KEY SCRIPTURE: John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine”.

Parents are shepherds of their children. Jesus said He knows his sheep. Many parents get so busy with other things without knowing what is going on in the life of their teenage children.

Many parents live to be very shocked, when informed about certain behaviours of their children.

The bible reveals the reaction of Absalom to his brother Amnon who had raped his sister Tamar in 2nd Samuel 13:22 “And Absalom spoke unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister”. Absalom was so hurt that he did not speak to his brother yet King David their father did nothing about it. Why? He might not have known. He was not involved in the life of his sons. Absalom planned to kill his brother for a whole two years and David had no slightest insight into it. When brothers are not talking to each other, it should not easily escape a father who relates with his children.

Certain parents only live to realize that their “innocent” daughter is pregnant. What has been going on in her life, who are her friends? Do you take time to search her bag, books, phones and even chart with her to know her activities?. Some parents are shocked to know that their son is on drugs. In some cases they get to know when the child maybe involved in an offence that draws them to the police station. How could all these be going on and they had no knowledge?

Dear father the responsibility to raise a godly son or daughter rest mainly with you. Our key scripture says “I know my sheep”. Do you know your children?

Absalom had become a rebel and David didn’t know. What are the signs in a rebellious son? 2nd Samuel 13:21 says “But when David heard of all these he was very wroth”.  He was angry with Amnon but what did he do more.

Father, get proactive about events concerning your children. Get into their bags, books, dresses, mobile phones etc.

It is my duty as a parent to raise godly children, I must know all that goes on in their lives through communicating with them, going through everything about them. I would never lose my children to any evil influence.

Proverbs 4:3-4  ” For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live”.

John 10:3 to him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out”.
