ABSOLUTE HUMILITY 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: John  8:28 KJV” Then said Jesus unto them, when ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things”.

We learnt from our previous study that our Lord Jesus was absolutely dedicated to the Father in perfect humility. Humility led Him to experience the most humiliating moment of His life on earth, yet, it sent Him to the highest height of glory. The bible said because of what He did, God likewise has given him a name which is above every name. Philipp 2:11.

What is in humility that endears so much of God’s approval and exaltation of the humble man.? Humility is a practical way of declaring that God is God and that, you are totally surrendered and submitted to Him.

Humility is also a form of giving worship unto God. Worship has the idea in Hebrew, to bow down or to prostrate before the Father Ps 95:6. This is what attracts the Lord God to arise to show His approval for such person.

Pride is not just an isolated action of an individual, or something that is remote from God, but a direct rebellion against the very throne of God. God opposes the proud with the greatest fury and an outright dislike

All men, whether religious or not are dependant on God, and therefore are accountable to Him.

It is only to your advantage to be humble and receive God’s full approval and blessings. The question about who is fitting to be used of God is rooted in whether the person is truly humble or not.

GOD, USES ONLY HUMBLE VESSELS In God’s eyes the humble man is the one who trembles at the word of God. Humility as a way of submission to God also shows dependence on God. Humility gives faith in God the grounds or right to stay in the heart of an individual. Faith is a decision of an individual to accept or yield to the word. That act of yielding to God is humility.

Humility is simply one’s positive disposition towards God.

Humility has nothing to do with whether a person is an introvert or an extrovert. It is all about how prepared one is ready to yield to God, irrespective of the cost, danger or rewards. God also cherishes dearly a man with a humble heart. He will always lift such a person into significance or make special provisions for him.

A humble attitude toward men is always a result of true humility towards God. A man who is not humble towards God cannot be humble towards his fellow men.

PRAYER

Thank you, father, for the Holy Spirit. Fill my heart with a great sense of submission and fear for thee, Help me to act always with one motive that is to please you alone

THOUGHT: IT APPEARS FOOLISH TO ACT, HUMBLY, YET YOU WILL STAND OUT GLORIFIED IN THE END

ABSOLUTE HUMILITY

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:28 KJV” Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.”

From our key scripture, the Lord reveals that the people would know who He is when He would be lifted up, that is when He is crucified. He reveals that He would be glorified through His humiliation. He added that at that time they would know that He never did anything by Himself, but did everything on the instruction of the Father. He expressed total submission or humility unto the Father. Philip 2:5-11 admonishes us to let the mind of Jesus be in us. He demonstrated total humility, and God also has highly exalted Him, above every name, condition or situation. God gives grace to the humble, yet, He resists the proud James 4:6.

Pride is a very serious act, because, it rebels against the very throne of God, yet many Christians walk in pride.

Why is this so? Before we answer that question, let’s look at some symptoms of pride.

1. Envy against the success of anybody is a symptom of pride.

2. Entertaining the desire for praise because of some achievement you have made in Christ is a symptom of pride. Example healings and miracles done through you.

3. When offended because somebody ‘lower’ spoke to you roughly. Is also a sign one is proud.

4. When you would not forgive a wrong done you.

5. Every offence that you take personal instead of getting offended for God, for an act against God, is a symptom of pride.

6. Those who always speak with the phrase, ‘as for me’ are all symptoms of pride.

7. Those who compare themselves with others, is a symptom of pride.

There are many more yet space would not permit me.  The simple yard stick to identify pride is any act that makes you the centre of importance are all motivated by pride. Jesus should always have the pre-eminence.

To answer the question why is there so much pride? The answer is, many sons of God, do not acknowledge the death of their flesh. You should be able to say with Paul and really mean it, that you are crucified with Christ, and it is no longer you who is living but Christ who is alive. YOU DO NOT MATTER ANY LONGER.

When I say you do not matter, I mean your true identity is Jesus. He is the one who takes all the glory. He also bears the reproaches that come against you Rom 15:3. No more any sense of shame or personal glory. It is the glory of Christ who is in you. You are now free of any personal offence. Philip 1:20. Apostle Paul says according to his Earnest expectation and hope that in nothing he would be ashamed; why, because Jesus must be magnified in him. Our humility must be absolute.

CONFESSION

I am crucified with Christ, and it is Christ who presently lives in me. I am not ashamed about anything, neither do I take glory for anything, it is Jesus in me who takes all the glory and also bears the reproaches, glory be to His name.

Rom 15:3 KJV “For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.”

Phi 1:20 KJV” According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.”

CONTROLLED BY THE SPIRIT 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: Joh 8:26 KJV” I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.”

Our topic of discussion is a very important one. The Christian either wins or flops depending on how well he or she understands this topic and subsequently applies it. Apostle Paul instructed every child of God to” walk in the Spirit and he would not fulfil the lust or the control of the flesh”. Gal 5:16. This statement also means to live by the power or influence of the Spirit. How does this happen? The state, or what occupies the mind shows what controls you. The International Standard Version of the bible put it this way. Rom 8:5 ISV” For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.”

Our minds are therefore extremely important aspect of our being, that makes us very strong or weak in the Spirit, depending on how we use it. In the light of this, one very important Christian discipline is meditation. Meditation is a process of getting the mind to dwell on the scriptures. When the mind is substantially dominated by the word through meditation, the emotions and the will, will likewise align to that pattern of thought, believe or persuasion. The end result of this is the spirit having that dominance over you. Prophet Ezekiel said in Ezek 2:2, that the Spirit entered me as He spoke to me. The Spirit which is referred to as the breath of God goes along with the word.

Our Lord Jesus, said His words are Spirits and life John 6:63. It is therefore not so difficult to develop into a spiritual giant for the Lord. The man who successfully meditates on the scriptures would also find it quite easy to do what the word says. When this condition continues for a great while, his or her spiritual senses would be so trained that he or she would naturally function in, or according to the word of God. Living according to the word is also described as being controlled by the Spirit.

A child of God who functions this way, would also have his faculties, that is his physical body, being dominated and used by the spirit. He will blow air and it is the Spirit working through that natural breath. He stretches his hands and there would be a clear manifestation of the Spirit’s power. He goes to a place and it is always an accurate act of the Holy Spirit that led him there. He has become a vessel totally influenced, controlled, and used by the Spirit. Choose to live this way.

CONFESSION

I am controlled by the Spirit. Through my mind the Spirit, controls me as the word takes it rightful place in me. My faculties both spiritual and natural are all dominated by the spirit. I have success in all I do, all to the glory of God.

THOUGHT: A PROPER USE OF YOUR MIND, WILL CATAPULT YOU INTO THE GREATEST HEIGHTS OF SUCCESS

Jos 1:8 KJV “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

1Tim 4:15 KJV” Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”

CONTROLLED BY THE SPIRIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:26 KJV: I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

Our key scripture is a very good case of one controlled by the Spirit and not the flesh.

The flesh is any prompting motivated by what one can see, smell, taste, hear or touch, and this advice the reasoning, which subsequently influences the actions.

The Lord had felt there was so much to judge the people, yet He would only say and do what the Holy Spirit who is truth would ask Him to say. To be in Christ means the senses are dead, that is ,it is the Spirit that leads in every matter. The senses only respond to what the Spirit says they must accept and act. Amplified Bible, Classic Edition Romans 8:10 ” But if Christ lives in you, [then although] your [natural] body is dead by reason of sin and guilt, the spirit is alive because of [the] righteousness [that He imputes to you].” If the Spirit should be the leader of an individual, He functions just like Jesus.

The Christian by birth into Christ must fully function like Jesus. This is to be seen in character and in power. In character he manifests the pure liquid love of Jesus.

The God kind of love is the love that never considers its own interest first but considers all things through the eyes of God.

This love lays its life down for his neighbour John 15:13. Unfortunately it is often restrained by fear, that is the fear to lose. The fear comes because the flesh creeps in to start controlling the individual. The flesh, dear child of God must remain dead, if Christ is to be seen in you. Amplified Bible, Classic Edition Galatians 5:24 “And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires.”

I said that, the Christian is supposed to demonstrate both the character of Jesus and the power of Jesus. He is a direct likeness of Jesus now on the earth. This power is seen in total mastery over Satan, diseases, lack and death.

The resurrection power rules in Him, and he also rules over the laws of sin and death.

Once again this is made possible because the flesh is dead but the Spirit is alive.

When a loved one is overtaken with disease, he stands in the stead of Jesus and commands the devil to take his filthy hands from the victim, and that devil MUST, obey, and leave the victim. If the church of God would keep the flesh where it belongs most of the sorrows in our world would cease and our Lord and master Jesus would be glorified.

CONFESSION

I am in Christ, and the flesh is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is alive because of righteousness. I walk in the pure love of Jesus bringing joy to all who I relate to. I also manifest the very power and authority of Jesus, in setting men free from satanic bondage. I am likewise free from every control of the devil. Disease, lack , death do not lord themselves  over me in Jesus name.

THOUGHT: IF THE FLESH DIES IN YOU, JESUS WOULD SURELY BE SEEN IN YOU

2 Peter 1:3 ,4 ISV” His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence. Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires.

Rom 8:2 ISV “For the Spirit’s law of life in the Messiah Jesus has set me free from the Law of sin and death.”

KNOWING JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: Joh 8:25 KJV” Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.”

In our key scripture, the Jewish elders and Pharisees asked Jesus, who are you? The Lord answered that, He is what He told them earlier He was. Many people have heard or read about Jesus yet they do not know Him. There are even a number of church folks who have heard so much about Jesus, yet they do not know Him. Why were these people still ignorant about who Jesus was, although He had, heard from the master, who He was? These people had hardened their hearts and so could not accept Him for who He was.

Why was it so?

1.They were envious of Him. The veil of envy could not make them accept him for who He was.

2. Their concept of God was that, God was too high and too holy to relate to humans. This made them not to know who He was, although He had been saying who He was to them.

3.They did not know Him because of all kinds of wrong thoughts, they had about Jesus.

People in our days have similar conditions, why they don’t know Jesus.

It takes humility to know or accept Jesus for He is. 1Corinth 1:21 KJV” For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe”. Most people live by their senses and cannot know Him. The immediate scripture says, in the wisdom of God men cannot know God, through reasoning.

One must accept Him by humbly accepting all that has been revealed about Him.

The bible teaches Jesus was born by a virgin girl. He said to them He came from above. These things show he was a supernatural being. They could not accept that.

Dear one knowing Jesus is eternal life John 17:3. Knowing Him, is being transformed from a weakling to a strong person. Dan 11:32. Knowing Him would change one from a fearful person to a bold one. Knowing Jesus would bring healing to you, if you are sick. You would be filled with His joy when you know Him.

Apostle Paul says He forsook all other earthly benefits, so he would know Jesus. Philippians 3:8. You can surely know Him by accepting what He has said about Himself in the bible.

Jesus is the eternal word of God, yet He is God, who was born into this life by a virgin, died for our sins and was raised to life on the third day and He gives eternal life to all who believe in Him.

CONFESSION

Jesus has revealed Himself in the bible. I humbly accept the revelation about Him. I have His peace in my heart. I have His authority over the evil one. I have power over diseases, lack, fear and my life reflect His nature of love and light. Glory be to God.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH JESUS?

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:24 KJV” I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins”.

The story is told about a professor who joined a fisherman in his canoe to cross a river. As they went along the professor asked the fisherman, do you know anything about chemistry. He said no. Then the professor said, you have lost twenty percent of your life. He asked the fisherman again; do you know anything about metallurgy? He said to him, no. He added, then forty percent of your life is gone. Before He would ask another question, the fisherman also asked the professor, if this canoe is to capsize would you be able to swim to safety? The professor said no. He said to him, if you can’t swim, then your whole life is lost. This fisherman added the following statement, in a similar vein, if you do not know Jesus, your whole life is also gone. You would be lost eternally.

In Matt 27:22 ” Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.” Today I wish to ask you, what would you do with Jesus? Without Him you are lost, in your sins. With your faith in Him, your sins are no more, for Jesus is the lamb of God who took away, the sins of the world. John 1:29. The Lord Jesus did not only bear our sins; He took away our sicknesses and pains. Amplified Bible, Classic Edition Isaiah 53:4″ Surely, He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. You can only receive healing in His name if you would accept, He has indeed borne our diseases.

The scripture reveals in Jesus dwells the fulness of God’s wisdom. Col 2:3 KJV” In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” The scriptures say further that in Jesus is the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9 and we are complete in Him. This means we are also filled up with Him. In Christ Jesus, we are made masters over Satan and His host of devils. Col 2:15, Heb 2:14. Whosoever has Jesus has eternal life.1 John 5:13. What will you do with Jesus? To all who have surrendered their lives to Him, remain strong in Him, but if not Jesus is the greatest experience you can have. Choose to believe in Him.

CONFESSION

Jesus is God’s answer for all of man’s questions, I put my total trust in Him. I surrender the reign of my life to Him. Thank you, Lord Jesus.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:23 KJV “And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.”

Jesus said to the Jews that He is from above but they are of this world. Jesus walked on this earth yet He maintained a heavenly citizenship mentality. He saw Himself as a supernatural person, who lived by a higher influence than ordinary humans. Natural unregenerated people are of this world and so are subjected to the ruling forces in this world. The god of this world 2nd Corinth 4:4 who controls the systems as well as the occurrences in this world has total influence over them. Disease, economic hardship, satanic oppression of various forms is their lot without any way out. Their only help is their raw natural ability.

Every child of God is in the same class or state as Jesus. John 17:16 KJV “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” Please listen to the master dear child of God. You are in this world but you are not of this world. You come from above according to Jesus. The word born again, means born from above. It means you are supernatural, just like Jesus. You would experience that heavenly life and influence if only you acknowledge it as reality. Many Christians are living and suffering with the world, because they either don’t know who they are, or they have not accepted who they are. Jesus said it boldly to the Jews. Dear child of God, do not be afraid to say that you live by a superior influence and the god of this world cannot rule or dominate you.

Bishop David Oyedepo says he always maintains a supernatural being consciousness. He says he has survived a number of deaths threatening situations because he faced them with a superior minded attitude. He said in one of the occasions   he woke up in the midst of the night, to find fully armed men, in his premises, ready to attack him. Knowing who he was, he was not moved neither was he afraid. He faced them by calling on the name Jesus! They all ran away without touching him. He was saved because he knew he came from above and cannot be destroyed by the smaller evil power of this world.

CONFESSION

Thank you, heavenly father for your supernatural life in me. I am born from above, therefore I am from above. I am superior to the god of this world. The evil influence in this age cannot Lord themselves over me. Devils, diseases, and destructive power of this age cannot mess me up. Glory be to God.

DO NOT DIE IN YOUR SINS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:21 KJV “Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.”

After some moments of dialogue with the Jews, the Lord made it clear to them that He would be leaving this earth for a place where they can’t come. He used the word ‘my way” This means a place ordained for Him. To His audience, He said to them, you cannot come. There is a place that some people are certain and know that heaven is their destination. The Lord specifically told them you people cannot come there.

This discussions with the Jewish religious leaders established the fact that, one’s right to go to heaven or not depends on what he does with Jesus, during his lifetime.

DO NOT EXPECT SOME PRAYERS TO BE MADE AFTER YOUR DEATH TO SEND YOU TO HEAVEN.

Dear reader, I would like to narrate a story about a man of God whose wife died. I am talking about Smith Wigglesworth, the Apostle of faith. The wife died after she finished ministering in church. Evangelist Smith was not present at that meeting. The wife was confirmed dead. This man of God when he came to see the dead wife rebuked death to lose its hold over her and she came back to life. She woke up and told the husband she is at a glorious place and he must allow her to go. The Lord also spoke to Him, that the wife is now His. He prayed once again and she slept in death. Our scripture of consideration reveals, the Christian leaves this life and goes to be with the Lord. Philip 1:23 KJV” For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:”. Our Lord Jesus died, resurrected on the third day, and ascended into heaven after forty days of revealing Himself to the disciples. Dear child of God, you have a sure hope to be with Jesus when you finish your work here on earth.

To those who have not repented of their sins, Jesus said, you cannot come to where He is going. Where would you go then? THE FOLLOWING VERSE SHOWS YOU WHERE YOU WOULD BE Isa 5:14 KJV “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.” Hell has enlarged its mouth ready for you. You can choose not to go there.

Please, do not take these things as fables, they are very true. If you cannot say for sure that you would go to where Jesus is, then today surrender your life to Him.

CONFESSION

Dear Lord Jesus, you died to take away all my sins. I repent of my ways and declare my allegiance to you by asking you to take over my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul.

THOUGHT: A DECISION FOR JESUS TODAY, WOULD SAVE YOU FROM AN ETERNITY OF SORROW AND SUFFERING.

KNOWING JESUS IS KNOWING THE FATHER  2

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:19 KJV “Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.”

Our topic for today is the answer for the question, who is God? What does He do? Does God exist? Men have struggled with these questions for centuries and many are still yet to have the answers, although God has answered them long time ago, about two thousand years ago. The following scripture reveals vividly the identity of Jesus as He shows us who God is. Heb 1:3 KJV ” Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” Our Lord Jesus is the brightness of the glory of God. He reveals the power and mighty deeds of the great invisible God. He is also the express image of His person. The word ‘express image’ is the Greek word, ‘charakter’ which means the exact expression of any person.

Jesus was a man that history testifies that He once lived on this earth, and made a level of impact in the lives of men, that cannot be wished away by anybody, army or situation.

The worst persecution of His course could not erase His impact because it is true.

His birth into this world reveals God. He had no human father. Luke 1:35 narrated His birth process. It read the Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the highest shall overshadow you, and the child shall be called the Son of God. The term Son of God does not just mean born by God, but it means in the same class, nature as God. It also means He is the God kind, just as son of man means of the human kind. This should erode every question on everyone mind about whether God exists. John writes it this way, and the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth. John 1:14.

His life was a stream of outstanding and amazing miracles. He turned water into wine, raised a number of dead people back to life, healed countless sick people. He fed multitudes with a few loaves of bread and fishes, on two occasions. He walked on water, calmed a raging storm. He demonstrated a perfect love for all persons, even for all those who hated Him and strove to kill Him. He taught in a way that no teacher has ever taught that way. At the end of a glorious life of blessing, lifting and placing smiles on the faces of all those who came to Him He crowned it with victory over suffering, and death. He gloriously resurrected on the third day to establish that He is Lord over everything, even death, which was the greatest enemy of men. His resurrection was also the victory card for man’s redemption.

All these show us who God is and does.

Once again, His resurrection revealed the invisible God to us. He resurrected never to die again. This shows the reality of everlasting life which only God has, but has been given to all who would believe in Him. Dear one let the questions about the mystery of God cease by accepting the revelation of God in Jesus His Son.

CONFESSION

Jesus brought the great God of the universe to the human experience. In seeing Jesus, I see God and have no questions. The beauty of it is that in seeing Jesus, I also see myself, for He came to live in me. God is at home in my heart. God is not somewhere, but He lives in me, this is only by grace.

KNOWING JESUS IS KNOWING THE FATHER

KEY SCRIPTURE John 8:19 KJV” Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

The Lord discussed with His disciples in John chapter 14 about going to the Father. Thomas asked we do not know where you are going, how can we know the way? He said He is the way, the truth and the life…” After this answer He added the following:” If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. John 14:7. The Lord Jesus clearly stated that anyone who sees him, has seen the Father. The Lord was not just a representative of the Father. He was really one with the Father John 10:30. The Lord Jesus was referring to His deity.

We can show from the scriptures, how Jesus is one with the Father.

We would consider a few verses of scripture.

1.Isaiah 9:6

Isa 9:6 KJV” For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. This verse refers to Jesus, yet one of His name is everlasting Father as well as the mighty God.

2. 1 Timothy 3:16

1Tim 3:16 KJV” And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”. In this verse we also see Jesus as God, making Him one with the Father.

1John 5:20

1Jn 5:20 KJV” And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ.” This is the true God, and eternal life.”

The Son is also God because the bible reveals God as three persons in one. Mat 28:19 KJV “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: The scripture says baptize in the name, not names. This is one God but three distinct persons.

In the light of all the above verses we see the Son is one with the Father. Jesus had the same glory with the Father from the beginning, although He laid it down according to Philippians 2:6,7. Joh 17:5 KJV “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” The Son and the father had the same glory from the beginning of time.

CONFESSION

Jesus is God, I give Him the glory and honour, He has the same glory with the Father. He now knows all things, sees all things and is all mighty. He will come again to judge all men.
