KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Timothy 2:15 ” Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
Scriptural revelation is progressive. This means as time went by in the bible era God dealt differently with His children. God has dealt with various generations in very special ways called dispensations. The following are the dispensations that has existed from creation to the end of time.
- Dispensation of innocence – Edenic covenant.
- Dispensation of conscience – Adamic covenant.
- Dispensation of Human Government – Noahic covenant.
- Patriarchal Dispensation – Abrahamic covenant.
- Dispensation of the law – Mosaic covenant.
- Dispensation of Grace – New covenant
- Dispensation of God’s kingdom – Everlasting covenant.
Most of the Old Testament era were written under the dispensation of the law: This is also called the old covenant or the Mosaic covenant. Under this covenant God dealt with His people on the bases of works and their ability to obey the law.
Note: the bible remains one whole book. The truths of scripture were only made clearer by subsequent dispensations. Every aspect of biblical revelation may be applicable depending on whether newer or more light has been given over that particular one.
The dispensation of Grace or the New Covenant, which was effected after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, brought more insight into our relationship with the Father.
The dispensation of grace offers us a relationship with the Father based on the finished work of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection… We relate to Him fully on the perfection of Christ. It is in bad taste to pray and say “O God I am weak and have no helper and so help me”. When you pray this way you are. Right, yet you could do it better by acting on scripture that says “….. I will never leave thee nor forsake thee, so that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:5b, 6). Under the old covenant we may find prayers that talk about how helpless one was, yet in the new covenant you never become helpless. God lives inside of you.
You do no justice to the word when you pray that “O God be with me in all my troubles”. Such statement seriously compromises the truth of the scripture that says “. I will be with you always even unto the end of the age”. (Matt 28:20)
“Pray this way, “I know you are always with me”. In this way your faith would be agile to overcome all oppositions..
God is my Father, and through Jesus I have a glorious relationship with Him. I relate with Him as Father and Son , anything less than that, compromises his provisions and I reject that.
John 11:41b-42 . “……And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of…
