KEY SCRIPTURE: Mark 4:19 KJV “And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful”.
In our discussions of the thorns that prevents the word from being fruitful, we have looked at
1The cares of this life
2. The deceitfulness of riches.
We now consider the lust of other things.
Man after the fall was no longer led by the Spirit of God. He was led by his senses. The flesh which is the master of the senses has become the real center of influence in the affairs of men. Apostle Peter states that those who are controlled by the word have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust
(2 Peter 1:4). Lust therefore is a very strong competitor with God’s word to control a man’s life.
Gal 5:17 KJV” For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”. The flesh includes the natural instincts, the human faculties of reason, the sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. They compete with the Spirit to control men.
Out of the flesh, do we have what the scriptures talked about the works of the flesh. Gal 5:19 KJV “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies”,. The Lord said when a man gives in to any of these things it chokes the word and makes the word ineffective.
God’s word has a supernatural effect on our whole being. Our physical bodies under the total control of the word receives a supernatural lift. The scripture describes it as partaking of the divine nature, through a response and a dependance on the exceeding great and precious promises. Apostle Paul also describes it as being transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2).
The Christian is not called to live in the natural fleshly plain. Rom 8:9 KJV” But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”. The Lord taught that when a man is born again, he is like the wind, breaking natural limitations. (John 3:8). All these are made possible as we are led by the word of God. Decide to be doggedly committed to the dictates of God’s word. You will escape the corruption in this world.
CONFESSION
I live in the realm of God’s word. That is the world of the supernatural realm of God. I am aware of the failure of living by the senses, and so I do not give any place to my senses to lead or control me. By the word I have escaped the corruption in the world. I reign in this life by the power of the word.
