KEY SCRIPTURE:1 Samuel 15:26. “And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel”.
Prophet Samuel the man of God said to Saul after he had requested that Samuel turn to him so he could worship the Lord, that so long as he had rejected the word of God, God has also rejected him. Saul had not settled his issue with God yet wanted an audience with him. There are some people who show acts of insubordination in church A and they just decide to join church B without settling the issues in church A. It is the same God you have sinned against; going to church B does not take away the sin. Such people join the new church and initially everything seems normal yet in a short moment of time things begin working against them. Settle issues wherever you are, before leaving. Saul needed to settle the issues with God and not just to be accepted by Samuel.
The next point of interest here is the high premium God places on His word. To ignore and not to honour the word means you have stood in His face and said “to hell with your words”, it is a great offence against Him because. It is not just an act of defiling yourself, you have also challenged the authority of his throne.
The Bible said in 1st Samuel 15:27 that as Samuel turned to go, Saul held his garment, which got torn. Then Samuel said to Saul,” the Lord God has rent the kingdom from your hands and given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou”.
God will never run out of men to serve him. Never feel you are indispensable. Jesus said in Matthew 3:9 “. And think not to say within yourselves, we have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.”
Dear child of God, who have been appointed to play certain roles in God’s house; what do you have that was not given to you? Serve God with fear and trembling. God can raise a new person from the most unlikely place.
Saul continued to demonstrated his self-centredness. He said in 1st Samuel 15:30 “Then he said, I have sinned yet honor me now, i pray thee before the elders of my people, and before Israel….”. Saul’s concern was not God who had despised him but to be honoured before the Elders of his people and from Israel. It was not the people that was his problem. His problem was a lack of knowledge of who God was, based on an undue self-love. This is the real cause of failure for many who serve God, especially those who have attained some level of high public recognition because of what God’s Spirit uses them to do. Pray always that this self would not get in the way between you and the Lord. Amen
Father I pray for all leaders to know you and free themselves from self-love to rather love you above all things.
1 Samuel 15:35. And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless, Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
