SINCERITY

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:47 KJV Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

When Nathaniel, whose name means gift of God, got to the master, the Lord remarked that, he was a genuine Israelite and there was no guile or deceit in him. Nathaniel had earlier made a remark about Nazareth, which shows that he was very much abreast with the traditions of the Jews. In addition to this the Lord said He was a very sincere man who carries no pretence.

This does not mean there was no fault in Him, yet it meant he was a man who did his best to do right always. As a Jew he made sure He lived according to the law.

The Lord is the truth personified. He fears none and never seeks the praise of anyone. Whatever he said about Nathaniel was the perfect truth. He knows all men. Hebrews 4:13 KJV “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” Can the Lord make such comments about you? You may be an angel before your friends. In church you are hailed as the best Christian. What do you do when no one is watching? The word says on the day of judgement the secrets of men, would be laid bare.

If you are a child of God, then there should be no question about your integrity. Unfortunately, there are many Christians who have certain hidden deceptive lives. It does not matter whether you are a pastor or a church member, your life must be above board. Why are some Christians dubious? These ones do not know who they really are. Please let’s separate head knowledge from men and women of conviction. A Christian who knows so much of what the word says, but is not convicted about the word has not decided to submitted to the authority of the word. This individual is CARNAL.

Carnality takes him or her out of the Spirit, where death begins to work in him (Rom 8:6).

He knows the word, yet there is no life to propel the word into deeds. Death which means the absence of the influence of the Spirit is what dominates him. This is a very sad state to find yourself. You can be free. (To be continued)

PRAYER

1.Ask the Lord to forgive you of insubordination to His will

2. Pray by declaring sin shall not have dominion over you.

PREJUDICED ABOUT CHRIST

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:46 KJV “And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see”.

Philip enthusiastically talked about Jesus to Nathaniel. The moment he heard that, Jesus was from Nazareth, he remarked, can any good thing come out of Nazareth. Nazareth was a very wicked place and people from there were seriously stigmatised. Nathaniel was therefore prejudiced about the Lord. In our modern experiences many are prejudiced about Christ and the gospel. It is a popular thinking that Christianity is a white man’s religion, and so what good can it offer. This is error given birth to prejudice. It is rather unfortunate that most people who say such things are intellectually elite. Studying history in our secondary levels teach us that Christianity originated from the middle east and spread to Europe. Some even suggest the bible was written by Europeans. How could these people had known the vivid locations in Israel and the neighbouring states or towns? Please note archaeology keep answering questions about the validity of the bible. Many of such opposers of the scriptures dwell on such errors and so are prejudiced about the truth of our Lord Jesus.

When Nathaniel expressed his prejudice, Philip just said come and see. He did not argue with him. Many times, we spend too much time trying to convince people about Jesus. The sweetness of the pudding is in the eating. Soap is useless until you wash yourself with it. Just challenge them to try Jesus, if he would not fill them with peace of mind and heart. He would also take away their bad temper and fill them with love and respect for others. They should taste Him and see, if he would not heel their sick bodies. As Philip did, may we also do same and we will see the number of souls who would turn to Jesus.

A Muslim man who was been tormented by the spirits he had contacted through sorcery, in seeking for solution, entered an Assemblies of God church, called Holy Hill. The pastor (Dr Kwadwo Bempah) said in the course of his message that if you are in doubt about the transforming power of Christ, just give your life to him, and see if within three months things don’t get better. This man said, he likes challenging statements of this kind. He accepted Christ expecting a change within three months. To cut a long story short getting to three months he heard a message from this same man of God as he was casting away devils. The man instantly vomited all the cowries and other charms he had swallowed. He got his phone to take a shot of it and the charms turned into a snake and sped off. (You may call at the church located at Kwame Nkrumah circle-Accra, Ghana, close to the GCB bank or You may call lady Pastor Selma 0244380458 to verify) The man is now serving the Lord happily in that same church.

My point is, in most cases do not argue with the one who is prejudiced about Jesus, just ask him or her to give Jesus a try.

TELL A FRIEND ABOUT JESUS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:45 KJV” Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Good things are always worth sharing.

The gospel is the answer to the many questions of mankind.

It answers the moral decadence of men. The sickness question is easily solved when men believe the gospel. Satanic and demonic torment of the human life and soul, are easily answered, if men would believe the gospel. Romans 1:16 says the following about apostle Paul. He said” I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and to the Greek “This is the reason you’ve got to tell it to everyone.

After Philip met Jesus, he started thinking about his friend Nathaniel. I believe he said, this is the greatest thing we have all been waiting for, and Nathaniel needs to hear about it. The bible said he went and found him. I do not know how difficult or easy it was in locating him, yet He ultimately found him. He quickly broke the news to him. I believe the excitement with which he presented the message was enough to move Nathaniel to follow Him.

Dear child of God what are you doing about the gospel you have believed? How many of your friends have you talked to about the great power of the gospel.

A friend of mine visited me recently. He looked very skinny and sickly. I asked him, what is the problem? He said the doctors say, I have stomach cancer. Instantly there was a Holy anger in me. I said to him don’t worry Jesus would heal you. I sent one of my nieces, to buy me a bottle of communion wine. I explained to him the power of God in the communion. (Sadly, most Christians have made religion out of the communion, and so have lost the power in it)

I blessed it and gave it to him. This friend could not sleep, nor eat normally. I told him from that moment strength would come to him and he would sleep normally. Beloved, to the glory of God, from that day he has been normal. He slept that night as a baby. He now believes in the Lord and a very happy Christian. I did not keep the truth from him. Dear Christians we have the answer to the questions of men, don’t be shy about it.

JESUS CALLS YOU

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:43 KJV “The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.”

The Lord Jesus met Philip and without introducing Himself to him, or explaining anything to him, he asked him to follow Him. This act speaks volumes to everyone of us. Jesus is the Lord, He owns us, and does not need to negotiate with anyone He wants to use in His vineyard. Psalms 95:7 KJV “For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,” The next verse says harden not your heart when you hear His voice.

It is the worse error for anyone to refuse His call.

We did not make ourselves, He made us for His pleasure.

We are only truly satisfied when we do that which pleases Him.

Today Jesus is calling you. Whenever God calls on a man to do something, it is to elevate and bring him honour. Abraham was in an idolatrous home, that used to sacrifice their children in fire for their idols. The Lord in love came to him and said.”……unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:” Gen 12:1. Now why did He ask Abraham to leave? He added, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Abraham was obedient, and so God fulfilled his promise to the letter. God remains the best employer.

He has the best plans for anyone He calls.

The sad truth is that many have refused His call because, just as the devil deceived Eve about God’s plans for them, they have been deceived about God.2nd Corinth 4:4 says the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, so the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine on them.

They are woefully engrossed in darkness without knowing. No matter the social status of such people, they are very miserable deep down in their hearts. Their inner misery leads them to find satisfaction in all kinds of pleasure that never takes away that inner vacuum.

Dear one, having all the girls, the drinks or the parties have always left you feeling empty.

Why not humble yourself and respond positively to the Lord’s call today?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I am sorry for refusing your call. Have mercy on me. I declare that, you are the only Lord of my life and saviour of my soul. Take over the reign of my life now. Thank you for saving me. Amen.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:42 KJV” And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.”

Our topic for today is a question. It asks, what’s in a name? Do names have impact on people? A child was named after me. This boy has never stayed with me or known much about me. The child  would pray for the mother or anyone who is not feeling well. When he started writing at school, he would write the number eight by joining two zeros just as I do. His class teacher tried as hard as he could to let this boy change the way he wrote his number eight but to no avail. Although he has not lived with me before he has picked a lot of traits from me. How does this happen ?It is in the power of names. In the Old Testament the word name, can mean reputation, appellation or character. A name can determine the character of an individual.

When the Lord saw Simon, Andrew’s brother, he said to him you are Simon, which means to hear or listen, but you would be called Cephas, which is interpreted as a stone. The name Peter is Petros in Greek, and it means a stone. Cephas is the same as Peter. Why did the Lord change his name? There is no scriptural reason given for that, yet we could deduce that, by virtue of the role he was to play as the head of his disciples, He needed to be as tough as a stone. Please note that the Hebrew meaning of names also means character.

In Genesis 32:25-28, Jacob met an angel who wrestled with him throughout the night. Jacob asked the angel to bless him, but he asked of his name. Hearing his name, he said you shall no more be called Jacob but Israel. Jacob means a supplanter or, a heel holder’. That name could not be blessed. He had to give him a new name, Israel for as a Prince he had prevailed with God and men.

Please note, when the angel gave that name to him, he did not pronounce any word of blessing.

The name carried the blessing.

What is your name? What is the meaning of your name? Does the meaning of your name reveal itself in your life experience as an individual? IF your name has a very negative meaning that tells in your life experience, then please change it.

From Jacob’s experience a name could carry a curse or a blessing.

In Africa we name our children after certain individuals. Please be very sure that, that person has a type of character that you would like to reflect in your son or daughter if it so happens. Please this is not superstition

THOUGHT:  THE SECRET OF THE POWER OF NAMES IS THAT, THE TONGUE OF PEOPLE THAT CALLS THE NAME, HAS POWER TO CREATE WHAT IT SAYS

THE SPIRIT OF ANDREW

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:41 KJV” He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.”

When I was growing up as a young Christian, we had a special class in our local fellowship called the school of Andrew. It was a class meant for learning about personal evangelism. The attitude of Andrew must be cultivated by every child of God. Andrew was not a selfish brother. The moment he encountered the Messiah, he quickly told his brother Simon about Him. He actually invited him to come and see him. How many of us have shared our faith with our own siblings? How many of us are seeking the salvation of our family members? There are even some of us who make it difficult for our siblings to follow us to church. Our lifestyles are so repulsive that no one, gets attracted to what we may be doing. Rom 2:24 KJV “For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.” This should never be your experience. You should rather, let your light shine so much, that men may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.

Dear one, it is our responsibility to get our families to the saviour, if they have not come to him. God always wishes to see families saved. In Acts 16:32, the jailer realising the gates of the prison had been opened by the earthquake, wanted to kill himself, because he thought, Paul and Silas, including the rest of the prisoners, had escaped. When he found out they were there, he asked what must I do to be saved. Apostle Paul said to him, believe on the Lord Jesus, and you would be saved and your house. God always thinks about getting families saved. The moment you are saved, the next people you must consider being saved is your family. When your family is saved, you have an easier work in serving the Lord, and also helping others to know Jesus.

The man, Andrew introduced the Lord to, became the great apostle Peter, who did so much for the body of Christ, then. How would Peter have come to know Jesus, if it had not been for the selflessness of Andrew? You have no idea what the Lord would use that your brother or sister to do for Him.

I was saved at an early age, so I worked hard to get my siblings to Christ as well. It was not easy, yet with prayer and yielding to the Holy Spirit they also accepted the Lord. My Father was an idol worshipper. We kept praying and talking to him, till he also repented and accepted Jesus before passing on. God always seeks the salvation of families, so work hard with prayer to get your family saved.

PROMPT OBEDIENCE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:37 KJV “And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.”

When John said Jesus is the lamb of God, two of his followers, realising this is the truth, quickly left him to follow Jesus. They did not waste any time, they obeyed promptly. God always expects his children to be very swift in their obedience. To delay may bring unnecessary difficulties.

In the book of Jonah, the Spirit of the Lord spoke to him to go to a town called Nineveh, to warn them about an impending judgement of God because of their sinful ways. Jonah 1:2 KJV “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. “Jonah decided not to be obedient to the voice of God. He found a ship which was going to another city. Things turned out so bad that, he was thrown into the ocean and a whale swallowed him, only to be damped at the coast of Nineveh. He eventually went to deliver the message. What was the essence of going through all that trouble? There are many children of who are facing all kinds of rough and difficult times because they would not obey the Lord’s instructions.

Some people ended up doing what God asked them, but with certain physical deformities. Is it the Lord who punished them this way? When a man acts against the will of God, he vacates God’s perfect will, where God controls every event for his good, and rather enters God’s permissive will, where God allows any foreign power to act, yet out of love may turn the situation to get you to do what he might have asked you to do. I said, he may, yet in some cases if you stay stubborn, you would end up being destroyed in your disobedience. This was the experience of King Saul.

Always act like these two disciples of John. You may also consider Abraham. When the Lord asked him to leave his people, nation and go to a land he knew nothing about, he quickly obeyed. Abraham’s obedience has resulted in present day blessing of the nation Israel. God is perfect and every instruction is made in love, for your ultimate good. Be prompt in your, obedience to His instructions.

NO COMPETITION

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:37 KJV “And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus”.

When John declared that Jesus was the lamb of God, his two disciples left him to follow Jesus. John did not complain about it. John came to prepare the hearts of men to receive and follow Jesus. He had a following since He became their inspirer. His ministry got to its end at the commencement of Jesus ministry. It is the nature of certain individuals to keep holding on to what they know they must give away. John was focused on what God had asked him to do.

The cause of  competition  mainly come from the ego of people.

Well, there is always a healthy competition that improves on performance and gives those at the receiving end something good to have.

As Christians we have one goal, and that is to glorify Jesus. Ephesians 4:3-7 says it all. We have one spirit, one Lord and one father. We seek to win the lost for the master. There should not be any bad blood generating among pastors because one has a large church and the other has only a small one. Any pastor who feels bad because he has a small congregation compared to another ministry which has a larger number is a baby and an immature Christian. He has allowed his wrong desires to control him. There are even some who would go about saying all kinds of bad remarks about their fellow pastors. Dear man of God, we have one enemy, the devil. We can effectively deal with him, if we are united. Rejoice over the success of your brother and do your best to fulfill God’s mandate on your life.

Please what is success in ministry? Success in ministry is primarily doing what God asked you to do ,to the best of your ability.

The Bible said, the disciples went and preached and God added to the church daily such as should be saved. We do the work of going out to preach or speak to people, God adds to the church. (Acts 2:46, 47).  Our part is to work, God’s part is to bring the increase.

There are many who have not given their best and so their results are not satisfying. If that is your state, you have the opportunity to give in your best. What you must avoid is to seek for your personal glory. One day we will all stand before the judgement seat of our master. We would be rewarded for whatever we did in this body. Your motives will be laid bare. May your motive be as the following :Act 24:16 KJV” And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”

JESUS, THE BAPTIZER WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 1:33 KJV “And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.”

John explained that he baptizes with water, but Jesus is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. The bible translators used the preposition ‘with’ which relates more with the means by which the act is done. Baptism, as we know is transliterated from Greek. That means, the word was taken from the Greek, and brought into English, without much changes. The word is baptizo which means to be immersed in, dipped in or buried in something. The Greek word which was translated as ‘with’ is the word ‘en’, which is a preposition denoting a fixed position in a place. The word ‘with’ used should not create any wrong picture in our minds.

With the above understanding, just as one is immersed or baptised into water, to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, means one is dipped, body, soul and spirit, into the Holy Ghost. It is an experience where one is fully overwhelmed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the power house of the Godhead. To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is to be filled with power or dynamic ability of God. Acts 1:8 says, “and you shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you…”. This is a power to be a witness for Jesus. The word witness is translated from the Greek word ‘Martus ‘ out of which we have the word martyr. A martyr is one who proves his faith, even unto death. The witness testifies about the reality of Jesus and by his faith is ready to prove it in signs and wonder. Mark 16:20 KJV “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.” Amen.

A number of Christians associate the baptism in the Holy Spirit only to speaking in tongues. Well, it is a truth of scripture that when one is baptised in the Holy Spirit, he would speak in tongues (Acts 2: 4, Acts 8:17,18, Acts 10 :44-46, Acts 19″6). These passages allude to the fact that, all those who were baptised in the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues, yet according to Acts 1:8, the real essence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, is to be enveloped in power for service. This power will heal your body, if you are sick (Rom8:11) You will be able to bring healing to others who are also suffering. The means of stirring this power, is to pray a lot in tongues (1 Corinth 14:4. If you have not been baptised in the Holy Spirit, you can be baptised now. The Lord stands by you to bless you with this great gift. You may pray this way, “Jesus you are the Lord of my life, you are the baptizer in the Holy Spirit. My heart is ready, and my mind is also ready, Lord baptize me in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Amen. Receive now the baptism into the Holy Spirit.
