KEY SCRIPTURE: Matthew 8:26 KJV” And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
(Please read Matthew 8:23-27)
The Lord Jesus joined His disciples in a ship to go to the other side of the sea. The Lord, who might have been ‘exhausted’ with so much work fell into a deep sleep. He was asleep yet He was always Lord. The storm began to rage against them. Mat 8:24 KJV” And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep”. His disciples were caught up with fear. What made them to be so much afraid? They were definitely overwhelmed by the dimension of the raging storms. They had also lost the knowledge of who Jesus was. How could they be moving with the master and think that they could perish? This is the very condition of countless number of Christians. They believe Jesus is in their lives but cannot relate His presence in their lives with the challenges that come up against them.
When the disciples got to Jesus, they did not just ask Him to save them, they rather complained that He did not care about their safety. Many of us behave in a similar way when crisis come our way. What they did was a prayer of accusation. A prayer of accusation is when we accuse God for not doing one thing or another for us. The scriptures teach that we must do all things without murmuring or complaining. (Phil 2:14) Instead of making a request from the master they were accusing Him of not caring for their safety.
Our Lord Jesus throughout His travels with his disciples have been showing to them how to speak to various objects to respond. He spoke to blind eyes, crippled legs, trees to wither and die and many more. In Mark 11:23, He explained that they could speak to a mountain in faith and it would obey. When the Lord rose from his sleep, He spoke to the storms to be still and it was still. If we are to make such commands in His name, the Lord says, He would act on those words. Joh 14:14 KJV” If ye shall ask (demand) any thing in my name, I will do it.”
In the story, the Lord asked, why are they so fearful? He answered that, it was due to their little faith. Please note that people express little faith when they give no regard to the word of God they know, or they do not have the word in their hearts at all. I believe these disciples did not give any regard to the word of God they knew. You can have strong faith, if you would believe the word of God you have heard, and act on it. This is the way to build strong faith.
CONFESSION
Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are always with me, and never leave me under any condition. I speak in faith to contrary situations in your name, and they obey me because you always act on those words so the father would be glorified.
