KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 14:16 (KJV). “But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.”
The multitude who came after Jesus, stayed with him late into the night listening to the master. They were apparently hungry, yet the serious part of their problem was that, it was late as well as a desert area, where they could not get food to buy. The Lord knew they were hungry, he knew they could not easily have any access to food. The Lord did not only know of their plight, he was concerned, and had decided on what to do. These people did not even call on the Lord to consider their plight, yet He was making arrangement to feed them. I believe within the multitude were many who were bitterly complaining about hunger and how it was impossible to get food to buy or to get home early enough to get some food to eat.
God tells us in His word what to do in the moments of difficulty and challenge. He says “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” -Philippians 4:6 (KJV) The Lord’s instruction is that we must be anxious for nothing. Anxiety is a state of emotional and mental turbulence, as a result of focusing on the negative happenings around him, and realizes, he has no answer. What can one do to avoid being anxious? Understand it came because you chose to focus on the difficulty, now decide to focus on what God is saying and doing. For the people in the wilderness with Jesus, they had no idea about what Jesus was up to. Today, by the scriptures we know what Jesus is up to. He said” I will never leave you nor forsake you”. He says all my promises are yes in Christ Jesus, 2nd Corinth 1:20. You must choose to believe what He says.
(Now, let me clarify the following three words to help us know how to handle each. Faith or believe is when a man decides to accept what God is saying. Unbelief is when a man refuses what God is saying and chooses to listen to what Satan or the bad situation says, often breeding fear. Doubt is when one is undecided whether to choose God’s word or Satan’s word.)
The Lord Jesus was engaging His disciples to work a miracle to feed the multitudes. The disciples found a boy with a basket of five loaves and two fishes. They questioned, what can that do, when there were a multitude to feed? The Lord does not need hundreds of baskets full of loaves of bread, to feed the multitude, All He needs is even just one loaf, which would be released to him in faith. When He took hold of those five loaves and two fishes, He blessed it and gave it back to the disciples to be given to the multitudes. God works miracles for us when we release something dear into His hands. God always needs our faith to work miracles for us, because faith is a release of our heart, that is, the totality of our being into His hands, God cannot do any miracle in our lives without a release of our heart (faith) into His hands.
God is always concerned to bless us, but waits on us to place our being (faith) in His hands. Heb 11:6
