KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:44 KJV “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Rev. Dr Olukoya of the Mountain Of Fire Ministries gave the following true story. At the birth of one lady, a strange bird appeared in the labour room. It so happened that when this girl married and was about to give birth to her first baby, the same bird appeared in the labour ward again. This time, the attention of the nurses and the midwife were directed to killing or driving the bird out of the room. The lady was left unattended, only to turn to see her dead. Satan would not give up untill, he has achieved his lust.

Every child of God must appreciate the Lord’s initial description of the devil. Satan would pursue his lust till he destroys his victim, yet the bible teaches us that, he is eternally defeated. His advantage is that he is invisible and uses deceptive ways to take advantage of his victims.1Pe 5:8 KJV” Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”: The devil cannot take advantage of everybody. He roams around to find weak, uninformed and non steadfast people, or Christians to destroy.

Those he takes advantage of are

1. Uninformed people: Those who do not know the truth of God’s word

2. Weak ones: These are those who may know the word, yet they are not resolute to depend totally on the word.

3. Those who are not steadfast: These are those who are not daring in applying the word.

We have learnt that Satan would capitalise on any weak point to get one finally destroyed. Work on any weak point you have. If you easily get angry which tends to dictate your actions, then you must make sure, you free yourself from such bad tempers. Take time to study all that God says about it. Stand on the scriptural provisions. Then apply the word by resisting the devil.

James 4:7 KJV” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Never play it soft with the devil. He is a murderer, and that is exactly what he is up to.If the enemy afflicts you with a disease,go through the same procedure. The processes are

1 Be informed about the truth

2 Be strong on the truth

3 Be aggressive in applying the truth, to resist the devil.

The devil remains defeated, yet you must enforce his defeat. It is very sad when certain Christians complain, cry or cave in at the assault of the enemy. Stand and resist him steadfastly in the faith

Our key scripture gives us very elaborate teaching about the nature of the devil and his children as well.

Before we dive into the nature of Satan, let’s consider how one becomes a child of the devil. Men became children of the devil by inheritance. Psalms 51:5 KJV “Behold, I was sharpened in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”  The scriptures say through one man sin entered the world, and so death passed on all men. Rom 5:12 It is in this light that Jesus became the last Adam to die as a substitute for all mankind and, also to raise another generation of sons of God. This happens through the decision of the individual, by accepting Jesus as his Lord and saviour. John 1:12,13. This is why everyone must be born again. John 3:3

Shall we now look at the nature of the devil?

The Lord said the children of Satan function with the lust of their father the devil. The Lord describes him with the right word. Lust, which means to be passionate about a thing. To be consumed by it such that one us only satisfied when that thing is executed. In proverbs 4:16, the scriptures paints this trait of the devil as demonstrate in his children. Prov. 4:16 KJV “For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall.” It is lust that drives one to such limits of even losing sleep till an act is executed.

The lust of Satan also makes him want to consummate any wicked program; he initiates. He may strategise a plan for the destruction of an individual, and will not give up until the person is ultimately destroyed.

 It does not matter, even if it takes one day, twenty years, thirty or even fifty years.

 His lust would drive him into all patience of getting his desire realised.

Satan planned to destroy Judas through greed. He started on a very minor note by inciting him to steal from the group’s treasury, and gradually raised it up over the years, till he finally made him, betray the master, for thirty pieces of silver. After the act, he accused him, and then suggested suicide to finish him up.

The word of God, counsels us not to give any place to the devil.

 Don’t entertain any appearance of evil.

It is always backed by a very grievous program for your ultimate destruction. Remember Lot’s wife. Luke 17:32.

 Little sins grow, and when they grow, they kill.

I am not ignorant of the devices of the devil. I reject on sight every bait he may throw into my path, for every bait is linked to a hook, to finally slay a man.I reject all appearances of sin.

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:43 KJV “Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.”

The Lord’s discussions with the Jewish leaders has so much to teach us. Now the Lord tries to answer why these people cannot understand His word. The Lord revealed that it is because they cannot hear His word although they have been listening to him. This is quite a deep statement. It is an attitudinal condition. This means they had conditioned themselves not to hear. It is a mental blockage to His word. One cannot apply what he does not understand.

Many in our days cannot understand the word because of a similar state.

The following are some of the reasons why people can’t hear God’s word although they have been listening to it,

1. Sin in the heart and life of an individual would not make him hear the word, enough to understand it.In 1 Peter 2:1, Apostle Peter lists certain things which one must put away first before receiving the sincere milk, of the word. He listed the following as malice, guile or deception, hypocrisies, envy, and all evil speaking. Sin will always harden the heart. Hebrews 3:13.

2. People can’t hear the truth of the word when they come to the word with human traditions and wrong human explanations that occupy their minds. Many have interpreted scriptures without considering the context. You cannot hear the word with such hindsight teachings.

3. The Jews in particular could not hear Jesus’ message, because they had a corrupted view of Him. They were envious of Him, and also felt He was corrupting the message of the law.

Wrong preconceived ideas about Christians, about Christ, or even about men of God would not allow you to receive what is said, to the point of understanding it. Some carry the notion that pastors preach to manipulate the people to extort their monies. You cannot hear anything, with such an attitude.

4. There are those with emotional challenges, and worried minds, who can’t simply hear whatever is said.

5. These days have raised a generation who would be browsing their phones, even in church. Such people would not hear anything, nor understand as well.

Dear reader or listener, the word of God is the ONLY piece of information on this earth that can truly set you free. All you need is to give it total attention. Prov 4:20-22, James 1:21 KJV “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Anytime you have an opportunity to read, listen or take in God’s word, come to it like a little child.

1. Like one who knows nothing

2. With an attitude to learn

3. Believing it has the solutions you need

4. Ready to do what it says.

With such attitudes, your can hear rightly what is said, and also understand what is said before you can apply it, to benefit from it.

CONFESSION

God’s word is the perfect law of liberty, and I approach it with every sense of honour, believe that, it holds the answers to my questions. I humbly receive it by throwing away anything that could hinder me. I therefore understand what it teaches.

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:42 KJV “Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.”

The true identity of our Lord Jesus keeps baffling many. Some say He was begotten of God, and so He is lower in nature, authority and power to God the Father. Some also say He is an angel. In fact, they claim He is specifically angel Michael.

Jesus, Himself said so much about who He was. In the second part of our key scripture, He said He proceeds from the Father. The word ‘from’ is the Greek word ‘ek’ which also means ‘out of. This fully agrees with John 1:18, which says He dwells in the bosom of the Father, and so comes out of His bosom. In what form or nature did He dwell in the bosom of the Father? John 1:1 reveals that He is the word of God. The eternal state of Jesus is that He is the word of God.

 The word begotten is used in the sense of, the word coming out of the Father, and took on flesh John 1:14.As the word coming from the Father He has also been sent by the Father.

He is revealed again as the word of God in Rev 19:13 KJV” And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.” Jesus is the eternal word of God, and He is one, in authority, power and stature as God. John put it this way. John 1:1 KJV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He then took on flesh to become a man, although He did not come in all the glory He had with the Father. Philippians 2:5-7. John 17:5 KJV “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” He said the Father should glorify Him with the glory He had together with the Father, from the beginning. He had the same glory as the Father.

It was the assignment to save mankind that made Him put down that glory to become a man and save men. Please consider the following verse.1Pe 1:2 KJV “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.” We see Father, Son and Holy Spirit all working together for the redemption of mankind (This is the trinity operating here). We see the foreknowledge of the Father in election, the Holy Spirit sanctifies, and the Son dies to save us with His blood.

When the Lord was on earth, He made statements like, the Father is greater than the son, John 24:28, or It is the father who determines times and seasons Act 1:7. He made all these statements because He had put down His glory as God. Now He has that glory and functions fully as God.

CONFESSION

Jesus is God, He lived in eternity past as the word of God, and so He proceeded out of the Father to take on flesh and blood. He is one with the Father in power, authority and wisdom.

The Lord Jesus continued with His discourse with the Jewish leaders. At this point, He tells them, if God were your father, you would love me. Sons carry the genes of their parents and therefore would definitely reflect certain character traits as well as various levels of resemblances of the father. In this study we would be considering certain natures, actions or lifestyles that must be seen in us because we are sons of God. Every son of God must manifest.

1. They must express great love for Jesus, in seeking to please Him in all they do. Galatians 1:10 KJV “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

2. SONS of God demonstrate the God kind of love to all men. There is human love, that is based on loving one because of who the person is to you, or what you would get from the person. The love of the sons of God comes from the new man in them. This is the love which is in inspite of who you are,  what you have or even what you have done. It is the love from the Spirit and so it is full of joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, kindness, meekness and self-control. It makes houses, homes, overlooking wrongs to forgive and sacrifices for the helpless .1 Corinth 13:4-8.

3. Sons of God love to win souls. Jesus has taught is that the value or prize of a soul is His very blood or life. A soul is more precious than trillions of dollars, and the Son of God, must sacrifice, for them, Reach out for them and do everything to save souls for our father.1Co 9:19 KJV “For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.”

4. SONS of God depart from iniquity because they would not defile their Holiness. The son of God, is born a holy man or woman. Sin defiles our Holy, pure state. If you know you are a son of God, then you would naturally preserve your sanctity. Daniel 1:8, 2 Timothy 2:19.

5. The son of God manifests the power of God, in healing the sick, and setting men free from satanic power, whiles He lives above the power of Satan, that is sicknesses and demonic controls. This is a point some may contend because it has not been well taught and projected among Christians. Our ability to effectively announce the gospel is by breaking the power of the devil over men as well as over our lives. Mark 16:17 KJV” And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

6. Sons of God, live in anticipation of the appearing of Jesus for the church. The Lord said He will go and come back for the church. He gave us events that would precede His coming. Indeed, almost everything is playing for His appearing to receive the church. Sons of God purify themselves, so they would be counted worthy for this event.

God is my Father, and His Spirit lives in me. I live in appreciation of His love and kindness, and so I likewise love Him, serve Him in winning the lost, and walk uprightly always. I am filled with joy and peace excited about life. His power in me dominates sicknesses, lack, sin and Satan’s power. I am free in Jesus’ name.

2Tim 2:19 KJV” Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:41 KJV” Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.”

Sincerity is one of the traits of humility, and a door to one’s freedom from whatever has taken a hold of him. The Lord rightly diagnosed the condition of the Jews. He said to them,’ you seek to kill me because you do the deeds of your father the ‘devil’ ‘ although He did not mention the devil, they knew what he meant. Instead of admitting to the truth they rather said we were not born of fornication. This statement could have two meanings.

1. They could mean we were not born of fornication like you (remember the father of Jesus got to know that Mary, was pregnant, with Jesus before they got married. This was something known to the Jews.) They could have referred to it.

2. That statement could also mean, they are not idolators, and have only God as their God and so are not sons and daughters of fornication.

All these two meanings show that these people were not prepared to admit the truth that they were serving the purpose of their master, the devil.

Many people today, know very well that, they are living very deplorable, or sinful lives, yet they are never ready to admit they are not certain about, their eternal destination. They know their hearts are seriously tormented and have no peace at all, yet they will not humble themselves to the truth, but like the Jews, they find some horrible opposing words against the truth.

Dear one all who humbled themselves to accept the truth of the gospel have experienced real peace, the transformation of lives and even supernatural power to see miracles of healing, even raising of the dead. These things have not been isolated cases to a handful of people, but it cut across the whole earth, so long as the individuals are SINCERE in their beliefs. They experience these things I have talked about.

This is your moment to be sincere to the truth and turn the control of your life to Jesus for an encounter with eternal life.

Dear heavenly father, I acknowledge my sinfulness before you and repent from my unbelieve in you. I confess Jesus as my Lord and personal Saviour. I thank you for saving my soul and coming into my life. I am now a child of God and have received eternal life.

There is a Ghanaian Akan proverb, that says, show me your friend, and I will show you your character. Each of us is usually modelled after who we fellowship. The Lord said He speaks what He sees from the Father. The Jews also do what they see their father doing. Who is the father of these Jews? According to John 8:44, the Lord said, the devil is their father.

To see something about a person, one has to fellowship or stay around that individual to know or see how he does his things.

 It takes a great degree of effort to fellowship with the Lord, whiles one needs very little effort to fellowship with the devil.

This understanding is seen by the statement of our Lord in Matt 7:13-14.

The Lord said the way that leads to life is narrow and strait., whiles the way that leads into destruction is broad and easy.

It is with much effort and great discipline to fellowship with the Father, whiles those who do the bidding of the devil have very little effort or no effort at all to fellowship with him. This is so because, most of those who fellowship with the devil, do not even know they are fellowshipping with him.

 So long as a man does not relate to God through our Lord Jesus, he or she is certainly in partnership with the devil.

We fellowship with God, through our faith in Him, and it is expressed through prayer, the study of the word, meditation on the word and obedience to the word of God. It is in doing these things that we can ‘see’ what the Father has for us.

There are some people who see themselves as children of God, yet they do not exert themselves in doing anything for God.

 The only thing that could be associated with them concerning the faith is going to church and going through the ceremonies in the church.

Dear one, I wish to tell you in plain words that you are on the broad way, that is so easy and very comfortable. Jesus said this way leads to destruction, and He added that many people take that path. Please if your Christian life gives you no effort to serve the master. If you have no sacrifices to make for the course of the master, yet everything goes with you, then you are certainly on the broad easy way to destruction.

What must you do if you are serving God, without forsaking any pleasures or making any sacrifices to please Him? Repent from these ways and make Jesus, Lord of your life.

 Stop being a church person but rather a Jesus person.

Read the bible with a heart to do what you see. This is the means of breaking away from that path, that leads to destruction.

I am a child of God, born from above. Although I am residing in this world yet, I am a citizen of heaven. I do always that which pleases my Lord, no matter the sacrifice that may be needed.

Matthew 7:13 KJV “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:”

Matthew 7:14 KJV Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:37 KJV” I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me because my word hath no place in you.”

The Lord said He knows the Jews are offspring of Abraham, yet they seek to kill Him. It is similar to saying; you are known to be a Christian yet your actions are very different from what the word says. “For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.” Rom 2:24. It has been said about some brethren, that because of them, certain people decide never to set foot in the church.

In our key scripture, the Lord showed us why this condition normally occurs.

 The Lord said such people, behave in such ways because the word of the Lord has no place in them.

There are a number of Christians, who are social media addicts. They spend a great deal of their time playing games on either their laptops or phones. The worse of these are those who use their time watching pornographic movies or scenes. How can you have the word in you, if you do these things?

Col 3:16 KJV “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another ……”

In our days we have very powerful materials, which we could easily listen to. Presently, we can participate in almost every conference, whether past or present, on our YouTube channels. You can listen to the bible read, over and over again. You could read along as it is read from your phone. Messages preached in church could be recorded and listened later, or get the messages, on the churches podcast. You must also study the word personally always.

 The word should not just be listened to, but it must saturate your heart and mind. It should fill you to the point that, you would naturally not respond to evil and wrong things.

I once went to town to purchase some items. Whiles, I walked through the midst of the people, I head behind me, the words,’ he is dying. I instinctively responded, ‘where is he? I turned and saw a man collapsing. I quickly rushed there rebuked the Spirit responsible for the condition. I asked of his name from his friends and then I called him. He rose up from the ground, whiles I left.

 I reacted, without thinking about it, because the word had filled my heart.

That is how to get ourselves doing the word of our Lord.

CONFESSION

God’s word is truth, and I am almost always opened up to the word. I give no place to secular matters that have no impact on my faith in God. The word in my heart means, I am ever ready to do what it says.

THOUGHT:  ACTIONS ARE ALWAYS A PRODUCT OF WHAT HAS DOMINATED THE HEART AND MIND

Man is under siege by all kinds of powers, seeking to make a mess of him. From the beginning of creation man has been under siege.

 God crowned man over His creation, and so the arch enemy of God schemed to dethrone man from his exalted position to make nothing out of him.

Satan has succeeded with lies to capture the whole world into his grips, except those who submit to Jesus. Rev 12:9 KJV “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Satan has succeeded in sowing the seed of selfishness in man.

 Selfishness or self-centeredness makes man place himself at the centre of his life.

It tends to make a man feel and live independent of God. Man is a dependent being.

 He is dependent on air, water, and food and effectively dependent on God.

For a man to live independent of God is like a plant trying to survive without the earth.

 This selfish tendency makes man so inward-looking that he loses the great importance of his neighbour and tries to do away with him.

God said from the beginning that, it is not good, that man should be alone. Selfishness indirectly makes men isolate themselves from one another to be alone.

 Hatred, envy, lust, greed, cheating, and lies are all babies of selfishness, which inevitably make men to isolate themselves from others.

They act to refute what God said, that is,” it is not good that a man should be alone”. The result of such acts is pain, hurt and sorrow in the hearts of men. This is a sad state for most people

These tendencies have destroyed marriages, broken nation’s survival, raised armed robbers, corruption at all levels and virtually a decay of our world. Man has become enemies of one another

Jesus came as an answer to this great deception of all men, selfishness. He said you shall love one another as I have loved you (John 13:34,35). How did He love us? He gave His life for us. He was absolutely selfless.

 On the cross, that, old nature of self-centeredness was destroyed, so we could have a new man of selfless love.

If a man would bow to Jesus, he would receive this new man, of selflessness.

 This kind of love, will not steal, it will not envy, it will not commit adultery, it will not curse, it always values the second person and does not take advantage of him or her.

This is the life of laying down love for your neighbour. Only Jesus can do this for you. This kind of love takes away fear and emotional hurts.

It fills you with joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness and self control. This is true freedom. Indeed, if the son will set you free, you shall be free indeed. Marriages would be made strong, armed robbers will lay down their weapons of robbery and men will live harmoniously with one another.

CONFESSION

Jesus has indeed made me free from every selfish nature. He has made me to love my neighbour with His kind of love. I have lasting relationships with my brothers’ sisters, associates, spouse and with every other person. Life has a better meaning with this kind of love.

THOUGHT: JESUS GIVES US A NEW MAN, THAT IS FULL OF THE GOD’S KIND OF LOVE, AND ALSO FREES US FROM SELFISHNESS

We continue with our walk with Jesus through the gospels. Jesus has been talking to the Jews about the effects of serving sin. He then added that despite one being a servant or slave to sin there is a solution to that challenge. He said, ” If the Son, therefore, shall make one free, that person shall be free indeed.” Jesus gives lasting peace. The Lord began that statement with an ” If” which is always used for conditional events. Conditional means certain events or requirements must come to play, to make it possible. What is the condition that must be satisfied for Jesus to make an individual free indeed?

The conditions are as follows,

1. The person must believe that Jesus is able and willing to set him free.

2. He must willingly offer himself in repentance or act on the word of the Lord.

If it is a case of bondage to sin, He must acknowledge the Lord’s willingness and ability to set him free. Must also repent, that is change his mind from submission to that act, to accept the Lordship of Jesus over his life, coupled with a willingness to please the Lord Jesus. With these concepts in place, he can then ask the Lord for freedom from that weakness and an assurance that Jesus has answered and effected that deliverance. This is based on Mark 11:24.” Therefore, I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Jesus sets free from any kind of torment, challenge, burden or bondage of any kind. He gives total and lasting freedom. He said if He sets you free you shall be free indeed. You could be made free by you submitting yourself to be prayed for by another person, mostly a servant of God, who understands how to pray the prayer of faith. James 5:15 KJV “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; ….”. You may also pray for yourself on the basis of the word of God in Mark 11:24. After the prayer you would have to settle it once and for all that the Lord heard and answered that prayer, and that you would not yield to, or accept any symptoms or conditions that may make it appear as if the Lord did not answer your prayer.

There are certain instances when some people keep praying over and over till they see a change. This also works, but the above approach is higher and stronger in the principles of exercising faith in God and the Word.

Thank you, Lord Jesus for your provisions through your cross. I repent from every wrong self-centred way, and I ask you Lord for healing or freedom from every power that hold me bound in Jesus name.
