, that is what God has ordained for that particular time. To successfully relate with God, we have to endure, allow or suffer certain things (2nd Timothy 2:3) The Lord .said allow it for “now”.  What is God asking you to do “now”?

In God’s dealings timing is very important. In the Greek language there are different words for time. I would look at two of them.

  1. Chronos
  2. Kairos.

Chronos is the normal flow of time as it come to pass. Kairos is God’s designated time for a particular event. It is called the opportune time or the appointed time. Such a time must not be missed.

Many people out of insensitivity miss their Kairos moments. Our Lord was an extremely sensitive man. He said he came to do the will of God (Hebrews 10:7). Doing God’s will in the allotted moments is your Kairos or opportune moments.

The proceeding verse says “And Jesus when he was baptized went up straight way out of the water and Lo the heavens were opened, and He saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him. And lo a voice from heaven saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased”. Oh what an encounter. What would have happened if he had yielded to the fleshly pleas of John the Baptist?

What divine blessing you have missed by deciding to yield to what the flesh is saying, and not to what the Spirit wants. What would Joseph had become if he had yielded to the pleas of Potiphar’s wife and had not been quick to yield to the Spirit (Genesis 39:7–15). From today decide to be in step with the Spirit. Know that humility always precedes honour. Obedience turns God to your favor.

Humility is placing God’s word or interest first. Every instruction of God that appears humanly degrading is in fact a door to a glorious state. Go through that door.

CONFESSION

The instructions of God are not grievous. Since it always comes with glory hidden within. I always readily yield to what the Lord says with joy for I know it has a blessed end.

FURTHER STUDIES.

Hebrews 12:2″  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”.

John 12:26 ” If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour”.

WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the living word of God. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God”. He took on flesh and dwelt in the midst of men. (John 1:14). He is God who became man. His words are weightier, richer, enlightening, blessing and what have you? It is therefore a great blessing to look and reflect over some of the amazing words that poured forth out of His gracious mouth to us. In our next series of studies we would be considering some of the statements Jesus made, either in private to individuals or public to a mass of people.

We would consider a statement Jesus made to John the Baptist at the river Jordan during a baptismal service. When the Lord approached John to be baptized by him, John hesitated and said “………I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? The Lord also answered back saying “Suffer it to be so now for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness”. This is a very remarkable statement from the master. John had earlier said, to the crowd that he only baptised with water, but the one who was coming after him will baptise with the Holy Ghost and with fire. And even he is not worthy to lose the latchet of his shoes”. John knowing who Jesus was could not think of baptising Him, but God had designed and purposed it to be so. Our Lord described it as fulfilling all righteousness. Dear reader, it is not what people say, or what they want from you that must be done. It is always what God has instituted to be done. The Lord’s statement reveals what true humility is all about. Humility is how much a man is ready to honour the word of God irrespective of what men think or say.

Many people live by the titles they have and would not be prepared to do something simple or so called condescending. To some of us ministers, how many of us would be ready to accept an invitation to a small congregation who would not be able to give you a fat honorarium when you know very well it is God’s will to go. Africa is poor because people who control power have been intoxicated with power. How can the under development stop when people want to build mansions out of one governmental project?

  CONFESSION

Living is all about honouring God in all we do. I will seek always to do what God says irrespective of how simple, humiliating it may appear. All that matters is pleasing the Lord.

FURTHER STUDIES.

Revelation 4:11 ” Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created”.

Hebrews 10:7, 9 ” Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second”.

RULED BY THE WORD IN OUR HOMES 25.

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 1:12 “And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth”.

In our key scripture Hannah prayed fervently for a son.

Good parenting would not be complete without a consistent fervent praying for the children.

The Lord Jesus instructed that men ought always to pray and not to faint (Luke 18:1).

Men are faced with unseen forces who hate and will do everything to see the failure and destruction of all humanity. The Lord described Satan who is the culprit, as a murderer and a liar. (John 8:44). Many children grow up with a great and promising future. Some of these children turn out as failures. Why is this so? Some people of God are shattered to notice that their children have grown wayward and doing things that become a reproach to the course of Christ.

Prayer would always release the supernatural hand of God into action to steer their ways rightly. God has set the world and it’s running in such a way that, until men pray God is not permitted to step in. That’s why He commands men to pray and not to faint.

Parents, pray for your children. The father is the king, and high priest of the home. He must offer the incense of prayer always (Revelation 8:4). Most fathers tend to leave the work of praying for their children to the mothers. Fathers this is your responsibility, don’t leave it to the mothers alone. Mothers support the fathers, yet it is the prime duty of the fathers to pray and intercede for the children.

Some prayer points for your children:

  1. Pray that the love of your children for God will abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgement. (Philippines 1:9).
  2. Pray that they would be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ (Philippines 1:10b).
  3. Pray that they would be filled with the fruits of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ unto the praise and glory of God. (Philippines 1:11).
  4. Pray that every prophetic word spoken over their lives would be fulfilled (1 Timothy 1:18).
  5. Pray that your children would do and achieve greater works than you. (John 14:12).

  PRAYER

I pray for my children, that their love for God will grow stronger and stronger, as they approve of excellent things and also they would be sincere and will be without offense until they meet the Lord. May every prophetic word about their lives be absolutely fulfilled in Jesus name.

1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;”

John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:26-27. ‘Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:Neither give place to the devil”.

How do you help your rebellious son or daughter?

From our last study we learnt that the youth who does not overcome his anger comes under demonic control. He may go to church, and may do whatever you ask him or her to do yet deep down in his heart, he is hurting or angry. He or she has thought of things to do to satisfy his or her ego. When such a person meets with his or her colleagues she portrays her true nature, doing things that has not godly or Christian influence.

How can this person be helped.

  1. Pray fervently for him or her. James 5:16, 17.

Don’t condemn or complain but relate to him or her in love.

  1. Use the scriptures to reveal his nature and the result of his actions. Go through 2nd Samuel 13:1 to the end. Highlight on verses 21 and 22.

David was angry yet did not punish Amnon in anyway. This infuriated Absalom. Make him or her know that she or he is feeling hurt because of something and cannot come out to say it. Ask him to tell you what is making him feel hurt or angry.

  1. Go further to 1st Samuel 13 and 15 and discuss the characteristics of a rebel. All these things would be playing and painting pictures of his behaviour to him. Let him know that, the end of every rebel is destruction. 2nd Samuel 18:9-14, showed the end of Absalom. Turn to 1st Samuel 15:27-28. King Saul also demonstrated the character of a rebel and lost his reign. Narrate all these things to him or her.
  2. Allow him to tell you his response after all the narrations.
  3. Pray with him asking him to denounce his thoughts and actions.

(You may introduce him to a counselor to speak to him)

  PRAYER

Every son or daughter who may be going through a difficult moment of anger, leading to rebellion, may you be set free by the power of God. I declare divine grace to lift you above every deception of the enemy in Jesus name.

FURTHER STUDIES.

1 Samuel 15:23 “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king”.

Proverbs 17:11 “An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:26-27 ” Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:Neither give place to the devil”.

In our previous study we looked at the teenager or child who falls or slips into sin. We would now consider the one who has become a rebel. Rebellion normally proceeds from an unresolved hurt.

Absalom became a rebel because he was deeply hurt as a result of his sister being raped by Amnon. (2nd Samuel 13:21, 22)Teenagers also become rebels through a misunderstanding of an action from their parent, or the parent provoking them unintentionally or intentionally. (Ephesians 6:4)”Father’s provoke not your children to wrath.” Please note, parents provoke their children when they fail to act in line with God’s word.

Our key scripture tells us not to let the sun go down on our anger, and to give no place to the devil. When a hurt is not allowed to die that individual gives a place to the devil. Every rebellious child is under the influence of a devil.

What are the signs of a rebellious son or daughter?

  1. He or she is withdrawn and does not participate in the cooperate activities in the home.(2nd Samuel 13:22)
  2. He or, she would give simple answers. Example yes or no. His words become few although he used to talk a lot.
  3. Easily burst into anger and may scream or beat up young ones who may offend him.
  4. He hardly admits he is wrong. He would always put the blame on others. Will easily tell a lie (1st Samuel 13:10–12) King Saul is an example of a rebel, he always put the blame on others. (1st Samuel 15:5–31)Please read through these references and see how rebels always defend their actions.
  5. Rebels are very selfish and always seek their interests.
  6. Rebels do not slip or fall into sin but willfully commits the error.

     7. A rebel will act to offend the parents.(Some may start using drugs, drinking, or will            not go to church etc,)

How do you help your rebellious child?

       (to be continued )

     PRAYER

I pray and declare that my children shall not be dominated by the spirit of pride and     arrogance. They will always yield to the word of God to overcome satanic influences.

  FURTHER STUDIES

Proverbs 16:32 ” He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

Ecclesiastes 7:9 ” Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”.

RULED BY THE WORD ON OUR HOMES 22

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 10:14” I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”

(The following is not normal with most Christian children, yet parents ought to watch out to prevent them from occurring.)

Every parent must know his or her children. In knowing them you must know the signs that show when your son or daughter may be slipping or missing the mark or he or she is becoming a rebel

People do slip and fall into sin. Others may become rebels. These two states can be seen in two people in the Bible, king David and king Saul.

We would consider the case of the one who slipped and fell into sin. An example is the boy who might have impregnated a lady or the younger innocent girl who is found to be pregnant. These ones might have slipped and fell into sin. Let’s consider the story of King David. 2 Samuel 11:1-27.

King David committed adultery and murder.

God sent Nathan the prophet to tell David of his sin. This is what King David said in 2 Samuel 12:13 “And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, the Lord also hath put away the sin, thou shalt not die:

The son or daughter who slips is quick to admit his offence. He does not shift blame or try to defend himself or herself.

What are the signs that show your daughter or son is drifting off.

  1. He or she does not read his bible often and has no good prayer life.
  2. He or she is usually absent from church services but would be found in the company of those who may be luring him or her away.
  3. He or She is normally occupied with her mobile phone, conversing or chatting.
  4. Likes to watch television late into the night.
  5. Has not the slightest desire to share the gospel with others.
  6. Would be found sleeping in church or would be looking inattentively when prayers are going on in church.
  7. Stays out of the home than usual.

If you see these signs in your child then he or she needs help. Get closer to them .Let them know the fact that sin is lying at their door and it will take dominion over them if they do not stand fast. Inquire about the kind of people they relate with. Insist they are punctual to church services. Invest her in the word. Pray with them and for them, and trust the Lord to save the situation.

CONFESSION

I would get close to know my children. By the grace of God I would be able to help them out of their short comings.
