KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 14:2 (KJV). “And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.”
Herod the Tetrarch was a son of Herod the Great. Herod the tetrarch means he reign over a quarter of his father’s kingdom. Herod had beheaded John the Baptist, so after hearing about the many miraculous feat by our Lord Jesus, he said the following “And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.” — Matthew 14:2 (KJV) What he said was not the truth. It was a baseless lie yet it could have been believed and carried around by others, why? Because it was said by no ordinary person, but the very king of Judea.
On many occasions people have spread all kinds of baseless deceit about our Lord Jesus, which has even succeeded in overthrowing the faith of some people. The Bible tells us to be aware of such things. “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” — Colossians 2:8 (KJV). There are some of the deceptions which are only philosophical. Some are just based on vain or empty deceit.
There is a group that goes around saying Jesus is a myth. This means the message about our Lord Jesus was just imagined by somebody and put forth there to appear it really happened. This thing is one of the vain deceits that is deceiving some very simple ones. Myths like fables cannot have real places, where the events happened. The story of Jesus has presently the town of Nazareth, Bethlehem, Judea and real places where the events took place. The persons involved in the story also gave their reports and comments about what happened. Just listen to what Peter wrote about him. “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”- 2 Peter 1:16 (KJV). He said I was an eyewitness of his majesty. John the apostle also said we have seen, heard and handled concerning the word of life. (1 John 1:1-3). Please note all these men who claimed they witnessed Jesus’ resurrection died (or killed) for what they knew was true. Jesus is not a myth; He is real and alive today.
There are those who claim the Bible was written by some Europeans to deceive Africans and the world at large. How could this be? There Bible have evidence of existing manuscripts in Hebrew and Aramaic for the Old Testament and in Greek for the New Testament. There was the discovery of the dead sea scrolls which contained vivid portions of the Old Testament, dating back to a thousand years before Christ.
The greatest evidence of the validity of the Bible and our Lord Jesus is the power to transform lives in every part of the globe where the message is preached and men accept or believe it. You can also be saved, healed and set free to live a meaningful life, if you would believe in Jesus.
CONFESSION
