KEY SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 6:14″ And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod”.

Worship in its complete meaning is the whole duty of man. It is basically doing everything to honor God. In our current study we would subject ourselves to expressing the act of worship in the period of ministering to the Lord.

Our key scripture says “And David danced before the Lord with all his might……. “. As we said in the first part of our study, worship is a surrendering of your whole being to the Lord (Rom 12:1) Many people dance in the presence of the Lord with a focus on themselves, thinking about how people view their dancing steps. This is not worship. Worship means making yourself very unimportant before the Lord.

The King David danced before the Lord so much that he was almost naked, causing Michal his wife to despise him. Worshiping in His presence means to make yourself unimportant and to give Him your total being as a sacrifice. It always begins with praise, whereby you focus on the greatness, splendor, power, love, mercies and God’s perfections, leading into worship which is surrendering of your total being to Him.

The Greek word for worship is “proskuneo”, which is from two words, “pros” which means toward and “kuon” which is the word for a dog. The word in Greek for worship means acting like a dog in the presence of its master. It dances, lies on the ground and kisses the Master’s fingers.

The total posture in worship is to humble yourself before the Lord. This should not just be an expression of the lips but a sincere act from your heart. God would always grant more grace to the true worshipper. (James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble)

My father you are glorious in praise, and worthy of my total being, you are all important to me. I do subject and abase myself in surrender unto you. As I worship you I receive more grace to do excellent things.

2nd Samuel 6:21-23 “21 And David said unto Michal, it was before the Lord, which chose me before my father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

22 And I will yet be viler than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honor.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Acts 13:2 “And they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate Me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them”.

From our opening scripture, the brethren ministered to the Lord and fasted. This means they praised and worshipped the Lord. This was not a ten minute or thirty minutes business, they spent a great moment praising and worshipping the Lord.

I believe they might have had needs but they put aside every need and did not make request but kept praising the Lord.

Praise is not just singing in a fast mode and worship is not just singing in a slower music pace. Praise is the outflow of the heart exalting God for who He is (Hebrews 13:15). It is a focus on Him not on the excitement of the song.

Worshipping is a surrendering of your being in appreciation of who GOD is, (Psalm 95:6), expressing it in words.

The psalmist said, let us worship and bow down. Bowing is an act of surrender. Worshipping God means making God first, yielding your will to His will. It is a deep hearted giving of your whole being to God*In simple words, worship is falling in love with the Lord. (Duet 6:5)

God always responds to such true praise and worship. In the case of the brethren in Acts 13, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate unto me Paul and Barnabas”.

In Acts 16:25, Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God. The Lord responded by shaking the foundation of the prison and subsequently breaking the chains that held them.

Many people through praising and worshipping the Lord have seen the power of God breaking forth on them to dismantle every yoke of the devil. Give time to praising and worshipping the Lord.

With my whole heart I praise the Lord and worship Him. I exalt Him above all things. Indeed the Lord is worthy of my praise and worship. As I praise and worship Him miracles are wrought all around me!

2 Chronicles 20:22 ” And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon,  Moab, and mount Se’ir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten”.

Psalm 100:4 “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

The above verse states that when you make a request unto the Lord, believe that you have received it and you shall have it. This is the prayer of faith. It primarily applies to a person’s own life,-to his or her situations and circumstances. In order words, it applies to your desires. This is talking about you praying and not someone else praying with.

This is not talking about someone agreeing with you on something. That would be the prayer of agreement.

In this kind of prayer, it is based on a promise of scripture that you claim. Faith is an assurance of things hoped for. In the prayer of faith you get assured of your answer after you have prayed. You do not expect the answer after sometime. There is no uncertainty about the prayer of faith. It is also not an anticipation of your answer in the future.

Jesus said in     John 15:7   that “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you”.

We would get what we ask for because the word abides in us. Remember that the scripture said whatsoever you desire. What about desiring for the wrong thing?  The answer is simple if the word abide in you and you abide in the word, that is, you put your confidence in the word, you would not desire for the wrong things. You would always desire things from the word point of views and your desire when expressed to God would be answered.

Note this your prayer of faith may not always work for others, their faith is needed to make things work out perfectly for them. (James 5:15)

In praying the prayer of faith, you do not keep repeating your request but rather, you may make a reference to it as a statement of faith. Example, “Thank you father, that you have answered the request, concerning this or that “AMEN.

Heavenly father, my desires as expressed through my prayer are answered and therefore I experience joy to the full. I believe that, I receive my request whenever I pray in Jesus name.

Matthew 21:21-22  “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive”.

1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”

KEY SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,”

In our next series of studies we would be considering the various kinds of prayer.

Our key scripture tells us to pray always with all prayer.

All prayer, means there are different kinds of prayers. The following are a list of the various kinds of prayer:

  1. The prayer of faith (James 5:15)
  2. The prayer of praise and worship (Acts 13:2)
  3. United prayer (Acts 4:24)
  4. The prayer of commitment (Luke’ 22:42)
  5. The prayer of intercession (Eph. 1:15, 16)
  6. The prayer of agreement (Matt 18:19)
  7. Travailing prevailing prayer (Acts 12:5)

These kinds of prayers have their unique rules of engagement.

Just as various types of games have their own unique rules for their operation, the same goes for the kinds of prayer. To be an effective Christian, you must pray to get results always. Getting results means knowing how to pray according to the demand of the hour. You’ve got to know the various kinds of prayer and the right way to affect them.

In praying the prayer of faith, you would negate your prayer by adding the phrase “if it be thy will”. Meanwhile in the prayer of consecration it is just right to say “if it be thy will”. Again in the prayer of faith to keep repeating the same request would be an act of unbelief thus negating your prayer.

In the intercessory prayer we keep repeating the request till the answer is realized. The prayer of faith may be offered when praying for something that concerns you in which the will of God is clearly stated. Example when praying for a health condition, a physical need etc. (James 5:15)

We must know each kind of prayer and the specific rules that govern its application, in order to get good results

Dear heavenly father thank you for your ears that are open to my prayers, thank you that you always hear and answer me when I pray. As I pray applying the requisite rules for the kind of prayers I see changes and a big transformation in my life .In the name of Jesus, have I prayed.

James 5:15 “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

Acts 12:5 ” Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him”.

Many people including some Christians have ridiculed speaking in tongues because they claim it does not make sense. These people unfortunately forget that everything about faith does not make sense, yet these have always turnout the best. 1st Corinth 1:27 “For God has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound the wise and God has chosen the weak things to confound the things which are mighty”.

Our key scripture says in the name of Jesus believers would speak in new tongues. This goes for all Christians who might not be speaking in tongues. You can receive the ability to speak in tongues by claiming it in faith in Jesus name.

It is a great privilege to be speaking in new tongues. There are countless benefits that comes to the Christian who speaks in new tongues. The following are a few.

  1. Speaking in tongues opens one to the rest of the nine supernatural gifts.
  2. He that prays in tongues prays in the spirit. 1st Corinth 14:2, 14.
  3. He that prays in tongues speaks mysteries (hidden realities)…1st Corinthians 4:2
  4. He that prays in tongues edifies himself (builds himself up)… 1st Corinth 14:4
  5. People have been converted through hearing a message from one who never learnt his or her language, leading to their conversion Acts 2:11.
  6. Your spiritual senses are exercised as you pray in tongues….1st Corinthians 14:2
  7. You can’t pray amiss by praying in tongues since your mind does not pray but the Holy Spirit does

The apostle Paul said He speaks in tongues more than all the brethren. 1st Corinth 14:18. This reveals an insight into the mighty way God used him.

The Bible also tells us not to forbid speaking in tongues (1st Corinth 14:39a). Please pray and pray and pray more in tongues and you would be surprised at the great transformation in your life.

Heavenly father, I thank you for the power in the name of Jesus. It grants me the ability to speak in tongues. My spirit is edified as I pray in tongues. Secrets beyond my knowledge are sorted as I pray in tongues. May your name be praised in Jesus name.

Jude 1:20 ” But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”.

1 Corinthians 14:2 ” For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Mark 16:18 “They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them”

In the name of Jesus if the believer accidentally takes a deadly stuff or poison, it would not hurt him. There is so much power in the name of Jesus such that poisonous stuffs would not have power over the man who has faith in Jesus. Please this does not mean go for a poisonous stuff to proof you are a believer.

The following incidence occurred at a camp meeting of a particular denomination. As these brethren began to gather at the convention grounds, some of them began to feel ill. Soon about twenty or thirty of them were very ill, so they began praying for one another.

As they prayed, God revealed to them that the water in one of the hotels was poisoned. They therefore told the rest of the people not to drink water from a particular tank. God healed every one of those who fell ill.

The brethren took the remaining water to a local laboratory. The laboratory attendants told them there was enough poison in the water to kill a regiment of men. It was known that this group of people believed in miracles and healings as well as the scripture that said “if believers were to take deadly thing, it would not hurt them”. Somebody wished to prove them wrong and so tried to play a deadly trick and have a laugh at them.

God’s word works. In these days one cannot guarantee that what he/she may be consuming is dangerous or not. We have to apply this scripture that, In the name of Jesus if there is anything deadly or poisonous about what we eat or drink no evil would befall us.

Heavenly father according to your word no poisonous material would have impact on me if I accidentally take it into my body, in the name of Jesus!!!

Exodus 23:25 “and ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee”.

Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.

KEY SCRIPTURE: Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…..”

Talking about devils and demons make some people to be hysterical or better still skeptical. Take it or leave it, devils and demons are very real and play a great role in the experiences and lives of people. As a minister of the gospel I have encountered so many cases that at first sight had no association to devils but turned out to be caused by demons.

Our key scripture assures that one of the signs that would accompany or proof that you have believed in Jesus is the ability to cast out devils in Jesus name. Please get this fact clear, it is not a sole duty or privilege of pastors, prophets, evangelists or apostles to be able to cast out devils. Every believer has received the authority to do so. This authority is in the name of Jesus.

The Lord said in” Matthew 28:18 “……., All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

Our right to use His name is two fold:

  1. He gave us the power of attorney to use His name. (Matthew 28:18-19, Mark 16:17)
  2. We have inherited His name by virtue of our baptism into Him (Galatians 3:27) and new birth (Ephesians 1:18)

Every Christian must acknowledge this right and aggressively use His name against devils and demons.

According to Philippians 2:9-10, every knee should bow at the name of Jesus. Please don’t hesitate to use our Lord Jesus’ name against most situations that are adverse and make life uncomfortable. Many sicknesses have demonic causes, use the name of Jesus against them. Cast out the spirits of infirmity. I have often proved this by casting out these spirits of infirmity and the victims have left sound and hearty. The authority is in the name of Jesus, the power is in the presence of the Holy Spirit who would respond to the name of Jesus. (John 14:26, John 14:13-14)

Cast out spirits that controls people’s actions and create problems at home. You can do this in the privacy of your room and the effect would be evidenced. Prayer has no barrier.

Thank you father for the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus Christ. In His name every devil bows. Diverse situations caused by devils change as I exercise the mighty authority in Jesus name. No devil would limit, hurt or influence me because of the authority in His name.

Acts 16:18 “” And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”

John 14:13-14  “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”

Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”

The admonishing in the key scripture, not to worry is very necessary when we have made our request unto God. Worry is a definite sign of the absence of joy and the Lord says in John 14:24, that He answers our requests so we may have joy to the full.

How can we be full of joy and victory when the circumstances look dark and we have needs in our lives? The normal response in such times is worry. Worry would definitely negate your prayer. Praying really involves giving God our cares. (1st Peter 5:7). To worry simply means no prayer has been made and therefore no answer can be anticipated

How can we be full of joy when the demand and the challenges are great? This is the reason we must consistently build our confidence in the word through consistent acts of meditation and acting on the word. (Matt 7:21-27)

We must maintain our joy even though the challenge of financial, health or whatever situation we may be facing is imposing. Your joy in such times reveals your confidence in God and His word as well as living in the answer. (Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always

Dear brother/sister, you would block or hinder God from helping you if you are going to worry and figure out how God is going to do it. In this way you have not cast the care unto God and you have not prayed at all.

God has assured us in Mark 11:24, that when you pray, believe that God has heard, answered and you have received your answer. This leaves no room for worry or mind tormenting imaginations. God has taken over and how He would do it is very simple for Him.

Father I am very grateful that your ears are always opened to my prayers. My heart is always full of joy after I have made the request because your ability to answer me has no limits and your word is forever settled in heaven, I thank you in Jesus name.

Psalms 119:89-90, Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 16:23-24 “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full”.

During our discussions on Jesus Christ, we learnt that He is the mediator between God and man. 1st Timothy 2:5. We pray to the father in His name. We do not pray to the father through His name. To pray through Him makes Him a medium. He is not a medium, but as our High Priest He represents us. (Hebrews 5:1).

We do not pray to Him(the Lord Jesus), as we find no place in scripture that says we may pray to him, rather we pray to the father in His name.(John 16:23-24)

We can also exercise authority over situations in His name, and He would respond. John 14:14 “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”. And

Mark 16:17

From our key scripture, Jesus said in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Our Lord Jesus said this just before He died and rose again to sit on the right hand of the father on our behalf. He said in John 14:23 ” Whatsoever ye shall ask the father in my name, He will give it to you”.

The only way to approach the father is in His (Jesus) name. We can worship our Lord Jesus and worship is a type of prayer. We can tell Jesus how much we love and appreciate Him, but when it comes to praying and asking, we must ask the father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When the Lord Jesus was teaching the disciples a model prayer, He introduced God as our father (Matthew 6:9). We are to bow our knees to our Heavenly Father in prayer using the name of Jesus. (Ephesians 3:14, 15

Some people also end their prayers by saying for Jesus sake. This also has no scriptural basis. Praying in Jesus name is offering yourself the highest protocol for heaven’s recognition, whiles praying for Jesus sake is requesting on behalf of Jesus which is simply wrong, since you are the one making the request not Jesus.

Heavenly Father I thank you for giving me such Honorable protocol to come to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I thank you that when I pray in Jesus name it is like Jesus Himself making the request. Thank you that in this way I always receive my answers. I make this thanksgiving in Jesus name.

John 15:16 ” Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you”.

John 16:26 “At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you”

KEY SCRIPTURE: Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”

The next step to take to receive answers to your prayers is to lift your heart to God continually in increasing praise and gratitude for what He has done and for what He is doing for you now.

Our key scripture tells us “to be careful for nothing”. It means in nothing be anxious. It also means do not fret or have any anxiety about anything (Philippians 4:6 Amp)

As long as you fret and have anxiety all the praying and fasting in the world isn’t going to do any good. The rest of Philippians 4:6 says “With thanksgiving “. When you pray and make your request known to God, then you must thank Him for the answer. We are to pray with thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is an act of faith. It acknowledges that God has already answered. Jesus at the tomb of Lazarus said “……Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me”. The Lord had not seen Lazarus raised physically yet He started thanking God for hearing him. This is one of the highest points of operating faith. Don’t wait to see every request answered, start thanking the Lord. 1st Thessalonians 5:18 reads ” In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. After you have done all that we have talked earlier, the next is continually thank the Lord for answering you.

The apostle Paul and Silas in the prison prayed and sang praises unto God and their deliverance was effected (Acts 16:25-26). Do not complain about your condition, rather ignore the enemy and his fake activities by thanking God and praising His name.

Praise be to the name of the Lord for your mercies and goodness unto me. In your name I have overcome all the operations of the enemy. Thank you Lord for answering my request.

Psalms 95:2 “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms”.

Colossians 4:2 “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;”
