KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 16:25 KJV “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it”.
MEN of great faith in God have a common trait about them: they are very selfless and spiritual. The Lord remarked about this in our key scripture. The self-centered man would not allow Christ to have His
way in him. The scriptures say such a one will lose his life or be dominated by the enemy. What is happening here.? The one who seeks to preserve himself is self-centered and cannot rely on the word of God which builds faith in Him. Our call to follow Jesus is a call to deny ourselves or to be completely dependent on Him. Luke 14:26 KJV “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple”. Life is spiritual. To function in the path of Christ you must tread spiritually. This means throwing away your fleshly understanding and submitting totally to His word. (Proverbs 3:3-8)
King Saul was a man full of himself, and so he was faithless. He was very fearful. David was a selfless man and so, he was a man of great faith in God. When Saul was paralyzed with fear at the threat of Goliath, David the man who was selfless, was filled with great faith.
He faced Goliath and defeated him in style. Selfless men are men of great faith. They give attention to God and His word. They are full of God and live to project His interest and not theirs. Such a man does not speak or act for himself but God’s. He is called a man or woman of God. To be a man or woman of God is in the individual’s heart but proven in his or her works.
Faith is functioning against the laws of the flesh. The laws of the flesh say the truth is that which can be seen, felt, smelt or can be touched. The law of faith declares I have what I believe although I don’t see it now. If you function by the law of your flesh you can’t function by the law of faith. To have great faith, you must deny yourself like Jesus instructed and give in to the word of God. Self-centeredness would make God’s word ineffective.
CONFESSION
I am Christ centered. I deny myself and allow only the interest of Christ to fill, control and lead me. I do not act or speak for myself, but speak only for God. God always honors my stands because I do all these according to his instruction. I experience great success all around me.
