KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:69 KJV “And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”
It beats my imagination to see an individual who claims to be a Christian, only to come out saying he no longer follows Jesus or has joined another faith. There are two main explanations to this occurrence.
This individual might have known the Lord, but through neglect of practicing his faith, he gradually drifted off like a drifting canoe which has not been anchored to the shore, or he did not know the Lord and through some turbulence of life events, or some teaching which convinced him, against the truth of God’s word, because of his poor knowledge of the scriptures.
Jesus is real, alive and most powerful. Many in our era have encountered him physically.
Everyone who has been genuinely born again has encountered Him, through the peace He gives, the transformation of life He brings, and the many mysterious answers to prayer He does always for us.
Apostle Peter speaking on behalf of the twelve said “And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. (John 6:69). What was the grounds on which Peter and the rest of the twelve disciples stood to come to such a conclusion?
They had followed him, heard him teach, heard him made statements that revealed His supremacy over all things. Seen Him work miracles that no one ever did. All these made them to conclude that He is the Messiah. According to John 8:31,32 they diligently followed and knew the truth which set them free.
Now after these men found the truth about Jesus, they had to decide to accept the truth.
One could be opened up to certain truths yet He may refuse to accept it.
Many people get to know the bare truths about Jesus, yet out of pride refuse to surrender to him
From their example what must we do to come into such knowledge of our Lord Jesus?
Seek Him diligently. Jeremiah 29:13 KJV.” And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
The Lord has no business with those who are not ready for Him. Jesus did not reveal himself to the chief priest and Pharisees when He rose from the dead. They would not have believed in Him. He showed Himself alive to His disciples.
As the disciples followed Him you must do likewise, through prayer, studying His word, fasting, and acting on every instruction He gives you. As you do these things you would encounter Him in various instances. He may visit you as He visited me when I went on a prayer and fasting retreat.
Please note this, no one can know God until He decides to reveal Himself to you, yet He reveals Himself to those who search for Him with all their heart.
After you have known and experienced so much about Him, settle it once and for all in your heart that He is the Christ the Son of the living God.
