DO NOT SEEK THE PRAISE OF MEN

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:1 KJV “Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.”

Our Lord Jesus after talking about a number of issues, instructed His audience not to do their alms before men, in a bid to gain the praises of men. This is a topic a number of us may say it is a very simple matter, and that, we do not make noise about the good deeds we do. I believe this is an issue that touches on a lot of aspects about our life. There are certain choir members who strife among themselves so they would be the lead singers. They do all these things in order to attract the praises of men. There are some preachers who preach to show how eloquent they are. Some people do whatever they do in order to attract the praises of their bosses. In the absence of their bosses, they would do whatever they like. In our passage of discussion, the Lord teaches that, there is a reward from the Lord for whatever kindness we show. Always focus on the rewards God has for you. Do all your good deeds according to His terms.

Apostle Paul tells the brethren in Colossians to do everything not as unto men but unto God. Col 3:23 KJV” And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; “Dear child of God, men are not our ultimate judges but God. He would reward us now, and at the last day. There are many of us who are not able to promptly obey God because of the views of those we claim to admire. If Abraham had enquired of the views of others, could he have presented Isaac as a sacrifice in obedience to God? Apostle Paul says when the Lord called him, he conferred not with flesh and blood. (Galatians 1:16) Do not interfere your service of God with the acknowledgement of men.

When the Lord was giving, the criteria that qualifies one to be His disciples, he said in Luke 14:26 KJV, “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” To qualify to be a follower of Jesus, no man must interfere or come between you and Him. He is either the first or not at all. The Christian life is the relationship between man and God with the resultant effect towards men. It is never the relationship between man and man and the resultant effect towards God. God is the reason for our existence. It is that which pleases Him that matters. What really pleases God, is to love all men, and be a blessing to them, yet, do not seek man’s praises, for it is God who would reward you. Put God first always.

CONFESSION.

Thank you, Lord, for your abundant blessings, I likewise express this kindness towards all men, knowing that, it is your goodness that has enabled me to do so. I do not seek the praises of men, Thank you Lord.

BE PERFECT

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:48 KJV “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

The Lord Jesus after talking about various topics added that we must be perfect. He said we must be perfect even as our Father in heaven  is perfect. Would God ask us to do something we cannot do? Every instruction of God or command has within the word the power to fulfill the instruction. 1John 5:3 KJV” For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” It is to our good to accept  this instruction to be perfect. All things are possible to him that believes Mark 9:23

HOW can one lead a perfect life.? .

1. Accept the word with all your heart, and say, I will be perfect just as my father is perfect. Whenever you believe the word you receive a transforming power to become what that word says.. Rom 12:2a KJV” And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,…… “.This verse says it all. Perfection is beyond human achievement. It takes the supernatural power of God working through a man, to make him perfect. This takes place as you yield to every instruction of scripture. Within every instruction lies the ability for its fulfillment. Commitment to the word is the vital step that releases the miracle power within that word of God.

2. Love the Lord with all your heart. Imperfection is always a function fear. 1Jn 4:18 KJV” There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love..” God values men who love Him very highly. The Lord rightly says in 1 Corinth 8:2&3. If a man says he has knowledge then he knows nothing at all , but the man who loves God, God says he knows him. Daniel was described as a perfect man because he loved the Lord. (Daniel 6:3).A lover will do anything to please his Lord even at the peril of his life.

3. One must know exactly what the Lord says. When a man is rightly instructed in the word, he would know what is expected, to be done. Rom 10:2 KJV “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.”

These people could not please God because they had no proper knowledge of God’s right ways. Get to know the truth, and it will make you free.

CONFESSION

I am born of the Spirit of God. I have the ability of the Spirit within me. I manifest the life of the Spirit as I yield to Him. The Spirit of God is the agent of perfection.

LOVE YOUR ENEMIES

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:44 KJV t9 “. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”

This time the Lord Jesus taught that we must love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use us. The underlying taught in all these teaching is that we should be non violent and kind to all men. It takes one dominated by the Spirit of Christ to exhibit this virtue. Some Christians find such teachings very repulsive. There are a number of Christians who feel very bitter about all kinds of mistreatments metered to them either by their close associates or people they encounter. The Lord Jesus proved this trait when He was crucified on the cross. He prayed and asked for forgiveness for them. Stephen, also did the same. When he was been stoned, He prayed for forgiveness for those who were killing him. Act 7:60 KJV “And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep”.

How can one love His enemies? Every child of God must come to terms with the power of the supernatural life at work in him. Every Christian have passed from death to life. He has ceased to be a natural man. As a man acknowledges that he is a supernatural man, he has the realization and ability to do supernatural things. Secondly when a man grows in the knowledge of God through consistent fellowship, he naturally develops the God kind of heart towards all men. Thirdly the more spiritual one grows the more he will not value carnal things like anger and vindictiveness to dominate him, but to show love and mercy. This life of love, mercy and forgiveness, is the normal life of the child of God. The one who forgives has set himself free from slavery to the one who hurt him. (You are always a slave to the actions of those you hate)

Dear brother, to be bitter towards those who hurt you is to weaken your ability to face and overcome difficult people. Note also that you would always face people who would offend you and act in very selfish ways. Please do heed to the Lord’s counsel. Learn to love all persons. Praying for people is one of the practical ways to overlook their shortcomings and accept them. Dear husband, start praying for your wife, whose actions and outbursts has been putting you on urge. Tell the Lord you love her and the spirit of the Lord should help her out of that negative behaviours. Wife you must likewise pray for your abusive husband. After praying this way, most of the negative emotions towards each other will easily go away.

You would be able to accept your partner in spite of his or her shortcomings. The same also goes for others who may be offending you. Please pray for them, and show kindness to them

CONFESSION

Thank you, Lord, for the heart of love for all persons. I do not curse those who hurt me, but rather I pray for them and bless them. I am able to love them more because of the power of your Spirit in me. Thank you, Lord,

DO NOT SWEAR

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:34 KJV” But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:”

On the sermon on the mount our Lord Jesus treated a number of topics concerning the right ways to live with ourselves, relating to others and also relating rightly to God. The Lord said among the many things that, we should not swear. Swearing is to affirm a statement with an oath. Swearing normally comes from a desperate moment in which an individual seeks to prove the truthfulness of a matter. We find that in our law courts witnesses are made to swear before they make their statement. How is this related to the Lord’s statement, asking us not to swear? I believe the Lord meant in our day-to-day experiences; we must not swear. The Law courts are state authorities that has instituted this mode of giving statements and should be observed as such. The same goes for state offices like the president, vice president and others who have to swear on the Bible, Koran, the cross or any other form of allegiance. The Lord in His teaching was referring to our day-to-day relationship with each other. We must let our yes be yes and no to be no. The Lord said any other thing comes from evil. Matthew 5:37. Most acts of swearing comes with some very dirty words.

During the trial of the Lord Jesus Apostle Peter who decided to get close by, was accused of being one of the disciples of Jesus. Matt 26:74 KJV “Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew”.  Apostle Peter denied his knowledge of the Lord with an oath. He cursed as he denied or defended his position. Peter was desperate at that instant because he feared for his life. Many of us may find ourselves in similar situations, yet we’ve got to know that we have ceased to live for ourselves but unto the Lord.

HOW do we act when lies are spoken about us? The Lord Jesus gave us a perfect example when He was tried before He was crucified. In Matthew 27:11, the Roman governor, asked him, are you the King of the Jews? He answered you have said so. Right after that the chief priest and scribes accused him of various things, yet he did not answer. When Pilate spoke about something which was the truth, He answered and said you say so. When the chief priest spoke about issues that were false, he did not answer. What is the Lord teaching us by His example? Always acknowledge what is truth, but you may not answer to that which is a lie. Don’t fight lies. It is a waste of time. Note that every lie comes from the devil, and a very good response is to ignore him. If you must answer, then tell him what the word of truth says. Choosing to swear would lead to something wrong. You can’t defend truth. Truth is like a lion, and will always defend itself. There is no need to curse and give an oath to prove that what you are saying is truth.

CONFESSION

I keep my yes as yes, and my no as no. I do not attempt in anyway to prove the truth with an oath. I don’t have anything to prove about myself. I live for Jesus and so defend His course alone.

KEY SCRIPTURE

Matthew 5:37 KJV” But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Matthew 5:36 KJV Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE 4

KEY SCRIPTURE:1 Chronicles 21:1 KJV” And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.”

In our key scripture, we see Satan moving David to number the Israelites against the will of God. Many actions of people are an influence from demons or evil spirits. A lot of very disturbing actions from married people has demonic sources. The sad truth is that, their partners do not see it that way and so respond to their action, by calling for divorce. Once, Jesus informed His disciples that He would be captured by the Jews and given to the Romans to be crucified. The Bible said, Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him saying, this shall never happen to you. The Lord also gave the following response to Peter, Matthew 16:23 KJV ” But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” The Lord did not rebuke Peter but addressed Satan who was speaking through him.

What is it that makes your wife so angry and even insulting? What drives your husband to speak so proudly and almost inconsiderate of your feelings.? Many of such actions are demonically influenced. As a pastor and a Counsellor, I have seen people set free from unseen spirits that seek to destroy the marital home. The major signs of demonic manipulations are

1.Anger that turns to rage.

2.Abusive language that can even turn violent.

3 Strong and unexplained dislike for your spouse

4 Strong and uncontrollable desire for another partner

5 Sex in dreams, that normally results in disappointments in, the experiences of the spouse.

6.Blatant lies that are unexplainable.

Many marriages are under demonic attack, yet the spouses attack each other, not knowing the real enemies.

HOW can one handle such conditions?

If you happen to notice some of these tendencies in your spouse, then some foreign power may be at work. Start interceding for your spouse by attacking that spirit. Call it’s name by the traits it manifests, commanding it to leave your spouse. You may not necessarily do it in his or her presence, yet pray for him or her all the same. You may add fasting if there seem to be no change. You can also discuss with your pastor, who would pray with him or her in your presence. Never tell your spouse, he or she  has a demon. That would be very irresponsible on your part.

Please don’t rush to call for a divorce. Don’t allow those negative tendencies to create a corresponding anger and hatred in you.

PRAYER

Father, I pray for all your children whose homes Satan is manipulating. Lord grant the hurting partners to be more diligent in prayer and deliver that partner under satanic attack.

DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE 3

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:32 KJV” But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”

We continue with our discussion on the topic of divorce and remarriage. In our last study we asked a few questions which point to very serious eternal consequences. We realized that one could lose his salvation and end up in hell if he or she persisted with breaking their marriage and remarried. I wish to say that, the fact that a number of people have divorced and remarried, and are living normal lives does not mean God has changed his word. THE SCRIPTURE CANNOT BE BROKEN. For example, if half the population of the world was to be involved in homosexual marriages, that cannot make it right or change what God has said about it. Lev 18:22 KJV “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”. The general acceptance of divorce as a normal way of life does not change what Jesus said that, it is unacceptable, if done outside the clause of fornication.

Let’s come to some practical issues. What does one do when he has a very stubborn or difficult wife? What about the lady who has a difficult problem causing husband? There are cases that the life of a partner in marriage may be in danger by virtue of either the man’s actions or the woman. On this ground there may be a separation according to the scripture. 1Corinth 7:11 KJV” But and if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

” Please note that the Lord added although there may be separation, there should not be a putting away, or a divorce. Dear brother or sister the present spate of divorce clearly reveals our world is out of the will of God. One may ask, can there be a divorce when there is no marital unfaithfulness. I believe there may be. (The Roman Catholic church does not acknowledge certain marriages, when one party conceals a vital truth that should have been made known).

Now let’s consider the following thought. When one has certain challenges in life, for example a problem son, does he or she not pray till there comes a solution. Why would you put away your wife or your husband at the slightest problem they may pose? The real problem is that, people have trivialized divorce so much that, they easily call for it at the slightest difficulty. Let it be settled in your mind that DIVORCE is not an option. Let Pastors preach it till, it catches up with the body of Christ. This will also mean; people have to take time to enter into marriage knowing what God has said about divorce. Dear child of God, God has assured us of His readiness to answer prayer. We need patience, faith and persistency in prayers to overcome certain challenges posed by certain partners, till they see God bring answers. (DEMONS do attack marriages a lot).

 PRAYER

Father I pray for all couples to learn to trust in you. Let the church accept the seriousness of divorce, so it would be avoided for peace to prevail among your children.

DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:32 KJV “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

We continue with our discussion on divorce and remarriage. We realized in our last discussion that although there are a thousand and one causes of divorce, the underlying causes are just two. These are selfishness and lack of reverence for the word of God.

Marriage is an institution that gives no place to selfishness. The moment one enters into marriage he is willingly declaring that every self-will has ended with him. This is the reason God’s original intent for marriage had no place for polygamy. Gen 2:24 KJV “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” It is selfishness that breeds dissatisfaction in very simple trivial matters. Anger, unforgiveness and almost every emotional outburst, are all deeply rooted in self centredness.

The next major cause of divorce is a lack of reverence for the word of God. God’s word is His manual for successful living.

2Timothy 3:16 KJV” All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works”. Divorce of many marriages proceed from unforgiveness, that   breeds bitterness and finally rage. The party who feels hurt will not heed to any voice of scripture that calls for forgiveness or showing mercy. If Christian couples will make the word of God the sole authority in all matters of faith and conduct, there will be less of these frequent marital break ups.

The Lord said that the one who divorces a woman, if not on grounds of marital unfaithfulness, causes her to commit adultery. This is the instance if she remarries. The one who marries her also commits adultery according to Jesus Christ. My question is, what would happen to those who have divorced their wives on grounds which has nothing to do with marital unfaithfulness? I do not judge anyone but please be very sincere with yourself. What would happen to you, after you leave this life to meet Christ when you blatantly broke His word when on earth? Will God forgive you because you asked Him to forgive you? NOTE that He said if anyone has a grudge against you, then go to him and reconcile.  This one(divorced) would definitely hold a grudge against you.  Married man or woman do not break the scripture. Dear brother or sister always tell yourself that DIVORCE IS NOT AN OPTION. Work from that understanding and find a way out of that problem.

PRAYER

Oh! heavenly Father, stir up selflessness in the hearts of all your children, and a great reverence for your word. Let there be peace in all homes.

DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:32 KJV “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”

The Lord Jesus along His teaching now talks about divorce and remarriage. Marriage from scriptural point of view and natural occurrences, is between a man and a woman who have agreed to live together after observing various traditional marriage rights of both families. As Christians these couples receive the blessing from the people of faith. Two men or two women cannot marry. Natural occurrences does not support that, neither does the Bible permit that too. (Romans 1:26,27)

Marriage is very important because it is the basic unit of our communities, and societies. A deteriorated society is as a result of a poor non-functional families. One major trouble faced by most families is divorce. It happens to all persons, including Christians, non-Christians, Pastors, church members and almost every body. What did the Lord Jesus say about divorce?

The Lord said in   Matthew 5:32 KJV “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. In this very verse the Lord said, any one who divorces his wife on any grounds except fornication causes her to commit adultery. Why did the Lord say so? Fornication on the part of one of the couples breaks the marriage union.

The Lord’s reason for making this statement was in a way, expressing His dislike for divorce.

Malachi 2:16 “KJV For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away(divorce): for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.” The Lord says He hates putting away. Divorce on many occasions is a result of lots of treachery and mistreatment, done to one of the couples, or each one antagonizing the other. The Lords says that divorce or putting away is something He hates. These days it has become very normal to see marriages dissolved. Some of them having the flimsiest of excuses. Someone said he does not like the way the wife looks like in the morning, and so divorced her. One divorced his wife because, he says she lacks table manners. A man divorced the wife, because another woman looks more beautiful than his wife. These reasons are indeed petty, yet it happens.

These days, there are a whole lot of reasons why marriages are dissolved, of which they have nothing to do with fornication on any of the couple’s part. Some of them includes

1.Financial stress, plays a very big role in causing divorces of marriages.

2 Differences of mannerism and upbringing can create incompatibility among some persons, leading to divorce.

3.Lack of children in the marriage union can also break some homes.

4.Differences in believes, whether religious or secular, can cause a divorce

5.When one person feels his or her commitment to the marriage does not have a corresponding commitment from the spouse. This can trigger a divorce.

6. Unforgiveness does lead to divorce.

7.Husband complains that the wife does not respect him, and wife also claims husband does not love her. This is a major cause of divorce. There are many more causes of divorce which I have no space to talk about now.

Looking at most of the causes, one sees two main things running through most of them

  1.  SELFISHNESS
  2. A LACK OF REVERENCE FOR THE WORD OF GOD

I will pull the breaks for now, and continue at our next discussion.

PRAYER

Lord I pray for all hurting families and even those that have already dissolved. May your word prevail over these marriages and bring restoration of these homes one more time in Jesus name.

NO LOSS ON EARTH IS COMPARABLE TO THE LOSS IN HELL

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:29 KJV” And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

We stay with the multitudes on the mount as the Lord teaches. Among the many things he taught, was what He said concerning the following” And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell”. He says if your eye causes you to sin, then you must do away with it. Note that the Lord calls sin an offence against yourself. He says be ready to lose your eye if it causes you to sin. Why should you pluck out your eye when it makes you sin.? Because sin would lead you into hell fire. Many have been teaching that hell is just the grave. The grave has no pain, to give us, even if your dead body was to be burnt. No dead body can feel any pain. The Lord was referring to the soul of a man that would be cast into hell.

Dear child of God, God is a Spirit, and He lives in the realm of the Spirit. Hell is a spiritual state, where the spirit of man which is not physical goes. Mar 9:45 KJV” And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:” THE Lord says the fires of hell does not go out and your spirit and soul keep burning in hell. Dear brother can you compare any loss you make physically in this physical world, to the pain of suffering forever in hell? Testimonies of people who have visited hell and back is indeed very scary, and something no one must go there by intent or by mistake.

HOW do people get to hell?

1When you reject Jesus as Lord of your life. (John 3:3, Hebrews 2:2)

2. If a Christian live in disobedience to the word of God, he or she would end up in hell.

3. If you live after the dictates of the flesh (Rom 8:13)

4. Christians who die at a time when they would not forgive those who have offended them. Matthew 5:23&24

What must you do, to have a place in heaven?

1. Make Jesus Lord of your life, if you have not surrendered your life to Him.

2. Always forgive anyone who hurts you.

3. Live diligently according to the word of God

4. Stop any known sinful way

5. Live in expectation of the coming of Christ.

Amen

CONFESSION

Jesus is Lord of my life; I live in anticipation of the coming of Christ. I do not allow sin of any form to have a hold of me. My life is a living praise unto God.

HONOUR GOD, BY DEALING FAIRLY WITH ALL MEN

KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:23 KJV Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Our Lord kept instructing His audience at the mount. ‘Just sit among the audience this time and allow the Holy Spirit throw more light on some of the things He taught’. The Lord made a very important thought which each of us must fully realize and align our lives according to it. He said, if you happen to bring your offering to Him, and there you remember your brother has something against you, leave the offering there, go to your brother and settle the issue before you come to him again and offer that offering. God values our right treatment of all persons to any so-called worship we want to give him. The Holy Spirit makes this point so clearly in the following verse 1John 4:20 KJV” If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

You can’t claim you love God while you break the lives of others. Men are the earthly highest symbols of the invisible God and when you neglect, hurt and are mischievous towards them, you have, hurt, neglected and been mischievous to God. Matthew 25:40 KJV” And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” This is the reason the Lord says, when you sense your brother is hurt with your actions, then God is also hurt with your actions, and he will not accept that worship.

What is happening in homes that husbands mistreat wives and wives retaliate, whiles each party does not care to make amends in anyway? These people are always in church praying and worshipping. According to our study does God accept any of their worship? I think if God would not accept such worship, do you believe God will ultimately accept such people into heaven? There are some men who break the hearts of ladies with ease and do not have the slightest thought to apologize.  Some head Pastors of certain churches are feeling hurt about the way some sons of their ministry left them by taking portions of the congregation to start new churches, and do not care to go and make amends. I want to say blatantly here, that, such a one is never in favour with God and is rather under a curse. Never think God is interested in your praying and preaching, when you are mistreating others. You don’t rob or steal from any man and give it to God. It is unacceptable in God’s sight.

CONFESSION

I see all men as very precious to God. I make sure I treat all men fairly and even see them as representatives of God. If I mistreat them, I have mistreated God, so I do everything possible to handle all men fairly.
