KEY SCRIPTURE: Heb 4:12 KJV” For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Our key scripture states that there is a difference between the soul and spirit of a man. One may claim to be a child of God, yet his or her actions would be from her soul. God approves only of the actions that proceed from the spirit. John 4:23 KJV But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. The activities of the soul would only be acceptable unto God if it is initiated and controlled by the spirit. Unfortunately, many act from their souls and they think, it is of the Spirit.
One could be praying, yet it is a soulish prayer. One could be preaching, or showing acts of kindness, yet it is just a soulish act, and it has no eternal value before the Lord. The word of God is the main discerner of that which is soulish. Heb 4:12.1Co 13:3 KJV ” And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” An example of a soulish act is our immediate scripture. He bestows all his goofs to feed the poor, yet it is only soulish, as a result, it has no rewards before God.
Soulish acts have self-seeking or self-entered motives. They are acts that satisfy, the individual’s ego. There is never an attitude of humility in such a person’s actions. Many times, such people get very offended if their actions are not acknowledged by men. A singer sings to show how powerful her voice is. A minister of the gospel may share a testimony, only to show how powerful he is in the Lord. One may even express a very deep emotions in worship, it is all to make him, feel good. People dance to various, songs, just to amuse themselves, to attract others to see how good, they can move their feet. The Lord gave an example of a soulish act, in the following verse. Matt 6:5. All such acts proceed from the soul and have no rewards before the father.
Why would soulish acts have no rewards? Every child of God, must know that, we are all means for God to act and He receive praise and glory. Any praise or acknowledgement, that we may seek is a misplacement, divine honour and so, it has no value before God.
