THOSE WHO HEAR

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:25 KJV “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live”.

The word of God is saturated with divine life to raise any dead person or thing. Well, in the context of our key scripture, what kind of dead people is the Lord talking about? This is definitely not referring to the physically dead. If it meant the physically dead people, then they had no choice to respond or not. Our key scripture talks about those who can hear. The Lord in this verse is referring to the spiritually dead people, or what will be described as the living dead. Any man born into this world is spiritually dead, or better still, a living dead according to Romans 5:12 ” Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so, death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”. It is the influence of death in the life of a man, that produces every negative thing, one, could imagine. All truth is parallel, so, as decay works in a physically dead person, so does evil, demons and negative acts are produced in spiritually dead people.

According to our key scripture the word of our Lord Jesus has enough life and power to raise you from that state. You may be a drunkard, and feeling very defeated and miserable, do not close your condition to fate. The word of God is coming with resurrection life. All you need is to receive it with your heart. Many listens but do not hear, because they do not prepare their hearts to submit to what they may be listening to. The Lord says if only you can hear him, life would come to you. You may be suffering from a disease that seems incurable, you can receive the healing you anticipate and desire if only you would make up your mind to turn from your condition and accept the message of salvation or healing for your body.

In the light of what the Lord says, it is not your condition that is impossible to change, but your ability to hear his call to get up from that condition.

Why do many fail to hear?

1. Some are so engrossed in their sin such that they are not ready to hear the life  saving words from the Lord Jesus. Isaiah 59:1-2, informs us that, it is not God’s hand which cannot save, but the sin of people which separates or keeps them away.

2. Some are also not able to hear because they have become so used to their condition. They do not accept any new thing.

3. Others do not hear because the god of this world or the demons of darkness blind their minds and hearts from hearing. 2nd Corinthians 4:4

4. There are those who do not hear because they oppose the truth, because they are deceived. 2nd Timothy 3:13

I want to help you hear. Just consider your state;

Are you satisfied with the way you are living?

Do you have the peace of heart that passes all understanding?

Are you certain about a blissful heavenly home?

Why are you so fearful?

If your answers to these questions are no, then you need to hear the Lord today.

To hear him, you must put aside any thing that takes you from the Lord.

You must forget about your self-importance for a moment and accept the goodness and greatness of Jesus.

Say to Him, you believe in Him and make Him Lord of your life. Tell Him you will submit your life to Him. Thank Him for saving you. Rejoice for your salvation.

THOUGHT: IT IS YOUR CHOICE WHETHER YOU EXPERIENCE GOD’S SAVING POWER OR NOT.

JESUS TESTIMONY ABOUT THE FATHER

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:24 KJV “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

The Lord said, he that hears my word and believes on Him that sent me has everlasting life. The mission of our Lord Jesus, was to bring man to his original relationship with the father. Man was created to fellowship with God, and to be an access way for God to relate with His creation. It was God in Adam that enabled, him to name all the creatures of the earth. God dwelt in man and conferred all authority on man. Gen 1:26. The presence of God in man was what made him alive unto God. He was spiritually alive. The day he disobeyed God, and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he lost the presence of God, and so man died spiritually. Rom 5:12. The Lord came down to this earth to restore that relationship between God and men.

What was the message of the Son about the Father to men? John 3:16.”For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Men are to believe in the love of the Father. The Lord reveals the unquenchable love of the Father in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) He demonstrates the anger of God against satanic oppression that assaults men with diseases. This was seen, as the Lord went about healing the sick (Acts 10:38). He teaches about God’s love for the sinner and simultaneously His fury against sin. The Lord Jesus unveils the loving heart of God, for all men, and His anger against sin.

In the Light of these revelations about the heart of the Father towards men, each one must repent from all sinful ways and accept the love of the Father. This is the only way to find true meaning in life.

Until a man comes to the point of total surrender to the authority of God, he or she is a miserable wonderer in this world.

He keeps chasing for satisfaction and indulges the flesh in all kinds of pleasure. At the end of the day, he finds himself miserable and empty. This is not what the Lord Jesus intends for you. John 10:10 KJV” The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Stop yielding to the thief of your soul and surrender to Jesus.

HONOUR THE LORD JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:23 KJV “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.”

Our key scripture reveals that, God our father has given all power to the Son so that men would honour the Son. Indeed, He is the only name given among men, whereby we might be saved. The truth is that Jesus Christ is the mystery of God revealed and explained to us. He is the word of God, which is God, but took on flesh and came to dwell among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth. (John 1:1,14) As He said, if you have seen Him, then you have seen the Father. His life is a revelation of the will of the Father. Whatever one seeks to know about the Father is demonstrated in Him.

To give honour to the Son is to give honour to the Father. What does it mean to give honour to the Son?

1. It means to esteem His words very highly above every other thing or person. Matt 6:33

2. To honour Him is to believe in Him. John 6:29 KJV “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

3. To honour the Son is to love Him dearly.

Ephesians 6:24 KJV” Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity”

4. To honor Him is to forsake sin. The Lord suffered and died so that men would be free from sin. Romans 6:14. Sin defeats God’s number one purpose for creating man. That is to fellowship with man.

5. To honour the Son is to bear fruits of righteousness and souls of men. John 15:8, James 3:18.

6. To honour Jesus is to put Him first in everything. In fact, you make yourself insignificant, and that it is Him that matters. Colossians 1:18, Philippians 1:21

How can one truly honour the Son? Accept your death with Him. Now it is Christ, who is alive in you. (Galatians 2:20) Secondly, it is the task of the Holy Spirit to help you honour the Lord. John 16:14 KJV “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to honour and glorify the Son. This comes about as we fellowship with the Spirit. The hidden truths and realities about our Lord Jesus are revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. He makes Jesus real to us, so that we could positively relate with Him. Ask the Holy Spirit for His assistance in prayer, study of the word and also a positive response to the word of God.

What happens when Jesus is honoured?

You cannot remain insignificant when you lift up the master. The donkey that carried Jesus, walked on humans’ cloths and the singing of hosanna. (Mark 11:8) That particular donkey was not known by people, until, it carried the master. It was the call to honour the master, that set it free from bondage (Mark 8:2). Your decision to honour the master, would free you from every bondage. KEEP LIFTING JESUS HIGH UP IN ALL YOU DO.

THOUGHT: HONOURING CHRIST PAVES A WAY FOR YOUR LIFTING IN LIFE.

JESUS OUR JUDGE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:22 KJV” For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:”

Our Lord Jesus is the judge of the world. Why has the Father placed the judgement of all mankind in the hands of the Lord? Jesus. He is the eternal word of God. It is the word that would judge all men. John 12:48 KJV “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” No one will escape or may be able to defend himself because he has even made his word plain to their hearts. The Lord will judge all men, because he lived as a man and never sinned. Hebrews 4:15 KJV “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” He is very qualified to judge all.

The following are the principles for judging all men.

1. Men will be judged with righteous judgement (Acts 17:31, Psalms 96:13)

2. Men would be judged according to God’s holy standards, Romans 2:6, 10, 11, Revelations 22:12)

3. Men would be judged according to their attitude to Christ (John 12:41, Luke 12:8-9)

4. Men would be judged according to the measure of light and opportunity given to them. (Matthew 11:21-24)

5. Men will be judged by the infallible and omniscient judge Jesus Christ. There will be no chance of mistaken judgement, for He has all the hidden facts, deeds, motives, and thoughts of men, before him. (Ecclesiastes 12:14)

6. Men would be convinced of the righteousness of God’s judgement upon them. All will acknowledge that it is absolute justice meted upon their thoughts, words, deeds and motives. (Jude 14:15, Matt 12:37, Rom 2:15:16, Luke 19:22)

Finally let’s consider the purpose for which all men would be judged by Christ

1. To reveal the true character of each person. (Matthew 10:26, 1 Corinthians 4:5)

2.  To determine the value of all works of men. (1st Corinthians 3:13)

3. To render public reward or punishment, as men are not always punished or rewarded in this life. (Matt 16:27, Rom 2:8,9, Rev 22:12)

4. To vindicate the righteousness of God in His dealings with men. His Justice will be acknowledged. (Rev 19:1& 2)

If men would surely be judged by the omniscient and righteous One, what kind of life ought you to live?

THE SON AND THE FATHER ARE ONE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:21 KJV “For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.”

The father and the Son are one. Whatever the father does, the father has power to make alive and the Son also has the ability to quicken and make alive. He says he can do it according to his own choice. The Pharisees had earlier remarked that, if Jesus said God was His Father, then he being a man, was making himself God. The Lord through this discourse was revealing to them, that He was indeed one with the father. The Lord made the following about His relation with the father. John 14:9 KJV “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” Some have tried to argue that Jesus says nowhere in the scriptures that. He is God.

Please just take a look at the above scripture. He did not say I have been with you for a long time, and you have not KNOWN THE FATHER, BUT RATHER HE SAID, YOU HAVE NOT KNOWN ME. If He had said you have not known the father, then it would mean he was just representing the father, but since He said you have not known me, then He was revealing His unique identity. He said if you have seen me then you have seen the father. He said indirectly that I am one with the Father. Let’s consider this other scripture as well. Isaiah 9:6 KJV “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Please just consider the above scripture. This was a prophecy about the Messiah. The verse after this clearly reveals this is talking about the Lord Jesus, who would be a king in the lineage of King David. In the verse 6, the scripture said, He would be called, the mighty God, The everlasting Father. Jesus is the mighty God, Hallelujah! He would also be called the everlasting Father. This agrees perfectly with the New Testament statement, that says, if you have seen me, then you have seen the Father. Jesus is God.

GOD’S FAVOUR

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:20 KJV “For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.”

Our key scripture is speaking about the favour of God. The father favours (love’s) the Son, and shows Him everything he does. The word favour is not a term that happens to people by chance, no! There are always definite steps or actions that one has to take that attracts God’s favour. Just consider the following statement about the Lord Jesus. John 8:29 KJV “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” The scripture says, the Lord Jesus always does that which pleases the father. This is what makes the father to be with Him always. Favour is all about the Father being with you to face all life issues. Gen 39:2 KJV “And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.”

Joseph a slave boy, foreigner, prospered in the period of his servitude because God was with him. God helped him all through. He caused men to honour him, and therefore he excelled. Many admire the effects and results of a favoured life, yet are not ready to meet the terms for favour. The Lord said the following to Priest Eli, in 1 Samuel 2:30b as follows:”….. for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” This verse says it all. Those who honour the Lord by fearing His word and staying away from evil, will definitely attract the presence of God to go through various life situations with them. The Lord said, my father is ALWAYS with me because, I do that which pleases Him. What is the one main thing that pleases the Father? It is to win souls.

Winning souls into the kingdom of God is one of the major acts that really pleases the father.

In Luke 2:49 the Lord calls it the father’s business.

In John 4:34, He calls it my meat or food.

In Matthew 28:19 He calls it discipling the world.

In John 9:4 He says it is my assignment.

In John 15:8 He calls it the Father’s glory

In John 15:16 He says it is means for answered prayers.

Dear child of God, the call to win souls is the father’s heart desire or his heart beat. Anyone who engages in it would definitely attract the father’s presence to favourably relate with him. Remember that in our passage of discussion, the Lord had been involved in the work of winning the lost, that made the Father to reveal all things to Him.

PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SPIRIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:19 KJV”: Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.:”

The Lord says in the above verse that, He does nothing out of His own volition. He does it by the power of God, His father, and does what He sees the father do. What does this statement mean? This point is made clearer by the following statement, the Lord made. John 14:10 BBE ” Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works.” Who is the Father in Him.? This is the Holy Spirit. The Lord is revealing a very great truth about what brings Him, so much success in His ministry. His absolute dependence on the Holy Spirit.

How does the Lord get to know and receive from the Holy Spirit what He wants from Him. This was seen in His consistent prayer life? Luke 6:12 BBE “And it came about in those days that he went out to the mountain for prayer; and he was all night in prayer to God. “The night of the Jews in bible days was from six pm to the next morning six am (6pm to 6am) This was a twelve-hour time. He might not have prayed throughout all the twelve-hour period, but a great part of the night. Prayer increases sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Prayer also raises one’s confidence in God, that is, it strengthens faith in God. The Lord’s times of prayer was not only about request for various needs, but to enquire about what he had to do.

Every child of God must also be involved in asking the Lord for definite directions about every important step in life.

Remember the Lord said, ” seek and you shall find.” I believe the many mistakes in ministry, business, marriage and other areas of life would have been avoided if the children of God would have developed their prayer life, such that, they could easily know what God wants them to do in various instances of life. Individual success and a corresponding fulfillment in life, would have been the experience of many. All we need to do, is to   always seek for the counsel of the Spirit. Dear child of God, we are in partnership with the Holy Spirit, and must never act without Him. He is our Counsellor, and guide in life.

MISUNDERSTANDING THE TRUTH

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:18 KJV “Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

These Jews were very furious with Jesus because, they said, he had broken the sabbath and even wanted to kill him because he called God his Father. This meant he was equal with God. As discussed in our earlier studies religion does not build any relationship with God.

Religion creates followers of God, who misunderstand very basic operations of God, because they do not have any relationship with Him.

The sabbath is to liberate man from the stresses of life. It is not to suppress a man from expressing joy and fulfillment. The Lord asked the man to carry his mat not as a load or burden, but an expression of victory over the disease which has tormented him for thirty-eight years. These religious individuals had a big problem with that.

The Holy Spirit speaking through apostle Paul, said the following in Philippians 3:2 that “Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of concision.

Why does the Holy Spirit refer to these religious individuals as dogs? Their lack of understanding makes them attack those who live in the truth. These people wanted to kill Jesus because He said God was His Father. Everyone who is born again is a son of God. God is our Father. This is by grace. We stand in a far superior level than ordinary mortals. We are partakers of the divine nature.

Religion is about what one does to be acceptable before God.

Religious people are conscious of what their efforts have brought them, and so they do not understand what grace makes those who believe.

The Christian does not become anything by effort. He has become a participator of all that God is because he believed in what the Lord said He has done for him.

We are not anything by ourselves, rather our sufficiency is of God, for He has made us able ministers or servants of His, according to 2nd Corinthians 3:5 & 6. We are one with Christ 1st Corinthians 6:17 We are even superior to all devils Luke 10:19. There is a surpassing great power at work in us which is according to the power God He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from death. Eph 1;19,20. All these and many more is what we are, not by any effort that we made. It is all by grace through faith. Many Christians are living defeated lives because they are religious, counting on what their efforts could bring to them. They do not understand the scriptures. According to , Heb 11:3, we  understand by faith. Religious ones will not believe. They want to earn everything. They are so much engulfed in their self-effort that, they cannot appreciate and understand the truth.

WHAT IS THE ACID TEST THAT ONE IS RELIGIOUS?

SUCH A PERSON ALMOST ALWAYS HAS A PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER, OR HE HAS AN OFFENCE AGAINST ANOTHER

Anybody could be a religious person, a pastor, an elder, a deacon or church member. Religious people would miss heaven because they have no relationship with Jesus. Repent today and surrender to Him.

HANDLING MISTAKES OF OTHERS

KEY SCRIPTURE; John 5:15 KJV “The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.”

After the first (the impotent man who laid by the poolside for thirty-eight years) encounter with the master, that resulted in his healing, he was met by the Jewish religious leaders, who enquired about why he was carrying his mat on the sabbath day. He told them, the man who healed me asked me to carry it. After some time, he met the Lord Jesus in the synagogue who instructed him, not to go and live in sin any longer. It was here, that he knew that the Lord Jesus, was the one who healed him. When he met the Jewish leaders again, he now told them it was Jesus who asked him to carry his mat. The Jewish religious leaders, as a result of this decided to persecute Jesus, and even wanted to kill him.

When the Lord knew it, he never got mad with the formally impotent man. He rather addressed the Pharisees this way, my father is working and so I also work. This man’s statement to the Jewish leaders, actually called for the fury of these religious leaders. The Lord was not in any way moved by the supposed mistake of the man. Why was he not offended about the action of this man? I believe he did not just consider the outcome of the man’s action, but realised that, he acted out of a very sincere mind, not knowing that these Jewish religious leaders would act that way. He (the Lord) also acknowledged that the real evil doers were the religious leaders.

Many people get very offended with certain individuals because the outcome of their actions was very severe or may be injurious. Please, do not use an outcome of one’s actions to judge him. Consider dispassionately the merits and the demerits of the people involved, as well as their actions or inactions to know why one did what he did. The Lord carried the issue from the human plane to His relationship with His father. We as children of God should not allow our actions to be a response to what men may be doing or saying. His statement meant, I am not going to stop what my father has asked me to do, He is working, and has given me an assignment to do, and so I am going on with it.

There are some choristers who stop singing because certain people started commenting negatively about them. Who called you? Who are you singing for? Some even stop going to church because a job given to them was given to another person. Stop reacting to the actions and inactions of people. Settle it once and for all that it is God who saved you, and called you, and so you must be ultimately accountable to him.

THOUGHT: YOU ARE WISE IF YOU MAINTAIN YOUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS, BUT A FOOL IF YOU DERAIL TO REACT TO WHAT SATAN IS SAYING OR DOING THROUGH MEN

GO AND SIN NO MORE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 5:14 KJV “Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.”

The Lord asked the man, healed of paralysis not to go and sin any longer. How can one stay and not be sinning? Please note; any instruction from the master has a divine enabling ability within that word. It is up to you to decide to accept God’s instruction and then you will see yourself acting in line. When Jesus asked the man to take his mat and go, he did not question, he acted on the word. If he says sin no more, act on that word too.

Is it possible to live above sin? The scripture reveals that sin shall not have the dominion over you. Romans 6:14. Sin in any man has two sources. These are the flesh and demonic sources. The main area to control the flesh, is to feed the mind with the truth, that is, certain verses of Scripture that shows our victory over sin. Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you Ps 119:11.

The following passages will help a lot in dealing with the power of sin over the child of God. These passages are Romans 6:1-23, Romans 7:1-25, Romans 8:1-39. If the cause of sin comes from demonic sources, then you may need the assistance of another individual who can counsel and pray with you. You can also pray and resist those evil influences and it will depart from you (James 4:7). Understand that actions do not start in the flesh, they begin in the mind. Feed your mind with the truth, and the truth will make you free. (John 8:32) As you work on yourself, beware of external influences. Check the influence of bad friends, wrong films on television or your mobile devices. Delete numbers of people who will cause your love for Christ to reduce.

Now you must understand that sins of the flesh also proceed from

the longings of the flesh (wrong appetite) as well as the fears of the flesh. It is the fears of the flesh that gives birth to pride, lies, and basically secret sins in the heart.

You need to understand your place in Jesus. You died with Him and resurrected with Him. It is Christ Who is alive in you. Galatians 2:20. You no longer live for yourself.

No longer any sense of self praise, self-worth or self-esteem. It is now Christ praise, Christ esteem and Christ worth.

Phil 1:20. You now live to magnify Jesus and not yourself. It is all about Jesus and nothing about self or you. If you would understand these things and commit yourself to live by them, sin would have no place in you.

(Pray these things into your life. Tell yourself, it is not about you, it is all about Jesus)
