KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:32 KJV” But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”
We continue with our discussion on the topic of divorce and remarriage. In our last study we asked a few questions which point to very serious eternal consequences. We realized that one could lose his salvation and end up in hell if he or she persisted with breaking their marriage and remarried. I wish to say that, the fact that a number of people have divorced and remarried, and are living normal lives does not mean God has changed his word. THE SCRIPTURE CANNOT BE BROKEN. For example, if half the population of the world was to be involved in homosexual marriages, that cannot make it right or change what God has said about it. Lev 18:22 KJV “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”. The general acceptance of divorce as a normal way of life does not change what Jesus said that, it is unacceptable, if done outside the clause of fornication.
Let’s come to some practical issues. What does one do when he has a very stubborn or difficult wife? What about the lady who has a difficult problem causing husband? There are cases that the life of a partner in marriage may be in danger by virtue of either the man’s actions or the woman. On this ground there may be a separation according to the scripture. 1Corinth 7:11 KJV” But and if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
” Please note that the Lord added although there may be separation, there should not be a putting away, or a divorce. Dear brother or sister the present spate of divorce clearly reveals our world is out of the will of God. One may ask, can there be a divorce when there is no marital unfaithfulness. I believe there may be. (The Roman Catholic church does not acknowledge certain marriages, when one party conceals a vital truth that should have been made known).
Now let’s consider the following thought. When one has certain challenges in life, for example a problem son, does he or she not pray till there comes a solution. Why would you put away your wife or your husband at the slightest problem they may pose? The real problem is that, people have trivialized divorce so much that, they easily call for it at the slightest difficulty. Let it be settled in your mind that DIVORCE is not an option. Let Pastors preach it till, it catches up with the body of Christ. This will also mean; people have to take time to enter into marriage knowing what God has said about divorce. Dear child of God, God has assured us of His readiness to answer prayer. We need patience, faith and persistency in prayers to overcome certain challenges posed by certain partners, till they see God bring answers. (DEMONS do attack marriages a lot).
PRAYER
Father I pray for all couples to learn to trust in you. Let the church accept the seriousness of divorce, so it would be avoided for peace to prevail among your children.
