KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 13:52 (KJV). “Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.”
After the Lord had given a wide range of parables to his audience, He said every scribe who is instructed about the kingdom of God is like a householder, a person of influence who stores up knowledge in his store house or treasure room. He has old teachings to give his hearers as well as fresh information to feed those who receive from him. The first requirement is that he must be instructed. We are constructed by instruction. The book of Proverbs 4:13, says “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” Your life would be kept from destruction as you keep to right instructions.
WHO is a scribe? A scribe is literally a recorder. One who writes down certain information, happenings that would be assessed and used in the future. Scribes are also teachers. Ezra was a scribe. “For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.”
— Ezra 7:10 (KJV)During the days before Christ the scribes recorded the word of God, kept it and taught the Israelites. Dear child of God, you are a teacher of the many who have not come to faith in Jesus. The Lord said to every child of God, go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that he has taught us.
You are a teacher who must teach others. You need to be instructed about the principles of the kingdom of God. You need to have a treasure house of information from which you would draw both new and old knowledge to help or bless those God has brought into your influence.
You must be acquainted with the truth. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)God’s word is our instruction manual. Study it, study it for you would be built up and fully equipped unto every good work.
2 Timothy 2:16-17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
