KEY SCRIPTURE: John 18:23 KJV” Jesus answered him If I have spoken evil bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?”
During the High Priest interrogations, the Lord answered him, by asking Him to contact the many who heard Him teach, concerning His doctrine. An officer who stood by slapped His face. The Lord asked whether He said anything wrong. If He did not speak wrongly then why did he have to slap Him? This is a man who really had control of Himself. In all His passion or suffering, this was the first assault to be followed by more grievous ones. Many men would quickly respond to such provocation with rage. They would show by an outburst of anger and even with insults. The Lord had absolute control over Himself. Pro 16:32 KJV “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
Proverbs 16:32 describes the comportment of Jesus. He was slow to anger and was able to rule His spirit. The scripture said such a person is better than the mighty and the man that takes over a city. Real strength is not physical but rather one’s ability to hold himself from doing wrong. Many great leaders have been reduced to pieces of bread because they could not control their ego, anger, or pride. They ended up bringing shame and reproach to the ministry.
Apostle Paul said in 2nd Corinth 6:3 as follows ” Giving no offence in anything, that the ministry be not blamed:” He said we give no offence under any condition. He meant no matter the difficulty he would not act in a way that would dishonor the name of Christ and their office as ministers of God. He said in ALL THINGS he approves himself as a minister of God, in much patience, in afflictions, necessities, and in distresses. Every child of God is a minister or, in a more simple word, a servant or slave of God. We are not masters of ourselves, but representatives of the king of Kings. We must exercise rule over our spirits or inner self to always do things according to what God’s word says. This could be possible by renewing our minds. Renewal of the mind is different from just feeding the mind with the scripture. One may have the whole bible in his memory yet, if the Spirit of his mind is not renewed, he would continue living like a child of Satan. It is when the mind is brought to the place of surrender totally to the reign of Christ, that one could be described as having a renewed mind.
