GOD’S WORK IS TO BELIEVE JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:29 KJV “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

We continue with our discussion on the multitude which came looking for Jesus, because of the food He miraculously produced for them.

The Lord Jesus corrected the multitude who were seeking for Him because of the food he gave them. They then asked him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God? These people asked the right questions. Their question shows they understood what the Lord wanted them to learn. Secondly, they accepted they were in error.

WISDOM IS ALWAYS HIDDEN IN HUMBLE ATTITUDE.

Conversely pride is the bedrock of foolishness. The Lord Jesus explained to them that to believe in Him who was sent by God is actually the work of God. Jesus’ answer was rather profound. He did not talk about doing A or B but said to believe in Him is the work of God.

Now let’s take a few lessons about Jesus. The bible says in Jesus are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge Colossians 2:3. Believing in Him means contacting this store house of wisdom and knowledge. It also means taking every word from His lips as life. In Phil 3:4-9 apostle Paul talked about his great achievement in life and the fact that he stands out among his people. I believe Paul did not marry as a Pharisee, in order to be diligently committed to that cause. He said he was blameless, when it came to the righteousness of the law. Inspite of all these achievements, he said for the excellency of knowing and serving Jesus, he counted all those achievement as dung. No human achievement of any level could be compared to knowing and believing in Jesus.

The Lord Jesus came into this life exercising the dominion which Adam lost. No disease could attach itself to him. No beast, serpent, insect or what have you could attack or afflict him in any way. He had power over the elements of creation. He came to demonstrate to humanity the kind of life God would want man to live. Believing in Him gives us access to walk in that dominion. Man was created as a dwelling place of God and also for God to express Himself on the earth. This was exactly what Jesus came to bring men into. Jesus became the first born of all the children of God, who were begotten by the Spirit of God. They were to be conformed to the image of our Lord Jesus. Rom 8:29. He became our senior brother. We have to believe that we are one with Him. He, the Lord Jesus healed all manner of diseases and exercised authority over nature. He said if we would believe in Him, we would likewise torment the devils. Joh 14:12 KJV “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

GO FOR ETERNAL VERITIES

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:27 KJV “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.”

Someone once asked, is life all about being born, growing up, and dying afterwards? The Lord Jesus told the people who were searching for Him; because they were fed by Him, and were desiring that He would perform that miracle again. Many people are tirelessly following after earthly carnal things, which have no eternal significance. The Lord counselled them to labour for the food which have an eternal value.

Food in this context stand for anything that is of a great importance or satisfaction to you.

Our key scripture advices us not to labour for the food that will perish after some time, but labour for the food that will abide unto eternity. The Lord counsels us not to lay our treasures on this earth, where moth, rust and thieves can break in and steal Matt 6:19. He admonishes us to rather lay up our treasures in heaven., where no moth, rust nor thieves, could break in and steal.

What are some of the foods or things of great importance that will abide forever?

1.The food of winning the lost unto Christ.

John 4:34 KJV “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” The Lord Jesus said winning souls unto the Father is His food. He added, He must complete this work absolutely. This work has a great eternal value. Daniel 12:3

2. Labouring in the word of God for yourself and also to bless others through teaching is another food unto eternal life.1Ti 5:17 KJV “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”

3. We must labour to believe God’s word, so we may enter into our rest as children of God. This is also another spiritual food to satisfy our souls. Heb 4:11 KJV” Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”.

4. There is the eternal blessing of giving into or for the work of God. Every sacrificial seed we give towards the work of God is an eternal food of true satisfaction for all time. The Lord said, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Luke 21:3 KJV “And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:”

5. It is a great call of eternal significance to labour in prayer and to intercede for the lost.1 Timothy 2:1-4. Col 4:12 KJV” Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God”. Dear brother or sister would you enroll in the school of intercession to seek the salvation of souls on your knees.

6. Lastly but not the least, any act of obedience to the word of God or divine counsel is a form of eternal food that brings to us eternal satisfaction.

We were created to bring pleasure to our Father God, and doing it brings us eternal blessings and rewards. May you let the following scripture be your motivation.

Luke 19:17 KJV “And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities”.

THOUGHT: EVERY ACT OF OBEDIENCE OR HONOUR WE BRING TO GOD IS AN ETERNAL MEAT THAT WILL NEVER PERISH

NO CARNAL PURSUIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:26 KJV “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.”

On reading through John 6:24 – 25 we realise the Israelites seeking for Jesus. They took a ship to Capernaum, where He used to live, but did not find Him there. They then went to the other side of the lake, where they found Him. The moment the Lord saw them, He knew the motive for which they tirelessly looked for Him. The Lord Jesus said the following to them, Joh 6:26 KJV ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled”. The Lord said in effect that, these people are not in any way concerned about spiritual matters, but are only concerned about carnal matters, that which would satisfy their flesh.

The above state of affairs is a rather   sad condition prevailing in most churches.

There is a great percentage of church goers who do so, primarily to satisfy some carnal longings.

These include, seeking a life partner, a business breakthrough, visa to travel. A young girl who has found a boyfriend in the church may say,” if I do not go to the church, some girl will get my boyfriend from me”. Her presence in church is all about that boy. You may come to the church initially with such longings, yet as you grow in the faith, your pursuit should be to glorify God in all you do. Many people do not understand what the church is about and her mission on the earth. The church is the body of our Lord Jesus.

The church exists to continue with the work our Lord started; it is the ministry of reconciliation.

This involves saving lives, healing the sick and preaching the good news to them. Every Christian is an automatic soul winner, The Lord Jesus kept doing the business of the Father.

Dear one, why do you go to church? What is your motivation for doing all you do in the house of God? Do you truly love the Lord? Lastly but not the least, do you know the Lord? Those who truly know the Lord will esteem His way above all things. They would seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness. Matt 6:33. Dear one may what the prophet Jeremiah spoke about in Jeremiah 6:13 not happen to us.

” For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.”

The Spirit of the Lord suggests that we ask of the

old paths, the good old ways and walk in them for that is what would bring rest to our souls (Jer 6:16). It is time to repent from every carnal pursuit and seek the Lord in truth. Job 36:11 declares

” If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.”

It is always the will of God that the people of God live honourably and in true prosperity, yet they must place the interest of God first. Love the Lord with all your heart. John 4:34 KJV ” Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”

HIS RESURRECTION OUR JUSTIFICATION

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 4:25 KJV” Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus is a historical event that has positively affected the course of history so much. It was the validity of the resurrection that caused the apostles to boldly preach the gospel to the point that, almost all of them were killed because they claimed Jesus died, resurrected and showed himself alive to them, by many infallible proofs. Acts 1:2-3.

Our key scripture reveals an amazing truth about a very glorious effect of the resurrection to us. It says, He was resurrected for our justification. To be justified is to be made righteous. According to Romans 6:3-5 anyone who comes into Christ is immersed (baptised) into Christ. He is baptised into Jesus’ death and likewise resurrects with Jesus.

The Lord Jesus resurrected with a perfect, sinless righteous nature.

Since we likewise resurrected with Him, we also have that same sinless, righteous nature. This is the reason the bible says in Rom 4:25, that He was raised for our justification. We have a righteous nature like Jesus.

Colossians 1:22 reads ” In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:” This is how you are in God’s sight. It says you are Holy; you are unblameable and unreproveable. If you stand in the sight of God with such an impeccable nature, why do you carry that consciousness of sin?

The weakness of many Christians is because they believe they have a sinful nature.

This is a very big error committed by many Christians, and even some ministers of the gospel. Note: You are what you believe. Refuse to accept that you are a sinner or you have a sinful nature.

Let’s consider another scripture in that light. 1st Corinthians 6:11 KJV

” And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

In 1st Corinthians 6:10, the scripture referred to some weaknesses or sinful lifestyle, but commented that such were their lifestyle before Christ,  yet now they have been washed, sanctified and justified. Dear child of God, you resurrected with Jesus, with a righteous nature. Believe it,  confess it to yourself till it becomes, your present hour consciousness. According to God’s word you are Holy, and you are justified. Let sin in any form cease with you right now.

CONFESSION

I resurrected with Jesus, having a righteous nature just like Him. I am Holy and justified before the Father. I am unblameable and unreproveable. I do not have a sin consciousness, but rather the very nature of righteousness.

THOUGHT:I AM RESURRECTED WITH JESUS, THEREFORE , I HAVE A RIGHTEOUS NATURE LIKE HIM.

TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:22 KJV “The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;”

The Lord Jesus and His disciples got to the shores of the sea to the amazement of all the men that stood by at the shore. They saw the disciples go without the Lord. Now they return and Jesus is sitting in that very boat. I believe this made them to wonder and ask lots of questions. All these come to the conclusion that our Lord Jesus is highly unpredictable and men must put their trust in Him. No one can be very certain about the Lord responding normally like any other man. When He heard about Lazarus condition, he waited for an extra four days, till he died. It was easier naturally to heal a dying man, than to wait for him to die for four days, before waking him up, is really an incredible matter. The bible says everyone born of the Spirit works in the same unpredictable way Joh 3:8 KJV “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” This description refers to all children of GOD.

The scripture reveals that it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the child of God who enables the child of God to do things that beat the imagination of ordinary mortals. One needs to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to bring forth such amazing feats. What could be the secret of the Lord Jesus that helped Him to achieve all these miracles. The first thing to consider was His prayer life. On some occasions He would spend the whole night in prayer unto the Father (Luke 6:12). The Lord did nothing without the prompting of the Holy Spirit. He consistently depended on the Holy Spirit. The child of God supposed to do same if he or she would follow the path of Jesus. Once the disciples of Jesus asked Him in John 6:28 KJV “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” The Lord answered that this is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.

The Father has said the following about His Son Jesus. Hebrews 1:2 KJV “(God)Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; What is the word of the Lord Jesus to men? Mat 28:19 KJV “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: ” To believe the Son is to do what He instructs us to do. The Lord Jesus gave lots of instructions. Our call is to place our trust in the Lord Jesus which means doing what He has instructed us.

According to Him, this is the work of God, that is to believe in Him.

BE GLAD

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:21 ISV” So they were glad to take him on board, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going”.

The Lord Jesus finally entered the ship of the disciples, and the scriptures said, they were glad. Gladness is an expression of joy as a result of the fulfillment of a desired state of affairs. The disciples were only happy or glad because the master entered their boat. The Christian is supposed to be joyful every day, because Jesus is always in his live. Philippians 4:4 ISV “Keep on rejoicing in the Lord at all times. I will say it again: Keep on rejoicing!”  The bible also says the heart of joy is medicine to the whole body. Prov 17:22 KJV “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” These are some of the reasons the Spirit of God instructs us to be joyful always. He reminds us to rejoice in the Lord. This means to count our successes in the light of the successes and victories of Jesus as ours.

Some Christians understand that our place and the blessings in Christ are positional and not experiential. This is one of the errors that some Christians make and so, fail to experience the joy of the Lord. How are we

saved?  We believe in the finished work of Jesus as we acknowledge Him as the Lord of our lives. As a result of this, we believe, we are saved and even ready to enter heaven, if the Lord should appear right now. In Christ we are blessed with all spiritual blessings. Faith in the word makes what we anticipate to get in the future very real now (Heb 11:1). By faith we are accepted in the beloved and so, we rejoice about it. By faith we are masters over all devils, including Satan himself. With that understanding, if any demon or the devil should manifest right now, we have the right, or authority of Jesus to cast out that devil. Rejoicing in the Lord simply means all the victory or conquering of Jesus is now ours, for real. It is not going to be ours some days or time to come. We rejoice and celebrate in the Lord about it. It has all got to do with our Lord Jesus, whose righteousness has become presently our righteousness, His authority is our authority, His victory over Satan is our victory over Satan. This is what it means to rejoice in Jesus always.

Why are some Christians not glad or joyful? The answer is that, they walk by the flesh. When an individual lives according to the flesh, he fights every difficulty by his strength, He sees all the wrong things that has not changed and therefore becomes anxious and loses his joy. If he should be spiritual, that is to be controlled by the word, he sees from the word that says all his burdens were put on Jesus. Although this individual may have some challenges, he counts on the faithfulness and integrity of the word, and so, he rejoices and says if the word says it, he believes it, and that settles it.

Spirituality is the basis for a continual victorious and subsequently, a very joyful life

DO NOT BE AFRAID

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:20 KJV” But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.”

The Lord came to the struggling disciples by walking on the water. He said to them, It is I, do not be afraid. The psychologist say fear is a natural instinct that helps people avoid danger. Despite this view, in ninety nine out of a hundred incidences, fear has produced very devastating effects to those who allowed it to control them. The child of God does not live for himself or herself. She is on this earth to show forth the praises or mighty   deeds of the one who saved him out of darkness into His marvelous light. It is therefore the Father’s duty to make sure that His name is glorified in you. You cannot be trusting in Him, for Him to fail you. The Lord cannot and has never failed. Since the creation of the world the sun has never failed to shine. God is forever faithful.

Fear is faith in the enemy. Refuse to believe in the enemy. Fear means refusing to acknowledge the presence and protection of the Lord. Accept that, the Lord is always with you. Fear is to pitch your strength against the impending danger and realising you can’t match up; you then go into an emotional feeling of insecurity. Face all situations by acknowledging the Almighty power of God in you. Fear is focusing on that negative condition such that it builds in you pictures of destruction and ultimate failure or even death. Now, focus on the word of God. Dear one Fear has torment. Fear makes you subjective, such that you bow to the evil condition and your whole system, or body finally accepts that negative condition. Fear also means to conceive an evil seed which would be given birth to, if you do not destroy it early enough. You must rather fill your heart with the word of God.

It is easier for the Christian to build up faith in his heart than Fear, our system or whole being, by virtue of our new birth in Jesus, is designed to believe the Lord and act on his word rather than being afraid. Many fear because they loose sight of the fact that, the Lord is always with them. He is the Almighty God who cannot lie. He can’t be defeated by anything. He would only manifest His delivering power if you acknowledge Him in that moment of trial. You do that by refusing to be agitated and rather to be unmoved or shaken. Remember, He said I will never leave you nor forsake you.

One thing to do is to always practice the presence of the Lord.

Put your faith into action any time an occasion shows up.

The practice of your faith will make it strong to trust God in dire moments. Psalms 23:4 KJV”

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”.

The testimony of the psalmist is that, the Lord is with him. Do not be afraid. Your victory is His victory so keep standing for Him. Always declare ‘the Lord is with me’.

ASSURING WORDS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:20 KJV” But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.”

The Lord Jesus walked on the water to the disciples who were been terrified by the raging storms. He knew His presence, as He walked on the water will definitely induce or complicate their fears.

The first words He said was, it is I, be not afraid”

The Lord Jesus’ presence consistently manifested peace, safety and blessings. He never put fear or torment on any one. Those who reject His kindness fall into their own chosen misery.

The Lord is love manifested in human form.

1 John 4:8. In John 8:1-12, the Jewish religious zealots brought a woman, they accused of committing adultery. The Lord found a way to release her from their wickedness. He asked let the one who has no sin cast the first stone. Everyone left. The Lord said to her neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more. The Lord did not put her down, but lifted her up.

The scriptures instruct us to season our words with salt. Col 4:6 KJV

Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Harsh cutting words do not only break the heart and emotion of our hearers, they defile you the one speaking them. Words carry no physical touch or corporal impact, yet their impact is more severe than any physical attack. Words can leave a lifetime effect on an individual. Be always mindful of the words you throw at others. The scriptures advices us to be slow to talk. Decide that you would let your words lift, bless, encourage and inspire.

The scripture shows us the various categories of people and how to talk to them.1Th 5:14 KJV ” ” Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”

To the unruly we warn or are firm with them. To the feeble minded, we comfort or strengthen them, whiles the weak are supported. The underlying approach to all men is patience. The bases to developing such sweet spirit in relating to all men is to allow the word of God to richly fill your heart. Col 3:16 KJV” Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord “.

JESUS WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:19 KJV” So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.”

Jesus disciples were in deep crisis, the winds were harsh and terrible, blowing against them. These were fishermen who were very used to certain adversities of the ocean, yet this particular condition was beyond their experience. To their amazement, they saw somebody walking on the water, towards them. They soon realised   it was the Lord. The Lord had seen them in trouble a long time ago , so He was coming to correct the trouble which had risen against them. Consider it,  He came in style. The very problem that was tormenting them, was the very thing He was walking over. He demonstrated that, the storm raging at them was under His feet. The lesson we wish to learn out of this is that He is greater than evert problem, and will never leave you under any condition. He would surely be present to answer your prayers.

Let’s consider what the bible said about this issue. Hebrews 13:5 KJV “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” In the original meaning, it gives an emphasis here. It says, ,I will, never leave you, no never, no never. This is a very strong word. It is a sure statement that He would always stand by you. Dear one believe it. Believing is the only means we gain access to stand in God’s world of grace and power. Rom 5:2 KJV “By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand…….” No child of God will be any way miserable if all will simply believe in the ever-abiding presence and the readiness of the Lord to deliver His own from all crises.

When the Lord instructed the church about the great commission, he said, lo I am with you always, even to the end of the ages. Matt 28:20b. He fulfilled it in Mark 16:20, where the scripture said,” they went everywhere preaching the gospel, the Lord working with them, confirming the word with signs and wonders following it”. Every child of God must be more than convinced that Jesus is always with them. In this time, we don’t ask Him to be with us, like it happened in the case of the disciples, where they had to be somewhere for Jesus to come. In our case He is ever with us. In actual fact He is our life, and so ,if we are present at any place, then the  Lord is also there. Amen.

WHEN CHALLENGES RISE UP

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:18 KJV “And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.”

Challenges are a normal part of human experiences. Challenges may make you bitter or better, depending on how you handle them. Challenges bring out the difference between lives that are built on the rock, that is on Jesus and those that are built on the sand or any other foundation. (Matthew 7 :23-27). Challenges can be Satan’s program to break the faith of the children of God, but God, our Father may allow them to make all things work together for our good, according to Romans 8:28.

In the case of Jesus’ disciples, the storms began to rage against them as they were travelling on the sea.

The real problem in facing challenges to a number of believers is that many believers have the wrong understanding, concerning why challenges come, and so, they put up a wrong attitude when these challenges come.

James, the Apostle says you must count it all joy when you face divers’ kinds of temptations. He ended up with his point by saying, that after you have gone through, you will become perfect and entire wanting nothing. According to the bible, they come to make you better, so do not allow them to depress you.

Our master Jesus encountered challenges throughout His thirty-three years on earth. King Herod started chasing Him as a baby. The Pharisees and the religious leaders were at His heels throughout His ministry days, till they finally crucified Him. The devil opposed Him openly, and behind the scenes. In all these the Lord was never moved or perturbed. How did He do it. The Lord maintained an attitude of dominion. He knew He had come into this world to win over the devil and to show men how to live in a world where Satan is illegally ruling it.

We have to learn from the master how to maintain the Spirit of dominion in all situations. The resurrected life of the child of God is the Spirit of dominion. Acknowledge always that the greater one lives in you. In John 3:31, the Lord said He that is from above is above all. This was one of His grounds for exercising dominion over every earthly situation that came His way. We were born from above and so we are likewise from above and therefore above all. Please meditate on this till it takes a hold of your mind. Any condition that induces fear makes one subjective to that condition. The devil will have the upper hand if you begin to fear. No matter what happens, refuse to be afraid.
