KEY SCRIPTURE:1 Samuel 18:21” And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain”.
King Saul pursues his obsession to kill David. He decides to give him his eldest daughter to marry. This was a trap to get him killed. Saul’s younger daughter Michal was the one who eventually got married to David.
King Saul said he was not taking any dowry form David but the dowry was a hundred foreskins of the Philistines instead. (1st Sam.18:25) God was on David’s side, and he had absolutely confided in God. Instead of a hundred foreskins he brought two hundred. The enemy plans to destroy you and God also seeks to turn the situation for your promotion. It is who you choose to align with, that determines whether God will vindicate you or Satan will cut you down.
In 1st Samuel 19:1-3 Saul tells his son Jonathan to kill David yet Jonathan unveils this plan to David and he escaped. Michal David’s wife also helped him to escape. In all these events God put David in favor with Saul’s children who were supposed to be a snare unto Him.. (Rome 8;28) David visited Samuel in Ramah. Saul enquired of it and sent messengers to go for him. When they got there, they started prophesying. He sent another group and they also joined the prophets to prophesy. After sending a number of people he decided to go himself. He was also taken over by the Spirit of God and started prophesying too. David went to the same place that Saul and his men went but they were taken over by the Spirit and kept prophesying without being able to control themselves. This thing had no effect on David.
Isn’t it amazing? The very atmosphere that took Saul and his men captive had no effect on David. As a child of God your stance with God will distinct you from what is happening to everybody. What is affecting everybody negatively should not affect you. (1st Samuel 19:24) Saul prophesied till he was naked. Inspite of all these Saul kept pursuing David. Why didn’t the Lord, just kill Saul so David will be free to be king. Saul had fallen out of favor with God and so was in the hands of the devil. The Lord allowed him to go to whatever length he intended, to prepare David to learn a few things before taking over the throne.
David learnt to forgive a leader who was wrongly following him. He learnt about God’s ability to deliver him from his enemies. David had to learn patience. He had been anointed to be the next king but he was dwelling in caves, in the forests and even in the lands of the enemy. God in His wisdom prepares us for higher roles by allowing certain difficult situations to trial us. James 1:2-4 tells us vividly about the great benefits of trails that come our way.
He says we must count it all joy.
I pray for all leaders in waiting to be patient to go through every training God allows for them to go through.
James 1:2-4 ” My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers’ temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Romans 8:28. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”.
