KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:31 KJV” Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”
We continue with our discussion on Jesus’ discourse with the multitude who followed up on him because of what Jesus did by multiplying the loaves of bread and the two fishes. They erred by asking the Lord to perform a sign. Now they are trying to tell the Lord what they expect by relating it to the time of Moses. The Lord had stated a moment ago that they should not labour for the meat that will perish, and that the work of God is to believe in Him that the father sent. These people immediately turned away from Jesus words to talk about the food that the people in Moses’ day ate. What was happening to them? Their mental condition prevented them from focusing on what the master said. They were still engrossed with their desire for food and so, they easily missed what the Lord was saying.
The are many people today who sit through preaching moments but hear nothing. These are like Jesus’ parable of the Sower, whose seed fell by the way side. He explained that, because those people did not understand what they heard, they could not retain it and so they quickly lost it. Mark 4:15 KJV” And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. The cause of this is inattentiveness to the word. It is rather surprising that some people would be browsing their mobile phones as the preaching of God, ‘word goes on. There those who occupy their minds with all kinds of issues and worries and as a result fail to hear or understand the word of God.
What must one do to prevent himself or herself from missing God’s mind for him or her?
1.Do not come to the presence of God with a made-up mind.
2. Be ready to listen. Many people do not listen to the word, which may be preached to them. On many occasions they hold to their views and so they do not hear what the preacher may be saying.
3. Do not show God how He must bless you, like Naaman did in 2 kings 5. These people were referring Jesus to the times of Moses and the manna they ate. Such an attitude can cause one to easily miss God. Whenever you come to God, be ready to submit to his terms and trust Him to honour His word in your life.
4.Attentiveness to what is said is the primary bases for understanding the word. Do not allow obstructions to the word of God.
5. You do no good to yourself to argue with the word each time it is preached. Be always submitted to the word knowing that God word is far superior to what we may think. James 4:7
6. Each time you hear God’s word, just receive and believe it. 1Co 1:21 KJV” For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
THOUGHT: GOD’S WORD AND WAYS ARE SUPERIOR, JUST RECEIVE IT
