KEY SCRIPTURE: John 4:39 KJV” And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.”
John testified in his account that, the Samaritan woman went to her townsfolks and testified about all Jesus said about her. She did not go about giving a long sermon, but just talked about the change that has come to her through her encounter with Jesus. Personal testimony is one of the very powerful means of communicating the gospel. When she talked to them about her encounter with Jesus, many believed and followed her to the master. The amazing truth is that everyone who has been genuinely converted has a personal testimony.
Personal testimonies can be used by the man who may not be so much vested in the word of God or anyone who has a very compelling testimony. Remember PROOFS CANNOT BE DENIED.
Personal testimonies may be presented in three main stages
1. Your life before Christ.
2. Your encounter with Christ
3. The changes after surrendering to Jesus.
An example of a personal testimony used in sharing the gospel can be found in Acts 26:9-28
Now the break down into the three segments are as follows:
1.His life before Christ Acts 26:9-12 Here he talked about how he violently persecuted the church. He even obtained authority from the chief priests to go and drag the Christians to be killed or imprisoned.
2. His encounter with Jesus. Acts 26:13-18
He talked about how Jesus met him on the road to Damascus. The mystery light that hit his eyes, which also blinded him, commissioning to send the gospel to the Gentile world.
3. The change of life after the encounter with Jesus. He talked about his quick response to the call and his subsequent commitment to the call.
Paul after his personal experience introduced Christ as Saviour who suffered, died and resurrected to show light unto all people (Acts 26:23).
King Agrippa hearing all this said to Paul, you almost persuaded me to be a Christian. Beloved personal testimonies are extremely powerful to communicate the good news. As you go about talking to people you may share personal testimony if led to do so. To those who might not have had any deeper knowledge of the scriptures then your personal testimonies would do a great deal. This week find a friend or anyone and share with him or her your personal testimony.
THOUGHT: ONE MAY ARGUE WITH A TEACHING, BUT YOU CANNOT ARGUE WITH AN EVIDENCE
