KEY SCRIPTURE:  Hebrews 5:7 ” Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;”

Prayer is a virtue, which is as vital, for our victory in life and effectiveness as Christians.

We take a study into the prayer example of our Lord Jesus

Our Lord Jesus was a man of prayer. (Remember we learnt that He was fully God and fully man). Our key scripture says IN THE DAYS OF HIS FLESH. He demonstrated His humanity in His prayer life. The Lord offered up prayers with great passion. It was heart felt. James 5:16 AMP…..the heartfelt prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much, it is dynamic and can have tremendous power…..”

It was this disposition to be praying consistently that caused the disciples to ask Him. Luke 11:1  “… he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, …”The Lord Jesus was an extremely busy man, with crowds always around Him yet he never failed one day in not communicating with the  father.

  1. He prayed during His baptism (Luke 3:21)
  2. He prayed and fasted forty days and forty nights (Luke 4:2)
  3. He frequently rose up a great while before the day to pray (Mark 1:35)
  4. He prayed through the night all alone (Luke 6:12)
  5. He prayed on the mountain apart deep into the night (Matt 14:23)
  6. He prayed in agony at Gethsemane (Luke 22:44).
  7. He prayed for all His disciples, past and even us in (John 17)

All these demonstrated His unflinching dependence on the Father during His earthly ministry. The results and impact of His ministry as a direct reflection of His prayer life is there for all to see.

Jesus has shown us the true life of prayer and we must learn from him.

Do you want to make a real impact on your world? Are you having unnecessary barriers to your life and ministry, then do as He did. Pray as if all depends on prayer and work as if all depends on working. This was the Lord’s approach to life and He was an immense success.

Thank you heavenly Father for the privilege of prayer. As I pray I enter into a closer relationship with you bringing transformation to me as well as effecting changes in my world around me

Matthew 14:23 ” And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone”.

Luke 3:21 “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened”,

KEY SCRIPTURE: Mark 1:15 “And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel”.

Believing in God, is the most positive virtue to exercise. The bible says all things are possible to them who believe. (Mark 9:23). Believe in God awakens every dying energy in you and makes you keep winning all the way through. Unbelief in God is the worse of influences that can operate in men. Unbelief is what causes a man to marry a dog or a man to use his neighbor for money ritual. Every ‘foolish’ thing or act can be committed by men in the face of unbelieve in God. Unbelief would awaken every negative power or force to cause you to fail. Believing in yourself is a great deception of the enemy.

True believing in God begins with a repentance from all deceptions of the enemy. And accepting whatever God says in His word. The bible calls it, renewing the mind in Romans 12:2. As we feed our lives with the word, believing whatever it says our lives are transformed in to higher levels of being or experiences.

God’s word is a mystery. It has a supernatural potential to make us whatever it talks about. Believing whatever we have read brings about this experience. Many people have heard so much, yet they remain the same, why? They do not believe what they have been hearing or listening to. Through believing these exceeding great and pressures promises we become partakers of the divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world ,through lust or unbelieve(2 Peter1:4) .There is a force and power of decay that sin released into mankind and  in creation as a whole. (Rom 8:2)Believing in the word sets up in us a higher law that totally renders this power of decay inoperative and making us free (Mark 16:15-17).

The meaning of believe in the Ghanaian languages simply means to take and eat or swallow. It also means to place your survival on it. Dare to believe whatever the word of God tells you. Please spend some moments to meditate on what Psalm 119:89-90 says “Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth”.

Lastly the power in the word is set into operation by saying or speaking forth that which you have believed. (Rom 10:9&10,2nd Corinth 4:13)

I believe in God my father, I believe in His revealed word, the word makes me what it talks about. I have been transformed from an ordinary human to a superhuman state through my birth into Christ. I reign in this life by grace.

Romans 12:2 ” And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.

2 Peter 1:4 ” Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Peter 1:5 ” And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge”.

For our next series of studies we would be considering various moral virtues.

A virtue is a good quality in men, and is also admirable. The first of these virtues to look at is believe in God. This may appear very simple and unimportant, yet it is the foundation upon which every other virtue rest or stands.  In actual fact the Lord says without it no one can please Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

The main sin for which men would be judged and cast into eternal damnation is unbelieve in God. (John 16:9) “Of sin, because they believe not on me “;

Believing is not an act of God in man, but a decision of an individual to exercise his or her will to accept what God has said about Himself. When a man acts this way God justifies Him. (Rom 5:1).

God’s revelation of Himself to humanity presently is Jesus Christ. (Matt 1:23, 1st John 5:20)

Believe in Him is true freedom and fulfillment in this life. Every hurt, worry, pain in the heart is a sign that man has pushed aside this simple virtue. Fear which is a common human trait, which has robbed and terrorized most people, has had that freedom to harass men because man refuses to believe in the Lord Jesus. .

Please ask yourself, do I have peace, is there anything that troubles me, do I find it difficult to relate with my neighbor? If your answer is yes then certainly you have cast away that confidence in the Lord. Hebrews 10:35 “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward”. It does not matter whether you call yourself a Christian or not, so long as you have emotional pain, then there is something wrong with your believing. Believing in Him is the foundation for all proper actions that goes to honor Him, and liberates us from all emotional pain. We must daily and moment by moment submit our wills to His revealed word, so we can be free from the bondage and deception in this life. BELIEVING IS A CHOICE, CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THE LORD.

My confidence is not in my reason but solely in Jesus. By Him I am absolutely free and walk in dominion and fulfillment in this life.

Numbers 20:12  “And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them”.

Hebrews 11:6 ” But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”

Our key scripture admonishes us to declare the psalms and spiritual songs unto ourselves. It is not referring to others but to yourself. These psalms and prayers were prayed and sang by King David and it became the prayer and songbook of the Israelites.

There is a prophetic element to these psalms, because they minister edification, exhortation, and comfort. This is revealed about prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14:3” But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort”.

This is something you have got to do always. They are prophetic declarations or prayers.

There are many of the psalms that minister great strength to us as we speak them forth. Psalms, 23, 103, 91, are just a few common ones that most of us are used to. Please take time to explore into others and your life would be so enriched.

The other important aspect of doing this, is the fact that, we are filled with the Holy Spirit as we speak the psalms to ourselves. Ephesians 5:18-19 ” And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”;

We see from the preceding verses that, speaking these psalms and spiritual songs unto ourselves helps us to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

A lot of stresses, satanic attacks would be stopped as we do these things. As you speak forth these psalms, you are making prophetic declarations that would be established in your life.

Thank you heavenly Father for the psalms and spiritual songs. They are songs of praise, words of encouragement, and very powerful words that places me over various challenges as I speak them forth. Thank you father in Jesus name.

Psalms 34:1-6” I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ezekiel 37:4 “Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD”.

The prophet Ezekiel was carried in the realm of the Spirit into a valley of dry bones scattered all over. The Spirit of the Lord inspired him to prophesy over those dry bones and indeed as he obeyed, flesh came over the bones, life came into them and they became a mighty army.  In our lives as children of God we can employ this same principle to see impossible situations turn positive.

Our Lord Jesus on a lot of occasions spoke to inanimate things and they responded to His declarations. He spoke to the fig tree, in Mark 11:14 “And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it”. Indeed the fig tree dried from its root. (Mark 11:20) He did the same to the ranging storms and it stilled up (Mark 4:39)

Instead of complaining about how deplorable things have become prophesy to the situation. It may be an inanimate thing like your business, bank accounts, your health or anything at all. Your children may not be performing well at school, place your hand on them and prophesy over them.

In the prophet Ezekiel’s case he received instructions from the Lord. You may receive inspiration from studying the word of God. This comes through meditation on the word and then personalizing the word for yourself, and then speak to the condition or thing to line up in the way you want it.

Another way to receive an inspiration to make prophetic prayers or declarations is when you have spent some moments praying in tongues. After such time of prayer you can then go ahead to make prophetic declarations about something you want changed.

One main condition about such a declaration is to believe that what you said has been settled. (Mark 11:23)

The word of God says, God has ordained power in my mouth. As I prophesy to various situations they align according to my expectations. I am seeing great successes all around me .Nothing is impossible to me in Jesus name.

Mark 11:23  “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith”.

Psalms 8:2 “Out of the mouth of babes and suckling’s hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Psalms 37:8 (Amplified) “Commit your way to the Lord-roll and repose (each care of) your load on Him; trust (lean on, rely on and be confident) also in Him, and He would bring it to pass”.

Why should we cast our cares unto the Lord? The Lord does not want His children to worry or to be full of anxiety and burdened down with the cares of life. (Matt 6:25-27). All that the Lord is saying from the above scripture is that, which of you by worrying and being overly anxious is going to change anything?

The same thought is revealed in Luke 12:22 “And he said unto his disciples, therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on”.

You must cast all your cares unto the Lord. You do this once. Any other time another issue of concern show up, just give it over to the Lord. What do you do when your thoughts seem not to stop worrying? Say to yourself,’ I have given this matter to the Lord and He is well able to handle it’. I would no longer worry. Please say this to yourself as often as, your mind seems to go for the burden.

Worry is a sin. The bible says anything which is not of faith is  sin (Romans 14:23). Worry is not of faith. It is a sin according to the bible.

Worrying would rob you of your answers and your prayer life would be certainly fruitless. The prayer of commitment is one that we have to do always, so long as matters rise up in our lives bringing concerns to our minds. This is our only way to lead a life of peace.

I always commit every care, concern or worry unto the Lord, and leave it with HIM. My life is filled with peace and power. God keeps answering my requests because I always trust in Him.

Luke 12:25-26 “And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?”

Proverbs 3:5-6 ” Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1st Peter 5:7 “Casting all your cares upon him; for he careth for you”

Another kind of prayer for our consideration is the prayer of commitment. The opening scripture states that we should cast all our cares upon the Lord for He cares for us… This act of committing your concerns or worry unto the Lord is called the prayer of commitment.

Every human being would one day have issues that would demand some amount of concern. The degree of care varies from person to person. God’s remedy for us is to cast such cares to the Lord. It should not be something to pray about. The Bible said it’s God’s business to care about all such things. Please get a clear understanding about these things, you don’t ask God to take away your cares, rather you cast or give the cares over to Him.

In John 15:1, the Lord Jesus is the vine, we are the branches and the father is the husbandman or the caretaker. It is His role to take care of all that concerns us. It is our part to bear fruit that is to shine, excel and reveal His glory. These are the divine roles and you must not do God’s duty for Him.

Philippians 4:6 iterated this same point that we should be anxious about nothing, but in everything, with prayer, supplication and thanksgiving we should give our problems to God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep our hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.

The instruction of scripture is never to be anxious about anything, but to give the issues to God and leave the solution to Him. Well He made the world and has never failed in sustaining its smooth running. Apply the prayer of commitment in such times. Commit your ways to Him, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. (Proverbs 3:5)

Thank you heavenly father that you are the caretaker and I am the fruit bearer, I leave every concern to you and refuse to worry or be anxious about anything. Your peace would continually protect my heart and mind in Jesus name.

1st Peter 5:7 “Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns once and for all,] on Him, for He cares about you with deepest affection, and watches over you carefully.” (Amplified Bible)

Psalm 37:5 “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass”

KEY SCRIPTURE:  Acts 12:5 “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him”.

In our key scripture Peter was apprehended by King Herod and was placed in the guard of sixteen soldiers, who watched from various levels in the prison. His escape meant they were to lose their lives. Peter’s deliverance was therefore an impossibility.  The only thing that could save Peter from this situation was a miracle. This is where, a travailing prayer comes into play. When an impossible situation must be changed. Remember James had been slaughtered by the same man.

Our key scripture said, Peter was held in prison but, prayer was made WITHOUT CEASING BY THE CHURCH UNTO GOD for him.

Please listen to what the Lord says in Psalms 50:15 ” And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me”. In the day of trouble call upon the Lord. Please note what Psalm 50:14, says offer unto the Lord thanksgiving and pay thine vows. What is the Lord saying? Maintain your fellowship with the Lord always. Take away everything that mares your relationship and fellowship with Him. In this way you can always stand confidently in faith before Him .Many Christians do not keep a close relationship with the Lord. It is when crises come that they want to hurriedly raise their confidence in the Lord. These things does not work out that way. Always maintain good fellowship with the Lord. Do not cut yourself from fellowshipping with the brethren. These are all your vows. Pay your vows. Keep every commitment to the Lord.

The brethren in Acts 12 prayed without ceasing, till, the answer came. Is there any impossible situation you want to see changed? Stop crying or worrying, and get into prayer. You may add fasting and according to God’s word you would see a change.

I am ever ready to stand in the presence of God, because I come in His righteousness and I maintain my fellowship with the Spirit. Nothing takes me unawares as I take it to the Lord in prayer.

James 5:16-17 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months”.

Hebrews 5:7  “Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared”;

KEY SCRIPTURE:  Isaiah 66:8  “Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children”.

The key scripture is a question referring to something which has been said earlier. That is in verse 7.Isaiah 66:7 “Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child”.

These two verses are only establishing the fact that, to give birth to something new, there is the need for travailing. Without a travail no mother gives birth. This is the kind of prayer that changes situations. Be reminded it is not tea party business. No travailing is easy and pleasant, yet the ultimate is joy galore.

This is when you do not take no for an answer, knowing very well what God has revealed. Out of this form of prayer is the word PUSH, which is abbreviated form of the statement, Pray until Something Happens.

Many children of God are living far below divine provisions which they could have taken advantage of, only, if they had been a little persistent in their praying. Certain churches would have known greater victories if they had employed this form of praying. Remember what the Lord said in Matthew 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. Our Lord Jesus has determined the church as the ultimate winner. This can only happen on the grounds that we do not stop praying aggressively to see a breakthrough in every area of our lives. That word meant the gates of hell is seeking to prevail, and so we must hold our grounds and advance through travailing, prevailing prayer.

A mother shared the following testimony at church. The son who is just about a year and a few months stood with her by the roadside. Another lady passed by who said, I see your son is walking but my child who is older than your son can’t walk. Just after she said this and passed on, this sister’s son started going down and could not walk any longer. She said, ‘no way, Satan can’t destroy my boy’. She got into persistent prayer, and after two days the son got well and started walking again.

Dear heavenly father, as I hold my grounds on your word, praying through various issues, nothing would be withheld from me in Jesus name.

Galatians 4:19 “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you”.

1 Timothy 1:18 ” This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightiest war a good warfare”;

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 18:19 ” Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven”.

The prayer of agreement is one of the most positive privileges God has made available to the Christian.

Our key scripture is so explicit. It reads ,if two of you shall agree as touching anything on earth that ,they shall ask in Jesus name it shall be granted.

The word states the conditions for results in this type of prayer.

  1. You need to have another person with you on this earth
  2. Agree on the issue you want to see come to pass
  3. Present the request to the Father.

4 .Make the request in the name of the Lord.

If you obey the above conditions then there is no way you should not have your answer. You should not worry about faith for the answers. So long as you have observed these conditions just expect your answer.

The Lord gives us a certain assurance in the next verse Matt 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

Dear beloved brother or sister, anytime you decide to agree on an issue and subsequently make a request unto the Lord, be fully assured that Jesus is present with you. The father would definitely honor the request made in the name of the Son. If it is something you want changed, He (Jesus) says He would do it. (John 14 13&14)

In the light of the great potency of this kind of prayer, when you have an urgent issue to handle just look for a brother or sister who you know can agree with you and then make the request together. Marriage couples are one of the best people to see great impact in this area. Unfortunately a lot of couples don’t agree on very simple issues. Couples must see the hand of the enemy in their disunity and quickly kick him out, to see great results in their prayers.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the privilege of the prayer of agreement. I know that whatever request we make in the name of Jesus, you would always answer.

Matthew 18:18-20 “Verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

John 14:14 “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”.
