FOLLOW THE FAITH OF THE FATHERS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 6:12″ That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

One great lesson of all times is to learn to follow. Following makes things easier because you are not the starter but a follower or learner.

Our key scripture teaches us not to be slothful or lazy but to be alert and diligent to learn from those who have succeeded. The Bible says they inherited the promises through faith and patience.

Hebrews 13:7 has the following to say “Remember they which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God; whose faith follow, consider the end of their conversation”. We are to remember those who have taught us the word of God. He says we must follow their faith. To follow the faith of somebody is to consider the steps of faith taken by an individual as well as the outcome of these exploits, so you do likewise resting on the fact that if it went well with them it will go well with you.

The Holy Spirit gave an all-time statement after Heb. 13:7 as follows “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever”.(Hebrews 13;8) This scripture means the Lord Jesus who did not fail, these men who taught us the word of God and honoured their faith stance would likewise honour your faith stance for He does not change. Note the man with an example to follow or learn from him.

You can never be a failure following successful people. In the worst-case scenario, you would become like them. And remember, these are successful men. The Bible said we must not be slothful to follow such people.

In our times God has raised a number of generals who have achieved so much for God and we would do good for ourselves and the next generation after us to learn from the life, faith and experiences of such men. An example a of some of these men who have passed on into glory are Dr Billy Graham, Kenneth E Hagin, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, Smith Wiglesworth, Rev Mckweon and many more,

Some of those who are living in our times are men like our pastors and other leaders who taught us the word of GOD and many more. Get to know their stories and learn from their examples.

PRAYER

O heavenly father help me to learn from the examples of all those who have taught me the word and jow their faith-made exploits.

WHAT IS FAITH?

KEY SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Our key scripture is the best definition of faith. It is also a very powerful revelation that the Holy Spirit gave us. Faith is a very important subject to study and to live by. The Bible said by it the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:2) One cannot be ignored and missed up in the crowd when one walks by faith. Without faith, one cannot please God. (Hebrews 11:6)

Our key scripture teaches that faith is a present-moment assurance or possession of something hoped for. It is a title deed of something that is not physically at hand. A celebration of an anticipated answer. Faith in God is a confident assurance of a promise that God has given. Faith focuses on the promise of God and not the challenges around. Faith in God is spiritual and supernatural, so it is always superior to every natural opposition.

Hope is an anticipation or an expectant
ion and faith take hold of that which hope has obtained.

Faith and hope are partners. Hope always goes ahead, and faith comes along to take hold of that which hope has had. Without hope, standing up faith is paralyzed.

Although faith always dares the impossible, it rests on the mightiness and faithfulness of God. It is always the reliability of God that makes his words give birth to faith. Romans 10:17″So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”. If your faith is getting weak, what you need mainly is to give yourself a high dose of the word of God.

Faith’s achievements in a man are as God himself, for faith is God acting through a man….. The Lord said all things are possible to him who believes. (Mark 9:23)

The scripture narrates a few of the works of faith in God in Hebrews 11:33-34 “Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouth of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness was made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to fight the armies of the aliens”

These feats are continually being wrought by all those who take the path of walking in faith. Faith in God and faith to dare the impossible is normally not popular, yet those who stand for God are always celebrated. Be among those who would be celebrated for their faith in God.

CONFESSION

My faith in God is forever alive. By it, all things are possible to me. Life is exciting and beautiful because of faith in God. Faith in God always pleases him.

THE CROSS: OUR PLACE OF GLORY

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 6:14 ” But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world”.

Apostle Paul declares in our key scripture that God forbid that he should glory or boast, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is very revealing. Human nature tends to be proud of their achievements. In this scripture, we are told that every form of boasting outside the cross of our Lord Jesus is an empty boasting. Why is this so? The Bible reveals that men, by our lineage from our first father, Adam, have all inherited a nature of death and condemnation. Romans 5:12 “wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”. This nature is also called “the law of sin and death”(Romans 8:2). Every person born on this Earth has this power called the law of sin and death at work in him: Every human experience outside Christ and the cross is pure misery and failure. All achievements of any man and his subsequent boasting are futile.

The Lord Jesus’ death on the cross was a deliverance for all mankind. His death was the crucifixion of this power that ruled mankind. On the cross, we were all set free. The law of sin and death made us slaves to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that ruled the world. Ephesians 2:2 ” Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience “:

Dear child of God, because of the cross of Christ, we are crucified to the world and the prince of the power of the air. This spirit does not have the power to dominate us. Any Christian who lives in sin either does not know the truth or has willingly yielded himself or herself to this prince of the air. The cross of Christ spelt our deliverance. The cross is our place of glory. It is God’s instrument for our deliverance into the new life. We do not glory or boast about any achievement of ours but only in the cross of Christ.

Dear reader if you have not given your life to Jesus then you have not passed through this ‘door of deliverance’, you are still a slave to the world, ruled by the prince of the power of the air. If you refuse to make Jesus Lord of your life, you will be with this evil prince in hell. Choose to accept the Lord Jesus today.

PRAYER

Thank you, heavenly Father, because of our Lord Jesus who died on the cross for us. Today, l am free from Satan’s dominance and am an instrument to set others free. In Jesus’ name, I have prayed.

RIGHT ATTITUDE TO RESTORE A FALLEN BROTHER OR SISTER

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 6:1 ” Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted ”.

Our key scripture shows us the right attitude when helping a brother who has been overtaken by a fault.

The Lord once admitted that we would always have the poor with us. (Matthew 26:11). In the same understanding, we would always have brothers and sisters who would be overtaken at fault. We must accept that we all don’t have the same understanding towards the bible, and neither do we all respond to the scriptures in a similar way. How do we handle such a person who has been overtaken at fault?

Our key scripture shows us the attitude we have to take. We must approach them with the Spirit of meekness. Meekness is humility in action. This implies you must not attend to him or her with an ‘I am a better person’ attitude’. A humble mind is the one who accepts that I am whatever I am not by my efforts but by the grace of God. It is approaching the brother, not with a condemning attitude. He said in the key scripture, “considering yourself lest thou also be tempted”.

Whenever a brother approaches a fallen one who has been overtaken at a fault and condemns him or her, this person who condemns has thrown away the grace of God. Without the grace of God, everyone is incapable, unqualified, and guilty. To handle a brother without God’s grace is like using your bare hands to handle a life wire You would surely be electrocuted. How does this happen? When you approach with a condemning attitude, you have no divine protection, and the very power or demon that deceived him would easily overpower you and cause you to do an even worse act than the victim.

Never act in any moment as a Christian without the grace of God. This implies you should not be legalistic and condemn others. (Luke 6:37). What did those men who brought the lady who was supposed to be caught in the act of adultery do, after Jesus had asked them to cast their stones if they had not sinned before? None could cast their stone because every man had an area where he or she fell short. (John 8:3-11). Don’t cast any stone at anyone. Do not add your voice to accuse another brother or sister in their absence. If you do any of these things, you are judging and condemning others.

Dear one, be very considerate of people. The following scripture shows us, how to handle various kinds of people. 1Th 5:14 ISV” We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are idle, cheer up those who are discouraged, and help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.”

PRAYER

I pray for all those who have been overtaken by a fault or sin. May the Holy Spirit open up their eyes and strengthen them to rise above whatever has caused their fall and never go back into sin again. If it be a demonic bondage, may that power be broken in Jesus’ name.

LOVE STRENGTHENS FAITH

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 5:6. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Our key scripture establishes one basic fact, that, observing the works of the law by one’s effort does not meet God’s approval, but trusting in the Lord to work through you. Circumcision is an act that comes from the effort or works of an Individual, yet faith is not in works but trust in God.

Man by nature likes to do more than to trust. In the garden of Eden God made man like Himself (Gen 1:26-28). They did not need to do any more things to remain that way, but only to trust the word of God and keep pleasing God always. The Bible said when the devil through the serpent told them there was something to do to become like God, they chose to stop believing in God and to eat of the tree. They fell out of faith in God. It is faith that works by love. That is what matters unto God. These two virtues are most important to God. Faith relates more to God, while love relates more to God and our fellow man.

Our heavenly Father wants our actions to be motivated mostly by our faith in Him through our love for Him and our fellow men. Faith in God is strengthened by our love for God. Faith is the force that unites us to God. Faith is God working through a man. Faith is strong in our hearts when love for God is also very strong. 1st John 4:17 “Herein is our love made perfect that we may have boldness in the day of judgement…..”. Having boldness in the day of judgment is a demonstration of our faith. In light of this, if our faith should be strong, our love should be stronger. In light of this, help your faith by focusing on the great love the Father loves us.

Faith takes hold of all that Jesus is and has done. This is what matters in our relationship with God. Human effort or human abilities can not meet God’s requirements. Our key scripture says circumcision or non-circumcision does not matter. These things refer to what men do rather than believing in God. There are several Christians who show outward gestures like giving long religious prayers, putting up religious expressions when fasting and many more. These things are done to attract people’s attention. All these are human efforts not based on trust in God to be justified by Him.

The Christian experience is only acceptable before God when the Spirit of God is the one acting or doing the work through us. It is faith in God that makes the Spirit work through us.

One may preach but with a mind to attract attention to himself or herself. This is of the flesh. Some sing in churches to show how good they can sing. All these have nothing to do with faith. God is not involved with anything, not of faith. Faith always seeks God’s honour, not man’s.

CONFESSION

Everything I do, I do to honour God, and it is done by faith. I do nothing to attract men to myself. All is done to bring glory to Him.

YIELD YOURSELF UNTO GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

The next action word to consider is yield. The word yield in the Greek language means to stand beside or to place beside. In our modern language, it means to present, provide or make available.

This point is very vital in our call to stay away from sin and live unto righteousness. Romans 12:1 reads “I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
The scripture asks us to give up ourselves unto God. We must present our lives in trust to the Lord.

We must not give ourselves to the wrong appetites of our flesh. Romans 8:10 says “If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin…” The body should not be your master or leader. Give this body over to the Lord.

The first part of our body to be yielded unto the Lord is our mind. The mind is the steering wheel of the body. What occupies the mind controls and directs the body. Yield the mind unto the word of God. Let the considerations and meditations of the mind continually be on the word of God.
Satan and his demons know very well that if they can take over the mind, they can control the rest of the body and make it do what they want. Yield your mind by thinking about scriptural things. Philippians 4:8 says “Finally my brethren whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on these things
If children of God would only yield their minds to the above prescription on what to think about wrong actions would have no place.

We also have to yield our bodies to doing good things. Give yourself to the study of the Bible, yield your body to join other believers in worship, yield your body to prayer, fasting, and help the needy. As you give yourself to doing things that honour God, you will always receive the ability to do that which honours God.

You are dead to sin, so yield your members to the things of God. Use your tongue to reject wrong suggestions or feelings that impress on your mind. Say no to anything that opposes the way of God. Say yes to God’s way.

CONFESSION
I am dedicated to God and His way. I yield my whole being to whatever the spirit says. My life is a revelation of God’s glory.

DEAD TO THE LAW

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 2:19For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God”.

Apostle Paul once again reveals a truth that is an answer to the struggle of many people. In the key scripture, he states that through the law, he is dead to the law that he might live unto God. This statement expresses his victory over sin as a result of the weakness of the flesh. What is the law in the context of our key scripture? The law is God’s righteous demand for all men to fulfil. Why do we need to be dead to the law? Now, although the law is right men are slaves to sin, so the righteous law exposes the weakness of men fully and makes them very helpless before the law.

In Romans chapter seven, he reveals the great struggle of many who have not come to terms with the reality of the gospel. Apostle Paul in Romans 7 shows how sin taking advantage of the commandment or the law slew him. Romans 7:11For sin taking occasion by the commandment of the law, deceived me and by it slew me”. From here, he went on to state the fact that the law is holy and just, but it slew him. Why did that which is holy just make him a slave? The answer is that sin was alive in him, and therefore, the law only exposed his weakness, which has always been there. He lamented that the good things he wanted to do, he was not able to do them, but the wrong things that he dislikes that he commits. He further asked the following question in Romans 7:24 and finally exclaimed “O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Are you at your wit’s end? The answer is in the gospel of our Lord Jesus. In the gospel, we find the grace of God. The Lord Jesus was delivered for our offences (Romans 4:25). This means he died for us and in our name. His death also meant the condemnation of sin in our flesh. Romans 8:3 “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.” The death of our Lord Jesus meant the destruction of the power of sin in our flesh (Romans 6:6). If you have believed in Jesus, then sin’s power through the law is destroyed, and therefore, you are free. In effect, your old man is dead to the law, and the new man is alive unto God.

Don’t accept the power of sin over your life. In Christ, the sin question is answered. Jesus died not only to forgive our sins but also to break the power of sin over our lives.

CONFESSION
I am crucified with Jesus. This means I am dead to the sin, and it has no power over me. I now live unto God in righteousness and true holiness.

PARTICIPATING IN THE LORD’S ONENESS

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 1:9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Our key scripture is one of the amazing insights that Apostle Paul received through the Holy Spirit. He said God is faithful by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

This verse on face value may look like our fellowship with our Lord Jesus is in the sense of the devotion that may exist between us and Him. Well, this fellowship goes beyond praying to Him, It is sharing or participating in the Honeness with our Lord Jesus. The scripture says this is what we have been called into or appointed to be. He begins by saying that God is faithful. His faithfulness ensures that everything that is concerned with this fellowship between us and the Son of God is established. The word fellowship has the following meanings, association, community, communion, joint participation, and intercourse. It also means to share that which one has in anything.

In 1st Corinthians 6:17, the Holy Spirit brings forth the meaning of the word fellowship more clearly. It reads “He that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit”. We have been called into oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ. This makes us partakers of whatever He the Lord is and has. This is the mystery of Christianity. It is a call to be one with Jesus Christ. This oneness is not by our efforts or making. It is purely an act of God’s grace. Something that God did through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 2:10For it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things in bringing many sons unto glory…”. Our Lord Jesus Christ through His death has brought everyone who has believed in Him into glory. That is fellowship with Him.

Apostle Paul rightly hits on this in Ephesians 3:8 as follows “Unto me who am less than the least of all saints is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ”. This unsearchable riches is discovered in our oneness with Him or our fellowship with Jesus. Our key scripture assures us that God is faithful and ensures that everything within this union is enforced.
John 15 reveals clearly our oneness or fellowship with the Lord Jesus in the parable of the Vine and the branches, the father is described as the husbandman or caretaker. He ensures that all we need to be fruitful is made available. Dear child of God, you have every provision to live presently on this earth like our LORD JESUS. Throw away all human traditions and act on the word of God. Act in His name, and the faithful Father will always honour your actions.

HOW TO PRAY RIGHTLY FOR CHRISTIANS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

A very vital part of the spiritual warfare is praying for all Christians. The enemy has the advantage when the church is divided and weak. A strong United Church means Strong individual members.

Apostle Paul in almost all of his epistles prayed for the churches. He longed to see all the churches grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord.

The following are some of the prayer points He prayed for the churches and we could also learn from them and pray likewise for fellow believers worldwide.

1st Corinthians 1:6-8

Pray that the testimony of Christ may be confirmed in the brethren.
Pray that the Christians come behind in no gift as they wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray that they would be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (that is at His coming).

Ephesians 1:15-19

Continue to thank God for the life of all saints.
Ask that our Heavenly Father will give unto the saints the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.
Pray that their eyes of understanding would be flooded with light, that they may know what the hope of their calling is.
Pray that they may also know what is the riches of the glory of Christ’s inheritance in the saints.
Pray that they may also know the exceeding greatness of His power to them which believe, which is according to the working of His mighty power which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.

Ephesians 3:14-19

Pray that God would, out of His riches of His glory, strengthen all believers with might by His Spirit in the inner man.
Pray that Christ will dwell in their hearts by faith
Pray that they would be rooted and grounded in love.
Pray that they would comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height of the love of God.
Pray that they would know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, and that they would be filled with all the fullness of God

Philippians 1:9-11

Pray that the love of Christians would abound more and more.
Pray that their love will also abound in knowledge and in all judgement.
Pray that they may approve of things that are excellent.
Pray that they may be sincere and live without offence till the day of Christ.
Pray that they would be filled with the fruits of righteousness through our Lord Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.

The above prayer points are some of the prayer points we could be praying for fellow Christians and ourselves as well. These are scriptural and are of the Spirit. The need to pray for fellow believers is essential in these last days that Satan had vomited every kind of unclean thing to deceive and to defile.

PRAYER

I pray the spirit of the Lord will stir in the hearts of all believers a strong desire to intercede for one another and to do it scripturally in the name of the Lord Jesus I have prayed. Amen.

SPEAK THE WORD 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:17 KJV “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of GOD

The mouth is the main organ in the human body used mainly to apply the sword of the Spirit. The mouth is called in Greek ‘Stoma’ which is interpreted as the edge of a weapon. If the word of God is the sword of the Spirit, then our mouth, described in Greek as the edge of a weapon, must mainly say God’s word for a victorious life. Your mouth is a weapon to release the weapon of the spirit, the word of God. Failure to use it that way is your failure and defeat in life.

An example of the right application of the word of God was when David encountered Goliath. (1st Samuel 17) David began by speaking to the people around him so that he could go and kill the Giant and take off the reproach from Israel. King Saul heard it, yet David kept declaring that he would go and defeat the giant. Applying the sword means speaking consistently to express absolute confidence in God.

When he met Goliath, Goliath started cursing David by his gods, and David responded by saying I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defiled. He added, “This day God will deliver you into mine hands.” Every life conflict is warfare, and it is won in terms of how positively you can use the word of God. David kept speaking and declaring what God would do. He said, “All the assembly shall know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into my hands.

David did not plan to speak that way but spoke as an overflow of his relationship and faith in God. Take time to build your confidence in God. In every life, conflict expresses that confidence by declaring that God is in control and will make everything turn out to his glory. Never say anything that shows weakness on the part of God. This dishonours Him and hinders God’s hands from coming through for you. Remember, the battle is the Lord’s and you are a representative of God. At that instant, speak on His behalf so He would do what only He can do. You can’t do that miraculous act, so give God the opportunity by saying He will do it and then act like He is about to do it.

CONFESSION

GOD’S word in my mouth is my sword to cut the enemy to size. I speak out the word, always declaring God’s power and victory over every life conflict. All situations, no matter how difficult they seem, always bow to the authority of the word.
