KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:15 ” But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:”
In 1st Samuel 21, David visited Ahimelech the Priest at Nob. Ahimelech asked David, what brings him there? David said the King had commanded him to do a work in which no one should know anything about. King Saul had not asked David to do any such work. David wanted some bread and even a sword. We realized that David lied to the Priest.
In 1st Samuel 22: -23 king Saul heard that David had visited the Priest Ahimelech. He went there and eventually asked his servant Doeg, the Edomite to kill the priest and other Levites who were with him, because they met with David. Actions that proceed from lies does not have the approval of the spirit. On many occasion Satan takes advantage of the wrong action and causes trouble to some of the persons involved. When Abraham lied to the king Abimelech in Genesis, who took Sarah his wife, had all the men stricken with a great plague (Genesis 12:17.) Abraham’s wrong action brought God’s anger on the people. In the case of David, his desire to have bread and a sword led him to the priest but ultimately led to the slaughter of all those priests. David admitted in 1st Sam 22:22, that he had occasioned the death of the household of Ahimelech
Do not act on the premise of lies. Satan always takes advantage of that step to cause big trouble. Many people do not mind telling lies anytime and anyhow. Our key scripture says we must speak the truth to one another so we would grow into Christ in all things. Speaking the truth strengthen our moral capacity. The more you tell the truth, the more your inner being is strengthened. The scripture says, we grow to be like Jesus. This is one sure way to manifest the Christ nature, that is already residing in you.
After David’s encounter with Ahimelech, he went to Gath (the land of Philistine) he was taken to the king Achish (1st Samuel 21:10-15). The people of Gath easily identified him. Instantly David had to behave like a mad man. This was an act of wisdom to save his life. Achish the king said why bring this mad man here to play the madness before me. David was sent away safe because he was smart to act wisely. This instant was not an act of lie. It was an act of wisdom or self-protection.
In the first instant, if David had said the truth the priest would have known what action to take concerning Doeg, who later killed all the priests under Saul’s instruction. Always tell the truth.
Heavenly Father, help us to know the right action to take at every incident. Grant us wisdom to act in obedience to your perfect will always
1 Samuel 21:2 ” And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, the king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, let no man know anything of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.”
1 Samuel 21:13 ” And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard”.
