KEY SCRIPTURE: Joh 14:12 KJV “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
In John 13:16, the Lord Jesus said categorically that, the servant is not greater than his master, neither is he that is sent greater than he that sent him. Although the Lord made this statement, He said in the next chapter that, he that believes in Him will do greater works than He did, because He was going to the Father. Now if the servant is not greater than his master, how would that same servant do greater works than his master? Every good master seeks that his followers do more or they should carry the ministry further than where they did. Secondly, the achievement of the servant can never make him greater than his master, for whatever he does is depending on the works of His master. In any case the servant can do a greater work if he takes a good advantage of how his master worked and do more.
The Lord indeed wants us to do more than He did, yet all these depend on how we would work more than He worked. He even said He would work with us. He said anytime we ask or make a demand for a condition to change He would personally effect that change. John 14:13 KJV” And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” The Lord is fully ready to back us do exploits for Him. I believe, if we are to do the greater works He desires and talked about, then we must first decide to believe that, He really wants us to do that greater works, and also it is possible to achieve that much for Him.
Secondly, we must learn from His approach to everything. The Lord had uncompromising stands on pleasing the Father. He was never ready for a second to do anything that was contrary to the Father’s wish.
Thirdly He was so much in touch with the Father, and so knew whatever the Father wanted Him to do. This is a very high point if we really want to do greater works.
Jesus said, if anyone would be His disciple, He must hate himself, his parents, siblings, and his own children, (Lk 14:26) then would he or she be qualified to be His disciple and be in that position to do that much exploits. The above are the criteria that would propel one into doing the greater works. The Lord in His three and a half years of ministry, did so much, to the point that Apostle John wrote that, if all that He did were to be recorded in a book, no book could contain all that He did. John 21:25. This makes it a really tall order yet His word always carries the ability to do if only they are believed and acted upon.
CONFESSION
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your word about me. You have called me to do greater works than you did. I receive your word and believe that, so long as you said so, then it is very possible for me to do the greater works. Thank you for working with me to see it come to pass.
THOUGHT: GOD’S WORD IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE, IF IT IS BELIEVED AND ACTED UPON
