KEY SCRIPTURE: James 4:6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble”.

Romans 8:31 reads “if God be for us who can be against is”. Well, no one can overcome us, but what happens when God is against you?

Our key scripture says God opposes the proud. This is the worst of experience that a man could face. Who is a proud man? Pride is a misplaced identify. It is when you don’t accept yourself for who God says you are. Pride is simply not to be submissive to the word of God.

Pride is not about mannerism. A man may be very out spoken and, may not look calm in his disposition, yet may be very humble. The basic determinant whether one is proud or humble is his or her attitude or response to the word of God. How do you treat what God says? Do you seek the praise of men and behind the scene blatantly disobey the word of God?

Please read the whole of 1st Samuel 15. The Lord instructed Samuel to tell Saul to go destroy everyone and everything in the Land of Amalek. King Saul went, destroyed the people, left the King called Agag and also the best of the sheep and of the oxen and the fatlings, and the lamb and everything that looked good untouched.

When the prophet Samuel confronted King Saul, He said in verse 15: They have brought them from Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God and the rest we have utterly destroyed “. Please read his statement well. Concerning the sheep and the oxen that were spared, it was “the people” but those that were destroyed it was “we”. King Saul never accepted his offence or error. He always pushed the blame to others. He was a rebel at heart. In verse 23 Samuel described how God sees the proud: “For rebellion is as the sin of witch craft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou has rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected thee from being king”.

It is a terrible thing to reject the word of God. I have made up my mind to esteem God’s word above all other things. God is on my side because I always stand for Him.

1 Samuel 2:30  “Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me forever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed”.

2 Chronicles 16:9 ”  For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars”.
