LOVE STRENGTHENS FAITH

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 5:6. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Our key scripture establishes one basic fact, that, observing the works of the law by one’s effort does not meet God’s approval, but trusting in the Lord to work through you. Circumcision is an act that comes from the effort or works of an Individual, yet faith is not in works but trust in God.

Man by nature likes to do more than to trust. In the garden of Eden God made man like Himself (Gen 1:26-28). They did not need to do any more things to remain that way, but only to trust the word of God and keep pleasing God always. The Bible said when the devil through the serpent told them there was something to do to become like God, they chose to stop believing in God and to eat of the tree. They fell out of faith in God. It is faith that works by love. That is what matters unto God. These two virtues are most important to God. Faith relates more to God, while love relates more to God and our fellow man.

Our heavenly Father wants our actions to be motivated mostly by our faith in Him through our love for Him and our fellow men. Faith in God is strengthened by our love for God. Faith is the force that unites us to God. Faith is God working through a man. Faith is strong in our hearts when love for God is also very strong. 1st John 4:17 “Herein is our love made perfect that we may have boldness in the day of judgement…..”. Having boldness in the day of judgment is a demonstration of our faith. In light of this, if our faith should be strong, our love should be stronger. In light of this, help your faith by focusing on the great love the Father loves us.

Faith takes hold of all that Jesus is and has done. This is what matters in our relationship with God. Human effort or human abilities can not meet God’s requirements. Our key scripture says circumcision or non-circumcision does not matter. These things refer to what men do rather than believing in God. There are several Christians who show outward gestures like giving long religious prayers, putting up religious expressions when fasting and many more. These things are done to attract people’s attention. All these are human efforts not based on trust in God to be justified by Him.

The Christian experience is only acceptable before God when the Spirit of God is the one acting or doing the work through us. It is faith in God that makes the Spirit work through us.

One may preach but with a mind to attract attention to himself or herself. This is of the flesh. Some sing in churches to show how good they can sing. All these have nothing to do with faith. God is not involved with anything, not of faith. Faith always seeks God’s honour, not man’s.

CONFESSION

Everything I do, I do to honour God, and it is done by faith. I do nothing to attract men to myself. All is done to bring glory to Him.

WALK IN THE SPIRIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: Galatians 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Our key scripture is one of the amazing revelations that the Holy Spirit gave to us. It says all Christians have relocated into the Spirit. They no longer live in the flesh but in the Spirit. (Romans 8:9) “But ye are not in the flesh but in the spirit. If so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you…” The Bible calls this life in the spirit as in Christ.

The dwelling place of the Christian is ‘ in Christ’. We live in the Spirit by our spirit which is one with the Spirit of Christ. (1st Corinthians 6:17). Romans 8:10 says “And if Christ be in you the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness”. A Christian is not a man or a woman of the flesh. It is the Spirit in Him that leads and rules him.

Our key scripture says “If we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit”. In the New Testament Greek language from which the New Testament was translated, there are several translations in the Greek given to the word “walk” depending on the intended meaning carried by the context of the message. In our key scripture, the word in Greek is “stoicheo” from which the word “stoic”. This word means strong, rigid, firm, and disciplined. The word walk therefore means “to proceed in a row as the march of soldiers, or go in an orderly manner”.

To walk in the Spirit therefore means to be disciplined and go in a strict order of the Spirit. There is no grounds for personal considerations. Every step must be in the path the spirit goes. One may ask, what is the practical way to walk in the Spirit? This question is answered in the following scripture. Romans 8:5 “For they that are after the flesh do MIND the things of the flesh; but they that are after in the spirit the things of the spirit”. The state of your mind determines where you are, whether the flesh or Spirit. The things of the Spirit are simply what the word of God talks about. When your mind is filled with the word of God and your considerations and desires are to honour what the word says, then you are in the Spirit.

To walk in the Spirit is to do what the word of God says. Living a life of faith is walking in the Spirit. This is the place of true liberty and peace.

CONFESSION

I live in the Spirit and walk in the Spirit. I live above the dictates and influences of this world and the flesh. My life continually experiences God’s peace blessings and prosperity in Jesus’ name.

OBEY THE WORD OF GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

The last action word for us to consider as we look at how to live a victorious life is “obey“.

Obedience is to bring yourself under a regulation, instruction or command so that you do as directed. Obedience is always initiated by humility. Humility is an inner decision to do what God asks you to do.
As you obey the word you build a resistance to sin. The more you do the word, the more sin can’t influence you. Obedience is the doorway to divine approval. It is also access to a divine encounter. Obedience is the consummation of one’s beliefs. Until you act on what you claim, you believe you have not believed.

James 2:26 says the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead. Act on the word of God. Many Christians complain about how weak they are. They ask how I can become a strong Christian. To be a strong Christian, simply obey the instructions of scripture. If the Bible asks you to stop a habit, quickly stop it. There are certain things that may not be sinful act in themselves, but they may be weights to prevent you from taking wide strides in your journey. An example is watching television for hours. It may not be a sinful act, but it deems your light and gradually quenches your fire. To obey the Lord, just stop them.

Many people keep praying, asking the Lord to make them obey. Obedience is acting on what the word says. Philippians 2:13 says
For it is God which works in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure”. God is already at work in you both to will and to do. Please know that you have a superior power available within you. Just do as the word says and it will not be by your ability but by His ability. How do we work miracles in our lives? Miracles are divine acts or deeds that he works as we act on his word. Anytime we receive an instruction and obey or act on it a supernatural power takes over our human faculties.

All you need is the decision to follow up with the instructions. The moment you stay with the word to do it, God’s strength takes over and you do the particular thing not by your ability but God’s strength. Just act on the word.

CONFESSION

Obedience to God in all things is the simple way to know Him on a more personal level. I always do what He says. I experience His presence and power as I honour his word in my life.
Obedience to God’s word gives Him the access to function through me

YIELD YOURSELF UNTO GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

The next action word to consider is yield. The word yield in the Greek language means to stand beside or to place beside. In our modern language, it means to present, provide or make available.

This point is very vital in our call to stay away from sin and live unto righteousness. Romans 12:1 reads “I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
The scripture asks us to give up ourselves unto God. We must present our lives in trust to the Lord.

We must not give ourselves to the wrong appetites of our flesh. Romans 8:10 says “If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin…” The body should not be your master or leader. Give this body over to the Lord.

The first part of our body to be yielded unto the Lord is our mind. The mind is the steering wheel of the body. What occupies the mind controls and directs the body. Yield the mind unto the word of God. Let the considerations and meditations of the mind continually be on the word of God.
Satan and his demons know very well that if they can take over the mind, they can control the rest of the body and make it do what they want. Yield your mind by thinking about scriptural things. Philippians 4:8 says “Finally my brethren whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on these things
If children of God would only yield their minds to the above prescription on what to think about wrong actions would have no place.

We also have to yield our bodies to doing good things. Give yourself to the study of the Bible, yield your body to join other believers in worship, yield your body to prayer, fasting, and help the needy. As you give yourself to doing things that honour God, you will always receive the ability to do that which honours God.

You are dead to sin, so yield your members to the things of God. Use your tongue to reject wrong suggestions or feelings that impress on your mind. Say no to anything that opposes the way of God. Say yes to God’s way.

CONFESSION
I am dedicated to God and His way. I yield my whole being to whatever the spirit says. My life is a revelation of God’s glory.

RECKON YOURSELF DEAD TO SIN

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

In our previous study, we looked at the first action to take so we could live above the demands of sin.

I wish to make a few points proceeding out of the previous study clear. We learnt that because we died with Jesus the body of sin was destroyed and therefore sin no longer lives in us. The question that many would ask is, why are we tempted or even have the desire to Sin as Christians? I would answer this question by taking us to the time of Adam and Eve. Before Adam and Eve sinned, did they have any sinful nature? The answer is no, yet they were tempted and sinned against God.

Their state was like the present state of the Christians. The challenge is that we live in a body made from the earth. This earthly body has appetites and desires relating to its source. The urge to satisfy these appetites, may not have any spiritual or negative influence but because our bodies are of the earth, we would go for the things of this earth.

Our Lord Jesus did not have any sinful nature in him, yet he got hungry after He fasted because He had an earthly body. It was His relationship to the Father and the understanding He had coupled with His decision to honour God always that put Him in a state never to sin, no matter the temptation.

Please let us take the scripture as the Bible reveals it. In our crucifixion with Jesus, the body of sin is destroyed. The body of sin no longer resides in you. Colossians 2:11 says “In whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands in putting of the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Jesus”. In this instant, the Bible teaches that through the crucifixion with Jesus, the body of the sins of the flesh has been put off.

Dear child of God you don’t have the nature of sin in your flesh now. Don’t think of yourself as a sinner. Every desire and urge to do wrong may either be your flesh yearning for something wrong or a demon stirring up that wrong desire in you.

In this light, our key scripture comes into play. It reads
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord”.
To reckon means to count it as truth. Settle it in your heart that you are truly dead to sin. This means, you have no business with sin, rather you are alive unto God, by responding favourably to what He says.

Let your mind come to such a decision and consciousness. After knowing, you must acknowledge and accept that you are indeed dead unto sin but alive unto God.

CONFESSION

I am crucified with Jesus and I know as a certainty that I am dead to sin but alive unto God. Sin cannot rule over me.

PARTICIPATING IN THE LORD’S ONENESS

KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 1:9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Our key scripture is one of the amazing insights that Apostle Paul received through the Holy Spirit. He said God is faithful by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

This verse on face value may look like our fellowship with our Lord Jesus is in the sense of the devotion that may exist between us and Him. Well, this fellowship goes beyond praying to Him, It is sharing or participating in the Honeness with our Lord Jesus. The scripture says this is what we have been called into or appointed to be. He begins by saying that God is faithful. His faithfulness ensures that everything that is concerned with this fellowship between us and the Son of God is established. The word fellowship has the following meanings, association, community, communion, joint participation, and intercourse. It also means to share that which one has in anything.

In 1st Corinthians 6:17, the Holy Spirit brings forth the meaning of the word fellowship more clearly. It reads “He that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit”. We have been called into oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ. This makes us partakers of whatever He the Lord is and has. This is the mystery of Christianity. It is a call to be one with Jesus Christ. This oneness is not by our efforts or making. It is purely an act of God’s grace. Something that God did through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 2:10For it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things in bringing many sons unto glory…”. Our Lord Jesus Christ through His death has brought everyone who has believed in Him into glory. That is fellowship with Him.

Apostle Paul rightly hits on this in Ephesians 3:8 as follows “Unto me who am less than the least of all saints is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ”. This unsearchable riches is discovered in our oneness with Him or our fellowship with Jesus. Our key scripture assures us that God is faithful and ensures that everything within this union is enforced.
John 15 reveals clearly our oneness or fellowship with the Lord Jesus in the parable of the Vine and the branches, the father is described as the husbandman or caretaker. He ensures that all we need to be fruitful is made available. Dear child of God, you have every provision to live presently on this earth like our LORD JESUS. Throw away all human traditions and act on the word of God. Act in His name, and the faithful Father will always honour your actions.

CONFESSIONS.

I have been called into oneness with my Lord Jesus to manifest His power and authority to lead a victorious life. My life reveals His glory and power, conquering sin and diseases in Jesus’ name.

HOW TO PRAY RIGHTLY FOR CHRISTIANS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

A very vital part of the spiritual warfare is praying for all Christians. The enemy has the advantage when the church is divided and weak. A strong United Church means Strong individual members.

Apostle Paul in almost all of his epistles prayed for the churches. He longed to see all the churches grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord.

The following are some of the prayer points He prayed for the churches and we could also learn from them and pray likewise for fellow believers worldwide.

1st Corinthians 1:6-8

Pray that the testimony of Christ may be confirmed in the brethren.
Pray that the Christians come behind in no gift as they wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray that they would be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (that is at His coming).

Ephesians 1:15-19

Continue to thank God for the life of all saints.
Ask that our Heavenly Father will give unto the saints the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.
Pray that their eyes of understanding would be flooded with light, that they may know what the hope of their calling is.
Pray that they may also know what is the riches of the glory of Christ’s inheritance in the saints.
Pray that they may also know the exceeding greatness of His power to them which believe, which is according to the working of His mighty power which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.

Ephesians 3:14-19

Pray that God would, out of His riches of His glory, strengthen all believers with might by His Spirit in the inner man.
Pray that Christ will dwell in their hearts by faith
Pray that they would be rooted and grounded in love.
Pray that they would comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height of the love of God.
Pray that they would know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, and that they would be filled with all the fullness of God

Philippians 1:9-11

Pray that the love of Christians would abound more and more.
Pray that their love will also abound in knowledge and in all judgement.
Pray that they may approve of things that are excellent.
Pray that they may be sincere and live without offence till the day of Christ.
Pray that they would be filled with the fruits of righteousness through our Lord Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.

The above prayer points are some of the prayer points we could be praying for fellow Christians and ourselves as well. These are scriptural and are of the Spirit. The need to pray for fellow believers is essential in these last days that Satan had vomited every kind of unclean thing to deceive and to defile.

PRAYER

I pray the spirit of the Lord will stir in the hearts of all believers a strong desire to intercede for one another and to do it scripturally in the name of the Lord Jesus I have prayed. Amen.

BE AN INTERCESSOR FOR ALL CHRISTIANS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

In part “b” of the key scripture the apostle admonishes all believers to maintain a habit of praying for all Christians. He says they must watch there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

The church is a body of believers. We form a mighty army fighting on behalf of our master on the earth to manifest His glory by bearing fruits of righteousness and saving souls for heaven. The church is not only the congregation you belong to. It is the body of all believers in Jesus our Lord worldwide. Satanic onslaught is against the church as a whole. As much as he attacks individuals his prime motive is to weaken the bigger body so it will not be effective in its core mandate.

When you realise believers are not passionate about winning the lost, then there is a need for persistent prayers for the church. When various denominations compete with each other about how big their congregations are, or how big their church building is, then there is a great need for intercession. It becomes more serious when the church becomes lukewarm, Christian’s are worldlier and a desire for a holy life is very remote to a number of Christians.

The call to be watchful, that is stay up and not to sleep so you would pray for the church is very vital. He said we must persevere in our prayers for the saints. Why persevere? Because it is one of the areas the devil fears so much is when Christians start praying for one another. Most believers have become so selfish. ‘ It is me and my church or worse still me and my family.’

Dear child of God, God our Father does not see His body as a divided people, but one body. It is we men who see ourselves as different groupings. Before God, it is one big body. The need for a strong, body committed to its call mandate is necessary. The Lord desires that the church would be a ready bride that is awaiting His coming without spot or wrinkle. Stop looking down on other denominations. Stop saying “This or that church is weak.” “That so called weak church is that one big body with that weak part and needs strengthening.” Make it your task to seek the Lord’s face till His fire comes upon them all, so we will have that one strong body of believers.

PRAYER

O God our Father open our eyes to know and understand your passion for a well and strong body of saints, conquering the forces of darkness to lift high your banner in these last days. Touch our hearts to intercede for one another till we see that change you desire for your body.

PRAY WITH ALL PRAYER

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

We are instructed to pray always with all prayer in the Spirit. The word ‘in” is translated from the Greek word “EN” which could mean ‘in’, ‘by’ or ‘with’. The scripture is asking us to pray with all prayer by the ability or with the agency of the Spirit.

He asks us to pray with all prayer.

There are various kinds of prayer. These include:

The prayer of faith
The prayer of intercession
The prayer of supplication
The travailing prevailing prayer.
The prayer of consecration or commitment
The prayer of agreement
The prayer of praise and worship
United prayer

These are various kinds of prayers, having specific ways for their operations (You may refer to our series of teachings from March 2017).

We are called to pray all kinds of prayer in the Spirit or with the Spirit. According to 1st Corinthians 14:14, we pray with the Spirit by praying in tongues. Some have also explained that praying in the Spirit is praying according to the word of God. Well, whatever is done according to the word of God in faith is by or in the Spirit. Praying in tongues is a direct way to allow the Holy Spirit to voice out various requests and touch on important areas that the natural mind cannot know or deal with.

Some people easily speak against praying in tongues because they do not understand what is said, so it does not make sense to them. This is most unfortunate. Dear child of God please get this basic principle in relating with God straight. You do not relate to God based on reason or understanding. According to 1st Corinthians 1:21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe”. Dear child of God, pray a lot in tongues for other brethren and yourself as well. The Bible clearly states that when a man speaks in tongues, he does not understand what he says, but in the Spirit, he speaks mysteries. (1st Corinthians 14:2). These mysteries are matters that are hidden from the natural mind but very vital and on the right issues to be prayed on.

PRAYER

Lord, I pray for all believers that they may stand strong and fulfil their call mandates in their lifetimes. May they approve of things that are excellent and bear the fruits of righteousness unto the appearing of our Lord Jesus? In Jesus’ name, I have prayed.

PRAY ALWAYS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

In our key scripture, the Holy Spirit tells us to employ prayer as a vital part of the spiritual war. He did not give any specific symbol within the armour but gave us clearly how we must approach this great act of praying.

He said prayer must be made always. Prayer is indispensable for the Christian. Prayer gives God access to intervene in the affairs of men. Prayer creates a channel for the divine to fully impact the natural. In Luke 18:1 the Bible reported our Lord Jesus said the following to the disciples “And He spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint”. The emphasis is on praying always and not to give up. As men, we would continually have to rely on God to conquer the wicked unseen adversaries.

Our Lord Jesus kept a consistent prayer life. He was so committed to His prayers that His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. Apostle Paul wrote to the brethren in Rome and said the following “Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulations, continuing instant in prayer.Romans 12:12.

A consistent praying Christian will have a successful life. Persistence in prayer is a sign of one’s faith in the Lord. The Lord asked after talking about the need to persist in prayer, the following question. “…. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh shall he find faith on the earth?Luke 18:8

One major attack of the devil on a lot of Christians is to occupy them with all kinds of concerns. They get so occupied such that they just don’t know how to maintain a consistent prayer life. The worst people are those who are so busy working for God, and yet they do not have enough time to wait in the presence of the Father. Some are so busy preaching, meeting people, counselling, and visiting, and yet they will not have the time to pray. Dear child of God, this is extremely dangerous. The Lord is your strength. The Lord is your guide and guard. Your main access to all these is prayer. In Mark 3:14 the Bible said “And he ordained twelve that they should be with Him and that he might send them forth to preach”.

Your calling is to first be with the Lord before you are sent forth to work for Him.

Don’t put the cart before the horse. It is prayer, prayer and prayer before the rest would come.

CONFESSION
I pray always. I do not allow anything to take the place of prayer in my life. I am strengthened in my prayer, guarded and guided, all in prayer.
