BELIEVE ON JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:36 KJV” But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not”.

In John 6:36, the Lord Jesus made an open truth about the multitudes who had been following Him all these while. He said, you have seen me yet you do not believe in me. They had seen him perform miracles of multiplying loaves of bread and fishes. They had seen him heal countless number of incurable conditions. Jesus had taught and made statements that no ordinary man could make. They saw how He returned in the boat of the disciples although he did not leave with them. This meant He walked to them on the water. In the midst of all these countless signs and miracles they would not believe in Him. John 1:11, says, He came unto His own, but His own people did not receive Him, yet as many that receive Him, even to them that believe on His name, He gave them power to become the sons of God.” Would you receive and believe in Him?

The following is what God’s word says about some people who know all these works of the Lord, yet have decided to be adamant. Rom 1:21 KJV” Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened”. Let not this be said of you. The Lord has revealed Himself in creation, and a lot of other ways. Just consider the survival of Christianity and the Word of God, during the early centuries after the Lord’s death. During that period, the church was terribly persecuted. They were burnt at stake, thrown to lions, crucified on the cross and some were beheaded. In all these terrible persecutions, they did not forsake the Lord. Why did they accept to die such horrible deaths? Their message was that, they had encountered the resurrected Jesus and so they were prepared to die for what they knew was the truth.

Dear one these actions are very strong grounds about the reality of our Saviour. Believe on Him today.

The above are events most of us know about. They all point to a non-contestable truth that; Jesus died and was resurrected. Dear one I believe you are privy to these historical facts. Jesus is not just a person of history but is very much closer to you right now as you read or listen to this message. If you would sincerely call on the Lord right now, He will surely answer and show you His love and mercy. Rev 3:20 KJV” Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” He  is asking for your permission to let Him in.” BELIEVE ON JESUS TODAY.

JESUS, THE TRUE BREAD

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:32 KJV” Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.”

After the people had made reference to Moses giving manna to the people, the Lord, decided to explain to them that which is the real bread that God gives. Bread stands for that which nourishes and satisfies. God gave the manna through Moses. Exodus 16:15 KJV And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat. The manna came from God through Moses yet it does not satisfy the hunger of the soul. The manna was a wonder or ration meal that met their physical needs in the wilderness. It was a type of the real bread that God our Father gives to all humanity to satisfy them in truth.

Man is not only this body that we see. Man is the Spirit and dwells in the body. For the body without the spirit is dead. James 2:26. It is the Spirit in the body that makes the individual alive yet the Spirit cannot dwell in a weak body. The body must be kept well whiles the Spirit is well strengthened. The life of Jesus in a man works in both aspects of man.1Ti 4:8 KJV For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. Every natural resource has a limited benefit, yet the supernatural have both natural and spiritual impact.

Jesus said, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The word has natural and supernatural impact. Jesus is the word of God. We have to place our lives on the word. God’s word is applicable to every aspect of our lives. It has effect The word makes a man perfect, and thoroughly furnished unto every good work. 2 Tim 3:17. The word furnish means it will add up to your life and perfect everything that is lacking about you. This is what the bread of life will bring to you. Make sure you daily feed yourself with this word. It is meat indeed.

HEAR GOD

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:31 KJV” Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”

We continue with our discussion on Jesus’ discourse with the multitude who followed up on him because of what Jesus did by multiplying the loaves of bread and the two fishes. They erred by asking the Lord to perform a sign. Now they are trying to tell the Lord what they expect by relating it to the time of Moses. The Lord had stated a moment ago that they should not labour for the meat that will perish, and that the work of God is to believe in Him that the father sent. These people immediately turned away from Jesus words to talk about the food that the people in Moses’ day ate. What was happening to them? Their mental condition prevented them from focusing on what the master said. They were still engrossed with their desire for food and so, they easily missed what the Lord was saying.

The are many people today who sit through preaching moments but hear nothing. These are like Jesus’ parable of the Sower, whose seed fell by the way side. He explained that, because those people did not understand what they heard, they could not retain it and so they quickly lost it. Mark 4:15 KJV” And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. The cause of this is inattentiveness to the word. It is rather surprising that some people would be browsing their mobile phones as the preaching of God, ‘word goes on. There those who occupy their minds with all kinds of issues and worries and as a result fail to hear or understand the word of God.

What must one do to prevent himself or herself from missing God’s mind for him or her?

1.Do not come to the presence of God with a made-up mind.

2. Be ready to listen. Many people do not listen to the word, which may be preached to them. On many occasions they hold to their views and so they do not hear what the preacher may be saying.

3. Do not show God how He must bless you, like Naaman did in 2 kings 5. These people were referring Jesus to the times of Moses and the manna they ate. Such an attitude can cause one to easily miss God. Whenever you come to God, be ready to submit to his terms and trust Him to honour His word in your life.

4.Attentiveness to what is said is the primary bases for understanding the word. Do not allow obstructions to the word of God.

5. You do no good to yourself to argue with the word each time it is preached. Be always submitted to the word knowing that God word is far superior to what we may think. James 4:7

6. Each time you hear God’s word, just receive and believe it. 1Co 1:21 KJV” For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”

Human reason misses God’s ways

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:30 KJV” They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

The Jewish multitudes continued their discourse with the Lord. This time, they fell into the common error of most men. They asked what sign would you perform for us to see, so that we may believe.

Men are prone to live on the realm of their senses and reason.

This is the major reason; most men miss God. God is a Spirit and man can relate with Him from the Spirit. Believing the word is a response of the human spirit to God’s word. They wanted to relate with God purely from the natural state. They wanted to see a sign so they would believe. This is error. Faith or believe in God and His word, is a confidence assurance in something hoped for. Anything we hope for is not something presently with us. Faith or believe in the context of God says, that thing which I anticipate to have in the future is present with me now. In what form is it present with me?

It is present in the form of that assurance or confidence in the heart concerning what God has said.

This is what the bible and God calls faith (Heb 11:1). This is the kind of faith that pleases God and He always responds to honour that confidence placed in Him.

The Lord Jesus consistently expressed great respect for all those who expressed the God kind of faith. Matt 15:28 KJV “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” This woman was able to obtain the healing for her daughter, although by divine timing, it was not yet time for the Gentiles to obtain the ministry of the Lord.

True faith breaks every human and divine protocols.

He said, happy are those who have not seen, yet do believe.

Faith in God is a mystery, for everything that a man can believe God for can materialise. Mark 9:23

KJV “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Why is it difficult for most men to exercise this confidence in God? As we have seen above, the God kind of faith is not in the realm of reason, feeling or the senses in general. Man must break the influence of the senses over his mind. The means to doing this, is by the word of God. One must give attention to hear, and hear the word of God.

Faith always comes by hearing the word of God. Rom10:17.

The proofs of the acts of faith in men who have walked that path becomes a light of life that one can follow through to get to where he wishes to reach.

Heb 13:7 KJV” Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their life.” According to the bible, they are pace setters, in this path for Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Please take the assurance the scripture gives. Since the Lord Jesus never failed them, He would never fail you.

GOD’S WORK IS TO BELIEVE IN JESUS 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:29 KJV’ Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

In our previous study we learnt about the great and unique life of our Lord Jesus that places an inevitable need to believe in Him.

Believing the Lord Jesus unites us to Him, such that we naturally function with His ability.

In today’s discussion we would look at another aspect of Jesus’ life that also places a great demand on us to believe in Him. This aspect of His life is the period of His passion, till He resurrected from the dead to ascend into heaven. The significance of this era of His life was to make us qualified or receive the ability to lead the kind of life He demonstrated in the time before His passion. Colossians 1:12 KJV Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet (qualified) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:”

The Lord Jesus lived above the power of disease and He has made the provision for us to do so. During His passion, His body was beaten and torn to a point His face was almost formless. Isaiah 53:5 KJV” But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” He has made a divine provision for our healing, so believe in Him for your divine health. The Lord Jesus became sin on the cross and carried away our sins. We were buried with Him through supernatural immersion into Him. We were raised without any sin. Romans 6:4 KJV” Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life”.

To believe in Jesus, also means, giving the life and Spirit of Christ, that free access to express Himself through us.

The   Lord suffered and died on the cross, was buried, and rose up to ultimately ascend into heaven, to be enthroned. The bible said He was resurrected for our justification. His resurrection meant our righteousness. We received a completely new nature, also known as a new creation (2 Corinth 5:17). The Lord was ultimately enthroned on the right hand of the Father, of which we are seated with Him in the heavenly places, far above all principalities and power. Eph 2:6 KJV” And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”:  Believing in Jesus means believing in all that He has achieved for us, and that sets the stage for a life of purpose and victory.

Believing Him, sets us up to effectively do whatever He instructs us to do. The Lord Jesus, said the following to all, John 14:1 KJV “.  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

GOD’S WORK IS TO BELIEVE JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:29 KJV “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

We continue with our discussion on the multitude which came looking for Jesus, because of the food He miraculously produced for them.

The Lord Jesus corrected the multitude who were seeking for Him because of the food he gave them. They then asked him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God? These people asked the right questions. Their question shows they understood what the Lord wanted them to learn. Secondly, they accepted they were in error.

WISDOM IS ALWAYS HIDDEN IN HUMBLE ATTITUDE.

Conversely pride is the bedrock of foolishness. The Lord Jesus explained to them that to believe in Him who was sent by God is actually the work of God. Jesus’ answer was rather profound. He did not talk about doing A or B but said to believe in Him is the work of God.

Now let’s take a few lessons about Jesus. The bible says in Jesus are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge Colossians 2:3. Believing in Him means contacting this store house of wisdom and knowledge. It also means taking every word from His lips as life. In Phil 3:4-9 apostle Paul talked about his great achievement in life and the fact that he stands out among his people. I believe Paul did not marry as a Pharisee, in order to be diligently committed to that cause. He said he was blameless, when it came to the righteousness of the law. Inspite of all these achievements, he said for the excellency of knowing and serving Jesus, he counted all those achievement as dung. No human achievement of any level could be compared to knowing and believing in Jesus.

The Lord Jesus came into this life exercising the dominion which Adam lost. No disease could attach itself to him. No beast, serpent, insect or what have you could attack or afflict him in any way. He had power over the elements of creation. He came to demonstrate to humanity the kind of life God would want man to live. Believing in Him gives us access to walk in that dominion. Man was created as a dwelling place of God and also for God to express Himself on the earth. This was exactly what Jesus came to bring men into. Jesus became the first born of all the children of God, who were begotten by the Spirit of God. They were to be conformed to the image of our Lord Jesus. Rom 8:29. He became our senior brother. We have to believe that we are one with Him. He, the Lord Jesus healed all manner of diseases and exercised authority over nature. He said if we would believe in Him, we would likewise torment the devils. Joh 14:12 KJV “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

GO FOR ETERNAL VERITIES

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:27 KJV “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.”

Someone once asked, is life all about being born, growing up, and dying afterwards? The Lord Jesus told the people who were searching for Him; because they were fed by Him, and were desiring that He would perform that miracle again. Many people are tirelessly following after earthly carnal things, which have no eternal significance. The Lord counselled them to labour for the food which have an eternal value.

Food in this context stand for anything that is of a great importance or satisfaction to you.

Our key scripture advices us not to labour for the food that will perish after some time, but labour for the food that will abide unto eternity. The Lord counsels us not to lay our treasures on this earth, where moth, rust and thieves can break in and steal Matt 6:19. He admonishes us to rather lay up our treasures in heaven., where no moth, rust nor thieves, could break in and steal.

What are some of the foods or things of great importance that will abide forever?

1.The food of winning the lost unto Christ.

John 4:34 KJV “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” The Lord Jesus said winning souls unto the Father is His food. He added, He must complete this work absolutely. This work has a great eternal value. Daniel 12:3

2. Labouring in the word of God for yourself and also to bless others through teaching is another food unto eternal life.1Ti 5:17 KJV “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”

3. We must labour to believe God’s word, so we may enter into our rest as children of God. This is also another spiritual food to satisfy our souls. Heb 4:11 KJV” Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”.

4. There is the eternal blessing of giving into or for the work of God. Every sacrificial seed we give towards the work of God is an eternal food of true satisfaction for all time. The Lord said, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Luke 21:3 KJV “And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:”

5. It is a great call of eternal significance to labour in prayer and to intercede for the lost.1 Timothy 2:1-4. Col 4:12 KJV” Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God”. Dear brother or sister would you enroll in the school of intercession to seek the salvation of souls on your knees.

6. Lastly but not the least, any act of obedience to the word of God or divine counsel is a form of eternal food that brings to us eternal satisfaction.

We were created to bring pleasure to our Father God, and doing it brings us eternal blessings and rewards. May you let the following scripture be your motivation.

Luke 19:17 KJV “And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities”.

THOUGHT: EVERY ACT OF OBEDIENCE OR HONOUR WE BRING TO GOD IS AN ETERNAL MEAT THAT WILL NEVER PERISH

NO CARNAL PURSUIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:26 KJV “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.”

On reading through John 6:24 – 25 we realise the Israelites seeking for Jesus. They took a ship to Capernaum, where He used to live, but did not find Him there. They then went to the other side of the lake, where they found Him. The moment the Lord saw them, He knew the motive for which they tirelessly looked for Him. The Lord Jesus said the following to them, Joh 6:26 KJV ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled”. The Lord said in effect that, these people are not in any way concerned about spiritual matters, but are only concerned about carnal matters, that which would satisfy their flesh.

The above state of affairs is a rather   sad condition prevailing in most churches.

There is a great percentage of church goers who do so, primarily to satisfy some carnal longings.

These include, seeking a life partner, a business breakthrough, visa to travel. A young girl who has found a boyfriend in the church may say,” if I do not go to the church, some girl will get my boyfriend from me”. Her presence in church is all about that boy. You may come to the church initially with such longings, yet as you grow in the faith, your pursuit should be to glorify God in all you do. Many people do not understand what the church is about and her mission on the earth. The church is the body of our Lord Jesus.

The church exists to continue with the work our Lord started; it is the ministry of reconciliation.

This involves saving lives, healing the sick and preaching the good news to them. Every Christian is an automatic soul winner, The Lord Jesus kept doing the business of the Father.

Dear one, why do you go to church? What is your motivation for doing all you do in the house of God? Do you truly love the Lord? Lastly but not the least, do you know the Lord? Those who truly know the Lord will esteem His way above all things. They would seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness. Matt 6:33. Dear one may what the prophet Jeremiah spoke about in Jeremiah 6:13 not happen to us.

” For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.”

The Spirit of the Lord suggests that we ask of the

old paths, the good old ways and walk in them for that is what would bring rest to our souls (Jer 6:16). It is time to repent from every carnal pursuit and seek the Lord in truth. Job 36:11 declares

” If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.”

It is always the will of God that the people of God live honourably and in true prosperity, yet they must place the interest of God first. Love the Lord with all your heart. John 4:34 KJV ” Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”

HIS RESURRECTION OUR JUSTIFICATION

KEY SCRIPTURE: Romans 4:25 KJV” Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus is a historical event that has positively affected the course of history so much. It was the validity of the resurrection that caused the apostles to boldly preach the gospel to the point that, almost all of them were killed because they claimed Jesus died, resurrected and showed himself alive to them, by many infallible proofs. Acts 1:2-3.

Our key scripture reveals an amazing truth about a very glorious effect of the resurrection to us. It says, He was resurrected for our justification. To be justified is to be made righteous. According to Romans 6:3-5 anyone who comes into Christ is immersed (baptised) into Christ. He is baptised into Jesus’ death and likewise resurrects with Jesus.

The Lord Jesus resurrected with a perfect, sinless righteous nature.

Since we likewise resurrected with Him, we also have that same sinless, righteous nature. This is the reason the bible says in Rom 4:25, that He was raised for our justification. We have a righteous nature like Jesus.

Colossians 1:22 reads ” In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:” This is how you are in God’s sight. It says you are Holy; you are unblameable and unreproveable. If you stand in the sight of God with such an impeccable nature, why do you carry that consciousness of sin?

The weakness of many Christians is because they believe they have a sinful nature.

This is a very big error committed by many Christians, and even some ministers of the gospel. Note: You are what you believe. Refuse to accept that you are a sinner or you have a sinful nature.

Let’s consider another scripture in that light. 1st Corinthians 6:11 KJV

” And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

In 1st Corinthians 6:10, the scripture referred to some weaknesses or sinful lifestyle, but commented that such were their lifestyle before Christ,  yet now they have been washed, sanctified and justified. Dear child of God, you resurrected with Jesus, with a righteous nature. Believe it,  confess it to yourself till it becomes, your present hour consciousness. According to God’s word you are Holy, and you are justified. Let sin in any form cease with you right now.

CONFESSION

I resurrected with Jesus, having a righteous nature just like Him. I am Holy and justified before the Father. I am unblameable and unreproveable. I do not have a sin consciousness, but rather the very nature of righteousness.

THOUGHT:I AM RESURRECTED WITH JESUS, THEREFORE , I HAVE A RIGHTEOUS NATURE LIKE HIM.

TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 6:22 KJV “The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;”

The Lord Jesus and His disciples got to the shores of the sea to the amazement of all the men that stood by at the shore. They saw the disciples go without the Lord. Now they return and Jesus is sitting in that very boat. I believe this made them to wonder and ask lots of questions. All these come to the conclusion that our Lord Jesus is highly unpredictable and men must put their trust in Him. No one can be very certain about the Lord responding normally like any other man. When He heard about Lazarus condition, he waited for an extra four days, till he died. It was easier naturally to heal a dying man, than to wait for him to die for four days, before waking him up, is really an incredible matter. The bible says everyone born of the Spirit works in the same unpredictable way Joh 3:8 KJV “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” This description refers to all children of GOD.

The scripture reveals that it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the child of God who enables the child of God to do things that beat the imagination of ordinary mortals. One needs to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to bring forth such amazing feats. What could be the secret of the Lord Jesus that helped Him to achieve all these miracles. The first thing to consider was His prayer life. On some occasions He would spend the whole night in prayer unto the Father (Luke 6:12). The Lord did nothing without the prompting of the Holy Spirit. He consistently depended on the Holy Spirit. The child of God supposed to do same if he or she would follow the path of Jesus. Once the disciples of Jesus asked Him in John 6:28 KJV “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” The Lord answered that this is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.

The Father has said the following about His Son Jesus. Hebrews 1:2 KJV “(God)Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; What is the word of the Lord Jesus to men? Mat 28:19 KJV “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: ” To believe the Son is to do what He instructs us to do. The Lord Jesus gave lots of instructions. Our call is to place our trust in the Lord Jesus which means doing what He has instructed us.

According to Him, this is the work of God, that is to believe in Him.
