KEY SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 20:1 ” And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, what have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life”
David came to Jonathan and said unto Jonathan, what have I done, what is my iniquity and what is my sin before thy father that he seeks my life? (Read 1st Samuel 20)
This is a distressing question that David asked. Many of us might have asked similar questions at one time in our life. Ours may not be about a man attacking us, but situations that oppose us. Please note; every special calling has a special opposition from the devil. Moses was chased to be killed at birth, because he was the promised deliverer of the Jews when they were in slavery. Our Lord Jesus was pursued by Satan right from his mother’s womb till the final day he died on the cross. Every Christian is a potential deliverer of multitudes, he is a master over Satan and his host. You are a threat to the devil. You are number one on his hit list.
The sad truth is that some Christians don’t recognize that they are appointed or anointed deliverers. The destiny of multitudes rest in their hands. The enemy is not bothered about such people, because he has succeeded in making them lose sight of the real call upon their lives. They are no longer a threat to him. Those who have not allowed their vision and calling to be watered down by satanic destructions, are those he does everything to frustrate. Stand your ground brother or sister. This was what Saul attempted to do to David. Satan used Saul to prevent David from ascending the throne.
In 1st Samuel 20 :42 David and Jonathan re-established their covenant. Jonathan demonstrated fully that he would always keep his terms of the covenant. He knew David would become the next king although in human terms he should have been the next king. He did not allow any form of selfishness to creep into his heart. He risked his life to save David. (1st Sam. 20:33) David also determined to keep his part of the covenant.
As humans we relate with people in various levels having different terms of engagement or covenants with them. We have employment partnerships or covenant. There are rules and regulations that bind us to certain groups we belong. We must be careful to be faithful to these terms and rules that bind us. Don’t work with someone and steal from him or her. This is breaking the covenant between you and him or her. Marriage is a very major covenant that we must not play down on. Please understand that God is the witness and third party to these covenants that we go into. The only covenants that we don’t get involve in, are blood covenants and other ones that call on other gods (demons) to arbitrate. God our Father is always the witness to our covenants, when we break our part, we have sinned against him and would invite His judgement against us.
O father help us to be always faithful to all covenants or agreements we make with people. Help us to appreciate the importance of honoring every covenant we make with people.
Malachi 2:14 ” Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.”
1 Peter 5:8-9 ” Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
