THE PRIVILEGE OF SONS

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:35 KJV” And the servant abideth not in the house forever: but the Son abideth ever”.

In the verse of scripture before today’s key scripture, the Lord Jesus talked about the state of those who act against God’s word. He said the man who keeps sinning is a servant of sin. In our key scripture, the Lord explained that servants do not have a lasting habitation in the father’s house, or they do not have any inheritance in the father’s estate.

Who is a servant in this context? Servants are hirelings who are brought into a man’s house to serve. This cannot be said of sons. Sons are heirs to the wealth of the father. Sons come from the loins of the Father and so their allegiance is to their father. The son as an heir, has no spirit of bondage, Gal 4:6 KJV” And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”

Sonship is liberty, sonship is having authority, and sonship means doing that which honours the Father.

Now. Let’s consider the state of servants. The Lord said they are servants of sin. They do not have any authority because they do not have any allegiance to the Father. Member the centurion in Matt 8:9 who said,” I am a man under authority and say to my servant go, and he goes and to another come and he comes….”. He meant, that because I am under the authority of Rome, I have the backing of the Roman empire to exercise that authority against anyone and anything.

The man who is not yielded to serving righteousness but to serve himself and sin is left to the mercy of the evil powers of this world.

Dear brother and sister, the Lord says, if you serve sin then you are not part of his house or His kingdom. It is a miserable thing to be under the service of sin.

The Lord Jesus said the servant of sin cannot be in the house forever.

Dear one, you may be among Christians yet, you keep living in sin, then be reminded that a time is coming that you can no longer be among Christians or the church. The Lord said you would not live in the house forever. This would happen at the final judgement when you would be cast into hell.

The truth is, you can establish your place in the house today.

You can become a son. How can that be possible? Repent from the sins and surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus today. DO not be deceived. Jesus meant what He said. Stop serving sin from today so you do not find yourself outside the house.

CONFESSION

I am a son and abide in the house of God forever, because, the spirit of sonship rules in me, making me align with the ways and desires of my Father. I live under His authority and therefore I exercise His authority in my world. I have no fear of the devil for he is under my authority.

So then, as a result, we will also live always with God, who is so great and so good.”

WHOSE SERVANT ARE YOU 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:34 KJV “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”

In today, s study, we take a further look at the above topic. Our key scripture presents sin as a master that men do serve.

Indeed, sin is a person, a spiritual entity that exercises rule over men. Sin is not just an act.

When Cain, got envious of his younger brother Abel God came and explained what was expected of him, as well as the person behind his actions. Gen 4:7 KJV” If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” The Lord stated clearly that sin is a person, and seeks his desires over men.

Every act of sin is spiritual adultery, between a man and the personality called sin.

This union defiles man, and also rebels against God.1st John 1:9.

Man was created to be a habitation of God, a means for God to express himself to His creation and to exercise His authority over His creation. Man serves God, by yielding Himself to Him. At creation when God blessed man to be fruitful and rule over the earth, it was God’s presence in Him that was to exercise that power and authority over creation.

Sin deprived God of His place in man, making man a servant to sin.

The Lord Jesus’ mission on the earth was to restore and rescue men from the grips of sin. Men are God’s love creations. The sin of men breaks the heart of God, and makes a man a slave of the one who hates God, so much. Serving sin ,is the worse thing to happen to a man. It brings man so low to be a slave to any thing at all

SERVING GOD IN RIGHTEOUSNESS KEEPS MAN AS KING OVER CREATION.

What is God’s provision for breaking sin’s power over man? Jesus on the cross bore our sins, and also became sin. (John 1:29, 1st Corinth 5:21). His death was the slaying of the personality, sin. Rom 6:6 KJV” Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” This is what the Bible calls the circumcision of the old man Colossians 2:11,12. We are in Christ, and so we died with Him Gal 2:20. The bible says we must reckon that we are indeed dead to sin, and actually yield our members unto righteous . In Christ, we have become the very righteousness of God. The nature of sin no longer reigns over us. Do not allow it to control you.

To stay free from sin, declare always that you are the righteousness of God in Christ, and sin has no place in you. Keep saying it even, if you seem to be struggling with any sin. James 3:2

CONFESSION

My Lord Jesus, died to bear my sins and to take away the body of sin. I died with Him, and so free from that power called sin. I am the very righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and never a servant to sin.

WHOSE SERVANT, ARE YOU?

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:34 KJV “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”

In our previous study, we saw the Jews, claiming they were not under bondage, since they were seeds of Abraham. The Lord responded with a clear authoritative statement. His answer was”, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” This answer meant

1.  One’s status before God, has nothing to do with his or her biological lineage, association, position, or what people think of you.

2. Your state before God depends on your own actions.

Rom 6:16 KJV” Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness?” The preceding scripture states that a man sins or works righteousness by submitting himself to obey that power or influence. Since you have submitted yourself to that influence, you become a servant to that power.

The Lord, by this statement, was telling the Jewish people not to deceive themselves. Judging from their actions, they were servants of sin.

Whose servant, are you? Your title does not exempt you from God’s wrath, your positioning before men cannot help you either. Matthew 7:21 KJV “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

Why do some Christians still live as servants to sin? There are a few reasons that we may consider, why this is so

1 Such people have not made a sincere decision to make Jesus Lord of their lives.

The consequences of this are that they are still in their sins. Such are those that the Lord will say, ye workers of iniquity, I never knew you.

2. There is a second group who are doubtful about the reality of the bible and God.

They serve God with an uncertain mind. Such people are hot today and down in sin tomorrow.

3. There are those who are certain about the reality of the bible, yet do not have a clear understanding about their victory over sin.

If you find yourself in such a condition then please get to my website and read all the related topics on victory over sin, and you would be free to live in honour unto God.

Dearly beloved, it is rather dangerous to live as a slave to sin. It gives you no chance in the presence of the Lord.  Repent today and decide to serve the Lord in sincerity.

CONFESSION

I have been set free from the power of sin. I fully understand my power over sin, and so I live to please the Lord. I am no longer under the law, but grace and have become the very righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus. Glory be to the Lord.

THE IGNORANCE OF MEN

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:33 KJV” They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?”

In John 8:32, the Lord Jesus explained that those who continue in His word will know the truth, which would make them free. These Jews quickly responded that they were descendants of Abraham, were never in bondage, and needed to be free. These people were only expressing the great ignorance that was in them. It was their ignorance that kept them in the bondage of Satan. These Jews saw Jesus as a threat to their Jewish religion and were poised to kill Him. They were ready to arrest a woman found in adultery, leaving the man, to stone her to death.  Jesus came to save them yet they hated Him, to the point of seeking to kill Him.

Many oppose Jesus today because they are ignorant about who He really is.

If a man has no peace in his heart, yet opposes the Prince of Peace, then he is indeed very ignorant. Dear one our Lord Jesus is alive and real. His love for you remains constant. He is never moved by any man’s hostilities towards Him. He is moved by His love for you. This made Him lay down His life for you. All you need to do is to humble yourself, repent of your rebelling and surrender to Jesus.

About three months ago Riaan Swiegelaar who is the Co-founder of the church of Satan in South Africa, who used to be a very strong opposer of Jesus Christ, was converted to Christ. He did all this because of ignorance.

The Lord Jesus appeared to Him and showed Him an uncommon love. Riaan has repented, bowed to the Lordship Jesus and forsaken the satanic worship. Like Riaan, you are opposing Him because of your ignorance. Let his story challenge you to forsake your rebellion and surrender to Jesus.

CONFESSION

Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for your uncommon love for me. I have lived in ignorance, and ask of your forgiveness. I repent of my rebellion and surrender my life to you. I declare that Jesus is the Lord of my life.

THE TRUTH MAKES YOU FREE

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:32 KJV” And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

A woman was divorced from her husband which resulted in her becoming so depressed.  Another was divorced and she lived as if nothing had happened.  A child was asked to sweep a portion of land, and ended up complaining throughout the whole exercise. Another was asked to sweep the same piece of floor, and he joyfully sang throughout the period of sweeping. Which of these people had a problem?

A problem is not necessarily what happens, but how, one allows a condition to break him down. Rom 12:21 KJV “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good”. Why did they tend to break down in the challenging moments? They could not apply the word to overcome whatever came at them. The word of God is the perfect law of liberty that will put you over any situation if you would dare to trust in God, and to apply it.

God’s word is truth and it is to make us free from whatever comes against us.2 Timothy 3:17 says the scriptures are given to us, to make the man of God, or child of God perfect, thoroughly furnished unto every good work. As truth it furnishes you or supplies you with everything you need to handle every condition in this life. The man, who is feeling defeated, has chosen not to apply the word of God to his or her particular situation.

If he is to do so, He would surely stand out free.

If you are angry and complaining about a second person causing all your unhappiness, then you have failed to apply the word. If you are filled with fear of any kind, if you are worried about anything, or any form of the condition, then you are failing to apply the word that makes one free. Prov 24:10 KJV” If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”

The word says cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). It says count it all joy when you fall into divers’ kinds of temptations (Janes 1:3). If you have a demonic attack, the word says, at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God (Philipp 2:11). The word has a solution for every challenge.1Jn 5:4 KJV” For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”.

Your faith is the universal defensive weapon, that quenches every onslaught of the devil. Eph 6:16

Faith always comes by hearing the word. Give attention to the word.

It does not matter, how severe a challenge may be, refuse to be put down by it. The word sets free, act on it.

CONFESSION

The word of God is God’s key to every door of life, it is light for every darkness and medicine for every disease. With the word, I am guaranteed an ultimate moment of victory in Jesus’ name.

Isaiah 55:11 KJV ” So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

KNOWING THE TRUTH

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:32 KJV” And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

In our previous study, the Lord Jesus said His disciples are those who stay in the word. Today’s scripture concludes the previous one by saying; that those who continue in the word, get to know the truth, and it is in the knowledge of the truth that frees them. Hearing information may not help you enough until you know it.

Knowledge is a product of fellowship.

We may hear about certain individuals, yet we may only know them by fellowshipping with them.

 Fellowship demands attention and commitment.

Lazy people cannot enjoy the freedom that the word brings. The word ‘study’ used in 2 Timothy 2:15 is a Greek word called ‘spoudazo’, and it means to be ‘diligent’. The man who studies, or is diligent in the word, approves of himself before God, because he is able to rightly divide the word of truth.

Please note that rightly dividing the word of truth is not limited to teaching and preaching alone, but also rightly acting appropriately in line with the truth.

This is godly wisdom, that liberates you from various entanglements of life. Now, the power of Satan is deception, which is symbolised by darkness.

You are in darkness about anything that you are ignorant about.

Truth is light and therefore dissipates all darkness with ease. Most of the men’s undoing is their ignorance.

The moment truth comes, it means light floods that darkness, which must quickly vanish without any contest.

There are a whole lot of struggles that many go through which would have ceased if they had known the truth.

In these days, there is so much information that most children of God are privy to, yet the level of impact of most Christians is still low. Why is this so?

It is not the volumes of truth that one fills himself with that saves him, but the one that he is ready to accept or believe in.

Hebrews 4:2 KJV” For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. “

From the preceding verse, it is not just what you know that saves, but the truth you believe in.

In the light of what Jesus said, the truth you believe in, is the truth you know, and it is that truth, that makes you free.

Until you believe the truth, you do not know it.

CONFESSION

Thank you, Lord, for your word. I continue in the word, and believe whatever it says. Your truth floods my soul, and I am made whole. There is no darkness in me, for I totally accept whatever the word says

THOUGHT:  YOU DO NOT KNOW A TRUTH, UNTIL YOU BELIEVE IT

CONTINUE IN THE WORD

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:31 KJV” Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;”

One big sign of maturity is consistency. No one succeeds without it. From our key scripture, The Lord was revealing a very important virtue for success. He added that those who continue in the word are indeed His disciples. The Lord by this statement is saying, that, consistency is the hallmark of His nature. He is not an inconsistent individual, who starts a thing today and abandons it tomorrow. He takes His task to the end. John 4:34 KJV” Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work”. Finishing anything demands focus and diligence.

 Focus and diligence develop perfection.

Those who stay in the word grow, and so they take strong meat. This helps them to exercise their spiritual senses to discern right from wrong Heb 5:14

From our key scripture, the Lord is saying, if a man stays constantly focused on the word of God, then he is indeed His disciple. The word of God is the wisdom and power of God expressed in words. The word of God sanctifies from the contaminations of the devil. The word is spirit and life. The word will make you whatever it talks about, if only you stay true to it.

When a man sticks to the word he would become like Jesus.

Disciples are to become like their teachers. The Lord is saying you would surely become like Him if you stay or remain in the word.

Continuing in the word also means doing what the word says. James 1:25 KJV” But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”. One of the challenges of most church folks is forgetting what was preached in church. The Lord taught in Mark 4 that Satan steals the word from the hearts of most children of God. This happens because they do not focus or keep reading over what they have heard. Satan can only steal from Christians who are not diligent with what they heard. We are living in a time when we have easy means of recording whatever was preached in church. Do not allow devils to rob you off something as precious as the word of God.

CONFESSION

I am given to staying with the word of God. The word s light, it is a perfect law of liberty, that is, it brings freedom from every darkness Satan casts on the people of God. By staying in the word, I am liberated, and blessed in whatever I do.

PLEASING THE FATHER

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:29 KJV “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.”

God the mighty creator of the world is everywhere at all times. This means He is with everybody at all times, yet He is not able to help certain persons.

It is not His will not to help such people, but those people cannot receive His help, by virtue of their disposition. (An example is Adam who would hide from God because of his disobedience).

When a man does not live to please God, he may not partake of the mercies and goodness of God.

The Lord revealed in our key scripture that, the Father never leaves Him. He says, He always does that which pleases the Father. In this case, the Father gives Him every help or assistance He needs. Acts 10:38 tells us about how Jesus went about healing multitudes because the Father was with Him.

I define favour as God being with you.

Gen 39:2 KJV “And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.” The presence of the Father with Joseph made Him prosper in all he did. This is all that favour is about, when God influences all that happens to you.

I believe this is the experience everyone would want to have. The prize for having this kind of favourable life is to live to please the Lord.

Pleasing the Lord in simple terms is to place God’s interest first.

Jesus said, seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you Matt 6:33. The kingdom of God, although in a broad sense comprises of heaven, where God dwells and God’s reign over the hearts of men. Seeking the kingdom is permitting the rule or will of God to be done in your life. The Bible says if you do this, then every other blessing, both carnal and divine would be released on you. This is where most Christians miss it. They want the blessings of God but do not want the reign of God over their lives.

You can’t kill the hen that lays the golden eggs and have the golden eggs too.

If you want to receive God’s presence that eases life around you, then always put God first.

There is one thing that attracts so much approval from God, and that is to be committed to winning souls. He that wins souls, is wise. Make sure your number one purpose in life is to win the lost. This is the reason Jesus came into this life, and it is the one thing God would be very pleased with, if you commit your life to do.

CONFESSION

I am committed to pleasing the Father in all I do. His will comes first in my life. My number one desire is to save the lost for His kingdom. He is always with me, showing me mercy, favour and every other glorious blessing. Hallelujah!

ABSOLUTE HUMILITY 2

KEY SCRIPTURE: John  8:28 KJV” Then said Jesus unto them, when ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things”.

We learnt from our previous study that our Lord Jesus was absolutely dedicated to the Father in perfect humility. Humility led Him to experience the most humiliating moment of His life on earth, yet, it sent Him to the highest height of glory. The bible said because of what He did, God likewise has given him a name which is above every name. Philipp 2:11.

What is in humility that endears so much of God’s approval and exaltation of the humble man.? Humility is a practical way of declaring that God is God and that, you are totally surrendered and submitted to Him.

Humility is also a form of giving worship unto God. Worship has the idea in Hebrew, to bow down or to prostrate before the Father Ps 95:6. This is what attracts the Lord God to arise to show His approval for such person.

Pride is not just an isolated action of an individual, or something that is remote from God, but a direct rebellion against the very throne of God. God opposes the proud with the greatest fury and an outright dislike

All men, whether religious or not are dependant on God, and therefore are accountable to Him.

It is only to your advantage to be humble and receive God’s full approval and blessings. The question about who is fitting to be used of God is rooted in whether the person is truly humble or not.

GOD, USES ONLY HUMBLE VESSELS In God’s eyes the humble man is the one who trembles at the word of God. Humility as a way of submission to God also shows dependence on God. Humility gives faith in God the grounds or right to stay in the heart of an individual. Faith is a decision of an individual to accept or yield to the word. That act of yielding to God is humility.

Humility is simply one’s positive disposition towards God.

Humility has nothing to do with whether a person is an introvert or an extrovert. It is all about how prepared one is ready to yield to God, irrespective of the cost, danger or rewards. God also cherishes dearly a man with a humble heart. He will always lift such a person into significance or make special provisions for him.

A humble attitude toward men is always a result of true humility towards God. A man who is not humble towards God cannot be humble towards his fellow men.

Thank you, father, for the Holy Spirit. Fill my heart with a great sense of submission and fear for thee, Help me to act always with one motive that is to please you alone

ABSOLUTE HUMILITY

KEY SCRIPTURE: John 8:28 KJV” Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.”

From our key scripture, the Lord reveals that the people would know who He is when He would be lifted up, that is when He is crucified. He reveals that He would be glorified through His humiliation. He added that at that time they would know that He never did anything by Himself, but did everything on the instruction of the Father. He expressed total submission or humility unto the Father. Philip 2:5-11 admonishes us to let the mind of Jesus be in us. He demonstrated total humility, and God also has highly exalted Him, above every name, condition or situation. God gives grace to the humble, yet, He resists the proud James 4:6.

Pride is a very serious act, because, it rebels against the very throne of God, yet many Christians walk in pride.

Why is this so? Before we answer that question, let’s look at some symptoms of pride.

1. Envy against the success of anybody is a symptom of pride.

2. Entertaining the desire for praise because of some achievement you have made in Christ is a symptom of pride. Example healings and miracles done through you.

3. When offended because somebody ‘lower’ spoke to you roughly. Is also a sign one is proud.

4. When you would not forgive a wrong done you.

5. Every offence that you take personal instead of getting offended for God, for an act against God, is a symptom of pride.

6. Those who always speak with the phrase, ‘as for me’ are all symptoms of pride.

7. Those who compare themselves with others, is a symptom of pride.

There are many more yet space would not permit me.  The simple yard stick to identify pride is any act that makes you the centre of importance are all motivated by pride. Jesus should always have the pre-eminence.

To answer the question why is there so much pride? The answer is, many sons of God, do not acknowledge the death of their flesh. You should be able to say with Paul and really mean it, that you are crucified with Christ, and it is no longer you who is living but Christ who is alive. YOU DO NOT MATTER ANY LONGER.

When I say you do not matter, I mean your true identity is Jesus. He is the one who takes all the glory. He also bears the reproaches that come against you Rom 15:3. No more any sense of shame or personal glory. It is the glory of Christ who is in you. You are now free of any personal offence. Philip 1:20. Apostle Paul says according to his Earnest expectation and hope that in nothing he would be ashamed; why, because Jesus must be magnified in him. Our humility must be absolute.

CONFESSION

I am crucified with Christ, and it is Christ who presently lives in me. I am not ashamed about anything, neither do I take glory for anything, it is Jesus in me who takes all the glory and also bears the reproaches, glory be to His name.
